I starting watching Marty before a single grey hair in the beard. He sure has come a long way.
me too man. right on
Same here mate
Same here dude... Marty is a great teacher no matter what level your playing is. Imo.
Marty rocks 🤘
That’s what I’m sayin, dude literally taught me how to play the guitar many years ago. I thought I lost him for a while and then he randomly popped back into my shorts and now here I am
Same! So happy I did.
Killing in the name of is a happy accident.... Tom Morello just randomly played that riff when he was showing someone Drop D tuning one day and he stopped and he's like wow what was that i just played... then he went back and played it again and memorized it and that's what became the main riff =P
Damn didnt know the riff origin story thank you so much!
@@luisoliveira5946 Yeah it is a really cool story... he was doing a lesson at the time and the legend goes Tom actually paused the lesson he was teaching so he could go and record it. Then he showed it to the other band members the very next day and they immediately started working on the song. pretty kickass =P
Wish we were all so lucky
Writing memorable riffs is an art form in itself
This one has such a great feel and groove
That’s… how all music is made… no?
I fucking hate Tom Morello
Marty should honestly go in the Rock and Roll hall of fame for teaching a generation to play.
🤘
Definitely he’s a pioneer him theartofguitar, and YourGuitarSage
Ehh, his reviews are very basic and barebones compared to some others like 365. Still think he does a good job at making it easy for beginners tho
*Laughs in Justin Guitar*
Probably the first alternate tuning we all played in. Very cool
Hell yeah, Cant Find My Way Home on my crappy beginner fender acoustic
I'm AiC fan, so the first alternate tuning I played in was Eb standard
Very true. Definitely was for me!
Mine was C#
Mine was either Drop C or Double Drop D.
It's such a bloody good riff, I wish it was played more in the song.
Learning to play Guitar with Marty be like:
And then you do what he told ya.
I giggled. Thanks
🏆 😂
Everlong will always be my favorite drop D riff
The one exception to “Killing In The Name”’s outro is to do what Marty says so you can learn this badass riff.
The first RATM album is so great to play along to; everything is so well mixed and you can really hear what everyone’s doing
It’s in my top 10
As soon as I saw the title I knew what riff it was gonna be, I could be playing that riff for hours and it'd still feel as awesome as it is!
That tone is lethal
Rage Against the Marty
Watching him with his grey beard make me realize that im old right now, first time watching him around 2010/2011 stay healthy and keep productive sir 🤟🏻
yes this happens. my children are teenagers now
Definitely one of my favorite riffs to play in Drop D as well.
Drop D wasn't low enough so I tried Drop C and loved it. So Naturally I play in Drop B tuning now
I don’t remember which but there’s a ratm song in drop A
That Guitar Tone 🥺😍
Just learned the song in full- Such a fun track to play.
Majority of their songs are in this damn scale. Learned the whole first album by ear when I was a kid. Fun to play.
Super simple but very satisfying riff to play!
This riff opened up an entire world of guitar playing for me when i was starting out, and it was Marty fukin Schwartz who taught it to me over a decade ago. Marty was the absolute best influence on my guitar playing especially when it came to making me feel like this was all possible🙏 i hope i can thank him in person some day. Keep jamming brothers and sisters
Marty be killing it 🔥
One of the best rock songs I know, the breakdown is also pretty sick and unique.
Hey Marty, thanks for the quick drop D riff. Appreciated!
After watching this, I'm convinced all tabs should be narrated from now.
Yes!!!!!! The only drop D riff you need!!! It’s bloody ace!
Such a beast of a tune. It would be so cool to see RATM ramp it back up again with a new album and have a voice on our basic freedom being taken away in front of our eyes.
Absolutely my fav drop D song ever, one of the few true masterpieces,
Ten Years Gone!
I was following & so confused until you played it fast, then I got it straight away ❤️ awesome work dude
🎵 Some of those who work forces are the same that burn crosses 🎵
And now we do what he told us
Marty is an inspiration for real, almost all the guitarists I know remember learning at least one song from this man as beginners 🤝😭❤️
Marty is such a good teacher. You can just watch this short and bam, done, you know the riff. Love this guy.
You rock brotha! I have been picking up acoustic gtr again because of you! I go through phases where I'm uninspired but when I watch your videos I always learn something new. Just learned can't find my way home which also uses the drop d!
