    For a beginner who doesn't get a lot of time to play guitar, is open G tuning an easier way to be able to pick the guitar up on the odd occassion and just play? The main chords seem simple enough but can you solo in it? Sorry for the dumb question, but i am a beginner!

    Why do you use the dobro tuning of G instead of the open G tuning Keef uses? Just curious. thanks

    • @joeyselder5693

      @@ericwikman4131 so it just makes a subtle difference? Or is it easier to make chord shapes with?

    • @tylercharlton9404
      @tylercharlton9404 Před 3 lety

      Most of the classic blues tunes from people like Son House, Muddy waters, Robert Johnson all up to the later players like Johnny Winters used DGDGBD for the roots blues sound. I think maybe the other tuning maybe used for country style stuff? Either way I couldn't tell you just trying to shed some light

    d string

  • @peteralexanderharrison9309

    You do realize that the fingering of minor chords in open G tuning are ridiculous to play.

    • @NarwhalNuke
      @NarwhalNuke Před 4 lety +2

      theyre really not that bad, just takes practice like anything else

    • @raidzeromatt
      @raidzeromatt Před 3 lety

      Not really.. the fingering is easier than a diminished chord and strumming is easier than a lot of classical music
      Just strum downward from the 5th string while you mute the last string with your right ring finger

    • @davegeetarwrist5597
      @davegeetarwrist5597 Před 3 lety

      ...Just need to be accurate,..even more difficult if you want to drop a minor chord in when you're playing with a slide...eg chord sequence C Am F G..but with practise you can do it,..play a full Cmajor on 5th fret(you can include 6th string as this is a G in open G tuning)..easier with your slide on little finger...lift off and dampen with your right palm and finger the Am chord in the first position,taking care not to sound the 1st,5th and 6th strings,OR slide down and arpeggiate the strings using little movements between 1st fret second string,and 2nd fret third and fourth strings....take your time,and it WILL get better!........Hope this helps everybody!

    • @TheBdylan23
      @TheBdylan23 Před 3 lety +1

  • @markcobb6561

    It's hardly the best open g tuning video. Must have had his friends comment.
    Used a bastardized tuning that's for beginners, not blues. Couldnt hold the strings down, and read his information from a screen.
    Im not watching on a phone. I see the soft little girl hands. No calluses at all. Not on the finger tips, not on the sides of the fingers.
    Want to know why you have that dull sound with your left hand? Thats no calluses also.
    How can this person teach anything when he doesnt practice what he preaches?
    Stick with what you know and leave the blues lessons to people that know how to play the blues
