  • It is not hard to set up your ALICE LBE gear. It merely requires some forethought and common sense. Think about how and when the gear will be used. Then think about how you will best reach it.

    I gave away most of my Alice issue years ago. I've been wanting to put together another, but using only GI (no "made in China") gear. I finally found an "almost new" training butt pack today for a very fair price. Two mag/grenade pouches and I'm good to go...

    If you can find H suspenders that were issued before those suspenders they carry and ride more comfterble

      Not for me. They inhibit full scapular range of motion

    It is hugely important to bear in mind that any sort of load-bearing belt setup is going to depend on your waistline. I'm a pretty thin bloke so I must keep my belt shorter than most and this does not afford me the luxury of having the standard four magazine pouches and two canteens. Instead I have to limit myself to two magazine pouches (never mind that one pouch has been substituted with an IFAK anyway!)
    This is a major reason that modern "war belts" are used to supplement your vest or plate carrier LBEs. Personally I subscribe to the belief that a belt should be what allows you to survive long enough to access the rest of your equipment, so only the absolute essentials should be carried on there. I include shelter and fire-starting equipment among these articles, especially for overnight hiking or long patrols away from ready resupply -- and nothing does this better than a standard rear pouch.
    The ALICE belt and harness system is still excellent equipment today despite being thoroughly displaced by more modern MOLLE equipment. It carries everything you need, it's easy to wear and adjust to your body type, and it is reliable under the most adverse conditions. In addition, a typical ALICE rig can be comfortably worn with older styles of body armour than weren't designed with MOLLE compatibility in mind. Perhaps because of this the Russian _Smersh_ counterpart to ALICE perseveres today, combining the adaptability of MOLLE with the ease of use of ALICE and proving that there is still a real place on modern battlefields for load bearing equipment separated from body armour.

    You can always attach the canteens to the buttpack and the Etool to the Buttpack to free up space. The type of Etool can vary due to location you are at. You have the M1943 Etool carried in the M1951 cover or the more modern Tri-Fold Etool in the rubber cover.

      @@doitriteak I used to be a very good customer of Sportsman's Guide when Gary Olen ran it. Since he's been gone I've noticed them being very disingenuous in a lot of their descriptions of surplus i.e. the term "Municipal Surplus" .. read that as "Made in China". Also be careful of the small print "GI type". I'm a dual Italian citizen and have caught them misrepresenting Italian "surplus" too .
      There's another place, sort of a "hobby" effort at a business. But their stock is REAL... "Just keep shooting . com" Especially if you like stuff from the UK. An online company out of Chicago "ArmyNavy Sales.com" seems to have a lot of genuine gear

    Are there any major advantages between Y and H pattern suspenders? I don’t know why they made two patterns for.

    • @doitriteak
      @doitriteak  Před 4 lety +6

      H came before Y. The Y is designed to allow full arm rotation and scapular range of motion. Comfort is found with the H but function is found with the Y

      Try increasing the points of contact. I use the brotish yoke for 12 points. I strap 550 cord between two points and lace the yoke straps through it. Also use the old school isomat and make a belt liner. This will stiffen your belt and help prevent hot spots
