MAN OVERBOARD! Dog Rescue on the Freezing Shropshire Union Canal! - Ep. 84
Vložit
- čas přidán 5. 07. 2024
- Our emergency procedure kicks in as we lose a man overboard! Dillon jumps off the boat, so a dog rescue on the freezing Shropshire Union Canal is needed as we explore Britain by Narrowboat. We leave our mooring just south of Market Drayton and tackle the Tyrley Locks, which come with a fierce warning from other boaters. We check out the history of Tyrley and links with the chocolate maker, Cadbury. We pass through the longest canal cutting on the network, Woodseaves Cutting, with its high bridges before emerging at Knighton Foods factory, where Colin rediscovers the chocolate-making history. After passing Shebdon Embankment and wharf we moor up for the night. The next morning we make our way through Grub Street Cutting and check out the haunted bridge 39 with its random telegraph pole before completing our journey at Norbury Junction.

I get to see England thru you folks. Thank you my friends for the beautiful video. AGAIN!
Our pleasure! 👍🏻
I agree with you, Colin and Shaun, show us how beautiful Britain really is, in 5 months I will be back in the UK for a short visit to my homeland.
@@240aking Thanks, Andy!
Dillon looks like a truck with a bent frame when you show him walking down the towpath. back end off to the side of the front. LOL cracks me up everytime
Yeah, his old bones aren’t straight
Thanks for the info. I was wondering why he was cantering like a show horse. It does not stop him from being a good swimmer 😄
I love how Dillon runs on the grass beside the boat! He looks like he has a smile upon his face.....I believe he still does that now in spirit!!!!
I miss him every single day 💜☹️
1:15 Speaking of tinnitus, apparently the government set up a hotline for sufferers. I called it up but it just kept ringing! 🤗 Love the channel guys.
Back of the classroom! 😂
You're a very sporty crew, Colin the run, Shaun the hammer throw, and Dillon the swim, lol, still a great time I spent in your company with great views, thanks
Haha! 😂
Vlogs getting better all the time ..n1 guys
Cheers!
Watched this for the fortyteenth time and still get a bad case of the giggles when Dillon goes for a dip. And the way his tail was connected to his legs so that as he ran his tail went side to side. Will always be missed for the way he stared at the camera, his tail, and his cheerfulness.
He stared into your soul. I miss him every single day 💜
Hello my fellow Foxes. What a stunning vlog. That sunset is beyond words beautiful. Thank you for sharing your journeys
Our pleasure, Mary! x
We were told that the lock beams were originally painted that colour because they acquired loads of tins of battleship gray paint after the war. It then continued from there.
Wow!
Jerry Rathgeb we saw a boat covered with camouflage netting, I think it was at Abingdon.
It's so enjoyable to catch up with the Foxes Afloat crew by binge watching recent vlogs. My heart melts for poor Dillon who thought he had to get off the boat to find Colin - even jumping in the freezing water to look for his daddy! What a lovable, loyal companion your Dillon is.
He hates it when I'm off the boat 😂💜
Your videos are always so gorgeous, especially with the drone shots. Glad the 'puppy' suffered no ill effects of his unplanned swim in the canal.
Thanks! Yeah, he's fine 💜
My wife and I just love you both and your vlogs. I was in the hospital last month for heart surgery. During my time in recovery, I discovered Foxes Afloat, and have had a lot of enjoyment from your wonderful vlogs. I just wanted to thank you both for the fun and being real about life and mental health issues. We feel like we have invited you into our home. Again thank you so much. Rick&Teresa
Hi guys 👋🏻
Thank you so much. I’m sorry to hear about your surgery but hope you’re fit now and improving. X
Dillon had a great life with you guys on the boat... ❤💙
He is very much missed xx
Sunrise drone shot starting at 14:07 was perfect! Great work there.
Thanks, James 👍🏻
I can not be the only one that would just love to give these guys a hug and a hearty thanks for all the smiles that their videos bring. Keep it up!
Awww... Ta! 💜
Keep it up boys.. Dillon didn't seem to upset with his swim. The drone footage is first class. Nice to see the sun out this time of year. Keep safe and warm. Tez WA
The lighting is amazing in the winter! Thanks Terry!
The quality of these vlogs is outstanding. I get dizzy watching some with all the jump edits. You really put out a nice and easy to watch show. Thanks.