Now you do what he tells ya!!!
Marty is so freaking good! The best!
Never realized how much can be made out of this one progression
Hey Marty, not sure if you're ever going to read this, but I watched your tutorial videos way back in high school and they played a huge role in my early development as a guitarist. Glad to see you're still making content all these years later. Keep up the good work!
I like how Marty really grooves and feels what he’s playing ! Especially when he does stank face ! Awesome ! 👍
Marty these shorts are 🔥, so good 👌
You are awesome!!
Been watching you for the last 10 years, always solid easy to follow lessons and tips.
Live you Marty.
Marty music ROCKS!
Man, I got all your DVDs, I'm about to watch them and learn how to play guitar once and for all!
One of my all time favorite bass riffs as well
Gotta love that color on a strat
Glad to see marty after all these years wow time has changed
Knew from the first strum of the E string, no clue how
I know he’s looking at the screen he’s recording on but it really looks like he’s watching you play with him
One of my favs too!
I used to watch Marty every day for 2 years in middle school and quit playing in high school I’ve maybe touched my guitar once or twice in the last few years ima dust it off in the morning to play this haha why not
I love these quick and easy guides Marty. KEEP IT GOING!
You're the man, I have watched and learned from you for years.
Thank you.....keep it coming.
Merry Christmas
Your guitar student Jerry
Love this song Marty rocks
Right on! Marty
Thanks again
Always good stuff Marty
Love this dude has taught me so much in only 1 year
Killing in the name of. Love that song
Killin in the name of🤘🏻
I started playing when his third video came out. He really makes learning easy and comfortable thanks Marty.
Marty you’re the man ! great riff thx bro
Marty is awesome
More like this, please.
It’s Killing in the name of is one of the best songs ever made
Rage along side the machine. My favorite.
After the 4th fret, you can play the open string on the same string cause it's the same nite as going back to the 5th fret on the A string
Your a great teacher man!
Thanks again, Marty.
My guy went full beats mode
Thanks Marty !
Instead of hitting the a note on the low e you can just do a pull off on the A string itself and it sounds just as good!
Great job at disguising what song it was until the very end
Thanks Marty you rock❤❤❤
This is why i love marty he has fun teaching
When Marty hits that open low D power chord. Reminded me of the beginning to No sleep till Brooklyn by Beastie Boys. I know its R.A.T.M.
I thought I was getting Rick Rolled at first.
"With a pocket full of shells"
At first I thought Back in Black, then Paranoid, then I just got confused
Didn't see that coming. Thanks Marty!
Best riff i think
Some of those that worked forces, are the same that burn crosses
Hey Marty! Could you do an acoustic lesson of I me mine by the Beatles? Thanks Marty! Keep rockin’ 🤘
Is it bad that before he even played the full song he played one chores and knew it was killing in the name of
My favourite drop D is between this one and everlong
I love your videos, thank you so much
Just an all around fun af song to play on guitar🤘
Marty u have helped me so much after my gutair lesson I come and learnt something thanks
I saw them in 94', at Cal State Dominguez Hills.......(at 14 years old)
That was the WILDEST MOST BADASS concert I've seen, to date!!!!
Marty, you’re a legend bro. My first ever guitar teacher from years ago (mainly watching at work lol) and I’ve learnt so much from you. Thank you x a billion bro!🎸🔥🤙🏻
This was the first song i learnt in drop D tuning but not on guitar, but on bass.
Marty is the best 🎸🎸🇺🇸
Sounds awesome being played that way. I always did a half-step bend on the 3rd fret, d string and did a pull off before striking the barred notes
That's my favorite riff as well!
My favorite christmas carol
Love you Marty
I love this guy. He's so likeable. I don't even need to jam with him. Just wanna sit down and have a cup of coffee with him.
This is the kind of thing that was missing when I first started playing. If I coulda rocked out on some Rage I wouldn’t have given up the first time. Started up again a few years later and started to really love it. The basics are absolutely necessary but it’s much more fun to break up that boredom with something cool
Damn you're getting old. Glad to see your still teaching the world how to shred and feel cool 🤗
Instaly know it was killing in the name of
This was simply wicked! 🤘🏽