It has to reflect the style of travel, hence the easy to watch style. We do a few time lapses, but only to show short bursts of nondescript stretches. Thanks for the appreciation, Michael. It means a lot 👍🏻💜
Dillon is a good swimmer and very cute doing it! just love you guys! I am so drawn to the scenery, so peaceful. Love to watch your journeys!
Aww, thank you! 👍🏻💜
It's 2 am here -- and now I want some chocolate, thanks! Great video - as always so professional. Colin, for someone who isn't sure they like being around people, you are great to be around!! You both are.
Haha! I'm fine when it's just me and a camera 😉
Stealing a line from Smokey Robinson . . . I second that emotion. Kind words Kate ;)
@@michaelhiggins7365 Thanks, Michael 💜
I love the random fact all through out these vlogs
Thanks, Jessa! 😛
great vlog boys thank you gets me out of the house watching you two if you know what I mean 😂😂😂❤️
Haha! Yeah, kinda 👍🏻
Colin, you're one of the great historians of our times. Bringing the past simply yet clearly to us great unwashed masses. Seriously, thank you.
Always a pleasure!
Blimey! full show tonight chaps! Telegram Sam bridge, Chocolate churns, Boy racers on't canal and Dillion doing a half pike & twist into the watery depths. Enjoyed every minute.
Cheers. What an epic! 😂
Another beautiful vlog. Loved that sunset, truly sensational. You pick beautiful music Colin and it must take ages to find all those, you truly put a lot of effort into it as you did giving Dillon a warm bath. Silly bugger, he doesn't like water and yet he goes for a swim. Perhaps he gets hypnotised by the water as he stares at it.
He slips off the edge sometimes. Serves himself right for laying down with his legs over the edge 😂
Another great vlog and glad that you're Dylan is a good swimmer and no speeders where harmed in the making of your latest instalment 😍👍
Not this time, anyway 😉
Dillon Is fantastic, I love him.
Haha! Everybody loves Dillon 💜
Glad the pooch wasn’t in that water for too long. And he didn’t panic he just swam right back towards ya! A good sign he’s well loved! Liked the historical looks during this vid. Would love to see lots more history content, but I’m happy with all you lads do!
Yeah, he has a brilliant instinct to swim straight towards us. 👍🏻
Foxes Afloat he has good parents! Which I’m sure gives him plenty of motivation! He’s adorable by the way!
@@matthewdowd4686 We love him 💜❤️
You guys have really got drone photography off to a fine art. Great vlog as always!! Thanks.
Thanks, Derek! Much appreciated :)
Poor soggy Dillon! :-O
Brilliant video though, lovely scenery, and some nice information too! :-)
Ah, he knows the attention he'll get, which I reckon is why he does it 😂
@@FoxesAfloat He's a clever and lovable lad! :-)
Thanks Colin for a well researched presentation with superb photography. I am familiar with this area, having worked there 50 years ago and interested to learn a lot about its history associated with the canal. We locals have an expression ‘around the Wrekin’ when someone rambles on without getting to the point. It’s very like The Wrekin, that stands above the relatively low lying countryside and remains in view for ages, even after travelling several miles. Geologically it’s the result of volcanic rock (quartzite), that pushed up and cooked the Cambrian sandstone 570 million years ago to make it hard and resilient raising the ground to give the appearance of a volcano that now dominates the Shropshire county-side for miles around. As a child I often played on the tow-paths and banks of the canal at Gnosall (a little further on ‘down the cut’), I totally understand when you describe the atmosphere around Norbury as quiet and tranquil. I was aware of it myself, even at the age of 9yrs old and always considered it as ‘special’.
Amazing history, I love it!
Dillon is so loving and appreciative. No better friend to man and so deserving of all you give back to him.
He is! I'm dreading the day we lose him. He's ten now. Can't imagine being on the boat without him
@@FoxesAfloat I've lived through that a few times and still a parent to one. I absolutely understand.
Dillon is so cute. He has the most pleasant look about him,
He's gorgeous, Hilda! 💜
Thank you kind sirs for another exciting adventure. Some really beautiful scenery and nice drone shots. All the vlogs I watch now are able to take me places and show me things I will never get to see normally. Love your videos.
Aww, thanks, Steve!
Great photography as usual. I envy your gift. Dillon always looks like he expects to be in trouble. Such an expression on his face.
Haha! yes he does 😂
Oh, my two favorite UK lads have once again, made my day. Your precious smiling faces are so welcoming. You were so precious in your gentle ministrations to Dillon after his impetuous jump into the water. Greetings from California
Aww, thanks, Janet! Your way with words is amazing!
Great vlog as usual thanks guys, Hope Dillon has thawed out.
Yeah, thanks. He dried off within a week 😂
Awwww dillon ! He was such a beautiful dog. You must still miss him so much 🙁
Every single day 💜
Precious Dillon. I have fallen in love with this little guy and am already sadden because I know from seeing later videos first that he is no longer around just in memory. My heart is breaking just thinking about it. I can’t imagine how difficult and bitter sweet it must be seeing videos of him.
@@marilynkirby-roach187 Same here Marilyn. I'd first watched a later Vlog before starting from number 1. The guys must of been heartbroken. He had such a lovely character that comes across on screen.
For me, the most visually stunning vlog you have done so far. You really did pass through some stunning scenery and saw some amazing sunsets. Credit where its due you guys know your way around a camera.!
I noticed you met an irish named narrowboat at one point along the way too- the one with the greyhound picture on the side. Theres a couple of translations of the name depending on the interpretation of the spelling. It could either translate as "The gun" or "the covenant" if the letter u in the name is a plain old 'u' or 'ú'. Thats my useless fact of the day.!
My hoodie finally landed too,and its as good as advertised. Lovely material. Problem is, hers truly fancies it and has taken ownership. !! Thanks chaps.
Haha! No way! You'll have to buy another 😂
Great video again. Love the history lesson!
Cheers, Craig! 👍🏻
Your shot of dawn at 14.07 is just so beautiful. It really lifts the spirits; the promise of a brand new day.
It was a beautiful sunrise!
Well done guys excellent as always
Thanks, Ron!
only found you guys yesterday but my god your so positive and great to watch !
Thank you so much!! Also, welcome! 👍🏻💜
He walks with a crab, but at least he swims straight! Dillon is a star seeking a wetsuit. Nice of you to warm him up, with that appreciative look he gave you. Nice work!
Ah, he’s part of the crew. The pack looks out for each other 👍🏻
Another belter guys. Everything you do is impressive, love the drone footage and that "firesky" was one of the best, Hope poor Dillon has dried out. Love you all
Haha! Yeah, he takes ages to dry off 😂
Life for me in the past month has been traumatic, when we all go through these tough times we just crave for the return of normality. You 2 are just funny and raise peoples spirits but you're certainly far from normal 🤪🤪Thank you for your great performance and content 👍
Truly, like therapy!
Haha! I'd hate to be normal 😂 xx
Hi brill vlog I believe that the lock gates are painted gray because many years back British waterways was given a load of paint from the Royal Navy that they found left over from the war . That's why it's battle ship gray .
Ah, that explains it 👍🏻
Wow, beautiful. That long stretch with the high bridge is stunning. You should be incredibly proud of your filming and photography. Truly stunning. Thank you for sharing.
Aww, thank you! 💜
Dillion. 😍 He is absolutely adorable.
He really is 💜
Good doggy dad, washing Dillon off with warm water......love your attention to him.
Gotta take care of him. He's part of the family and crew 💜
One of the things I love about all the YT canal boat bloggers is the many chances to view the amazing architecture on our canal network. The quality of the brickwork on those amazing bridges on the Shroppy is simply stunning.
And yet another top-notch vlog from you two (three ?) - well done guys 😎👍👍
Cheers, Stephen!
The drone footage at 14:08 was amazing. I was actually awed, thank you.
Aww, cheers! 😊
Guys
Wonderful drone footage taking full advantage of the great winter weather including that ‘to die for sunset’ . Poor Dillon taking an impromptu dip in the canal. Do you think he was simply attention seeking? I can imagine him on his doggie I PAD 😁 right now reading all viewers’ comments and thinking to himself that he is truly the star of the show!
Mike
Ah, he slips off the edge. He lays right on the edge of the deck and slips when he gets up too fast. He's done it 3 times now.
I'm bingewatching...slow day here and I really enJOY spending it with you three. This is one of my favorite episodes...a perfect balance of beautiful skies, lovely views, interesting histories, entertaining banter, incredible music....and DILLON! Thanks for sharing a world so different than any I've known. Journey mercies!

Thanks for another fabulous video. Pleased that Dillon ok.
Thanks, Philip. Yeah, he's fine 👍🏻
Hi. I use to moor at Norbury. Opposite where you are. I was there for 4 years. Also moored at market Drayton for 3, years. Loved it at Norbury junction. A great video. Many thanks from chris 👍
Cheers, Chris. I liked Norbury very much. Not so keen on Drayton but that was a combination of noise and mud 😂
"Your bowel movements....." I thought that was going to be the man overboard bit! Lol. Great video as always. Thanks guys.

What a sweet dog Dillon was! Thanks to you part of him is still with us.
We miss him every single day! 💜
Thanks for the historical narratives; we appreciate your research and your commentary thank you! 👍

Colin, credit where credit is due. I reckon Shaun handled those ferocious by-washes with extreme skill. It just goes to show that his time as a Chef on HMS Eccles Cake prepared him well your future life together.

This is a really well produced video. The content is sooper-dooper as well. This made my Saturday morning I must say. Thanks fro doing what you do.

Friday Volgs are best watched with a cup of tea and you cozy Foxes Afloat sweatshirt. Excellent Vlog!! Strange way to get Dillon to have a bath. Xoxoxo
We couldn't agree more! 💜
I enjoyed this, your latest, vlog. Glad you can both keep so chirpy at this miserable time of year, it’s pretty grim up here in deepest Yorkshire.
Sadly I had to have my dog put down about a month ago, a terrible thing to do even if it was for the best, so you continue to spoil Dylan and get as much pleasure out of him as is possible. Dogs do give so much in return.
Keep your vlogs coming, they just keep getting better
ATB
Sorry to hear about your dog, Gareth. x
Guys, I have to thank you for taking me along on your travels around the English countryside. I will never be able to travel to England and see in person. Always enjoy seeing the beauty of your Homeland. Thanks again!

Bravo. Another truly professional programme. Best thing on Friday night tv.

I'd feel more honoured if you watched them all, including the adverts 😂 ❤️
You bunch of irriots love your work!
Haha! Thanks 👍🏻
Thanks very much for another fantastic vlog.
I have actually met Charlie Atkins better known as Chocolate Charlie in the 1970's. He was permanently moored on the Trent & Mersey near the Anderton Lift.
Charlie taught my late Father how to make rope fenders for the bow and stern.
I have forgotten the name of the boat that he lived on.
A bit more info on The Wrekin - A beacon fire on this hilltop warned of the coming of the Spanish Armada - and traces of an Iron-Age camp indicate that it was recognised as a good defensive site almost 2000 years ago.
Ah, where were you when I was researching all this? 👍🏻
@@FoxesAfloat At home.
Regarding a bow rope fender, on the final layer of rope you start in the middle and work your way to either end.
I have never forgotten Chocolate Charlie telling me that and that was around 1972.
Great Vlog again, very informative and interesting. Dillon is superb, hope he is dry by next week. :-)
Haha! He takes aaaaaages to dry properly 😂
I do love your canal history inserts you always have. Being American I know less than nothing about the canal system of England. Your patter is great fun and I come away feeling like I learned something. Lots of narrow boat VLOGS out there in Utube land but yours is the only one with a history lesson.
Thanks so much, John! 👍🏻
Well at least you had your pants on, mate. And I'm sure you were most polite to the speeding cretin. I've been known to shake a stick at speeders who don't slow down for my horse as the law requires. Rudeness should never be tolerated.
I'm guessing there's water dog in Dillon's family. Sometimes the call of the water just gets overwhelming. Or maybe he just enjoys the nice warm washup. Maybe he thought Colin had fallen in and needed rescuing. But he is a good little swimmer and knows which way to head. Did you let him roll about in your unwashed sheets to dry off?
As always a delightful visit and tour of the Shropy. I love all the color comment you bring to your adventures. Thanks gents. And of course make sure Dillon knows he gets a 10 for his swimming form.
I'll shake more than a stick at them 😂
Haha! Dillon is 5* at swimming 👍🏻
Cheers, Don 💜
That sky was incredible, I don't think I've ever seen a sky like it. Sean's camera skills are just amazing.
They are, but Colin takes the photos 😂
Aaah bless Dillon, RIP sweet little man. You must have such lovely memories of him. Seeing him swimming back to the boat and then the lovely shots of Colin on the towpath with a bowl of warm water tidying him up. Every time he looked up to the camera from the boat he had a look of complete devotion on his little face. What a gem he must have been. ❤️
He was the BEST! I miss him every single day 💜
"It stands up on its own." LOLOLOL I LOVE your guys' sense of humor. I can't get enough of your videos. Not just for the adventure, but you're such a beautiful couple and it's obvious how much you love each other. I consider you gay role models.
Aww, cheers 🏳️🌈
That sky was amazing!
It really was! 😊
When you mentioned the pronunciation of 'Tyrley' it made me think, (as a yorkshire lad) it could be something you'd say to a mate that arrived before the time he was supposed to. Another lovely vlog, thanks boys :)

As always, a beautiful visual trip to England! My grandaunt used to go to a cinema back in the days at her hometown where they would show a slide show of a trip somebody made to some place she could not visit.
