Why Did Darth Maul Stop Using The Mandalorian Darksaber?

- Why Did Darth Maul Stop Using The Mandalorian Darksaber? The darksaber is often considered to be one of the most powerful lightsabers. For almost 20 years, the Darksaber was in the possession of Darth Maul. However, after the Clone Wars Maul stopped using it, instead using a saber made from the scraps of inquisior lightsabers. It could be that he stopped using it as it would draw unwanted attention to him, or perhaps it reminded him of his past failures. However, Dave Filoni claims that Maul stopped using it due to the Mandalorian twist Tor Vizla added to it many years ago. The flat blade and emotional resonance meant that Maul was simply more comfortable using a double bladed lightsaber

I'd go with the simple solution: Maul was principally a staff-fighter, so he had little use for the Darksaber once he forged a new saberstaff. He was using it mostly as a badge of office and to fill the gap left by half his saber being lost, and neither usage was as important once he had a proper staff and nominally held Mandalore uncontested.
He probably tried to weld it to his original lightsaber and it defended itself from such, and he got a better chance by taking one from a defeated inquisitor

I assume for a Force User, their lightsaber is kinda like their own life. Kinda in the same way how most professional basketball player would have their own favorite shoes. Probably why Kenobi himself said "This weapon is your life" in The Attack of The Clones and Darth Vader even mentioned that he dislikes Palpatine's lightsaber. Their lightsaber would be their bread and jam.
Except that Luke used someone else's lightsaber for years, obi-wan never bothered to retrieve his lightsaber on naboo, and all the times jedi either lose, destroy, or replace their lightsabers for various reasons. Some jedi make new lightsabers when they become masters and others build new lightsabers to suit their fighting style as it develops.
Lightsabers are just tools. They are a science fiction element to star wars, not a fantasy element.
To me making lightsabers a spiritual being that bonds with its user is like when they made force sensitivity a function of biology.
To me the force is a fantasy element that shouldn't be explained with science fiction and lightsabers are a science fiction element that shouldn't be explained with mysticism like a fantasy item.

Aside from the fact that Maul mostly fought with a saber staff, he also didn’t feel like he needed it anymore. The darksaber is what gave him credibility when he ruled over the Mabdalorian clans, but that time has past, and there were no more Mandalorians for him to lead. So now the darksaber is only a saber to him, and he prefers a different kind of weapon.
That is what he said in rebels
The cave is full of relics for the past
But Darth Maul still used The Darksaber right there and the comics of Star Wars Darth Maul Son Of Dathomir.
He didn't have the blade for 20 years. I can't remember how Sabine got it, but Palpatine captured Maul and no one knows when Maul escaped or if ever got the dark saber back.
We do. He didn’t stay as a prisoner much. Because in Son of Dathomir comic Mandalorians rescued Maul from Dooku. They gave him the darksaber back and fought against separatist army and Grievous together . In clone wars season 7 Maul was on Mandalore but the he didn’t used darksaber. Later in Rebels we see him on Malachor without the darksaber but Sabine found the saber in Dathomir.
i think the darksaber stayed on dathomir at end end of son of dathomir and stayed there until maul returned to the planet and made that shrine we saw in rebels
There is a scene on dathomir with maul and ezra, and ezra asks about a lightsaber on a shrine, and this lightsaber is the darksaber, who is then taken, either by ezra beczuse he is curious, or by sabine because she knows what it is
@@alpborakirte801 he talked to Ezra about it in season three

“The darksaber doesn’t have power but the story does”
Or because he would get heavier with negative energy and a swing
I always figured Palpatine took it from him.
it was in Dathomir for years
I assume it's because his fighting style is geared towards a double bladed saber, and not as well suited for dual wielding.
My headcanon is that after the Son of Dathomir comics (but before the Siege of Mandalore) he started keeping it in his lair on Dathomir for safekeeping/as a trophy. Then after the events of the Siege when he lost his reforged double-bladed saber, he returned to Dathomir after escaping Ahsoka’s Venator and began using the Darksaber as his weapon for a brief time until he was able to kill some Inquisitors and forge their scrapped sabers into the one he uses in Solo and Rebels. Plus him killing a bunch of them would explain why he’s feared and nicknamed “The Shadow” by them.
I think Benduday is Wednesday. It's the middle of the week. The Bendu is the middle of the force. But I also read it was like a Friday.
I think the chief reason was that emotional resonance. Why would I want a weapon that functions based on emotions as opposed to one that functions consistently?
He just likes double lightsabers
I thought Sidious took it in the battle after Shades of Reason. 😅
He stopped using it, because he lost a duel to sidious, so he wasn’t worthy to use it. Like we see mando, he can barely use it.
Just after he abandoned the Mandalorians, the Dark Saber become unwieldy.
That darth maul cliffhanger at end of solo movie is pissin me off 😅
"this things lame" - Darth Maul
Theres also the added bonus of getting in sidious way a little bit by taking out some inquistor. Oh and the taking effectively palps stuff an makig it his own
the saber is heavy for whoever the saber thinks is unworthy of it, they’ve shown examples of this in rebels when sabine was training with it and in the mandalorian s3 ep2
It wasn't her worthiness, it was her emotional imbalance. That's why it got lighter during training.
Would you need edge alignment for the dark saber
Don't quote me on this but since it's still made of the same stuff as regular lightsabers and can basically cut through anything I think you wouldn't need edge alignment to deal some serious damage but the smaller area you get with edge alignment probably has some benefits
Also, a circular lightsaber has a cylindrical force rotation, which is easier to master. Also they were more prevalent. The dark saber had its own unique force rotation that was harder to master and very rare
Bro did not have the darksaber for 20 years what????? where tf did you even come up with that information lmao
The fact it was stolen from what amounted to being his base in Rebels is where he came up with that information lmao
he was 30ish in the clone wars when he got it. he was 50ish in rebels when he lost it. that's about 20 years
How was it one of the most powerful lightsabers? Notorious sure, but how was it more powerful
iirc it heated up the beskar spear where the normal lightsabers wouldnt
like red hot
It seems like some holders make it look like it's heavy like in them anti-gravity swords and looked like he struggled to swing it while bo katan swung it with Ees
1) wasn't in solo because the writers feared the audience wouldn't know who maul was without his red blade
2
Kanan showed Sabine how to direct the energy of the darksaber by thoughts and actions. Similar to how Din disrespected its history or Paz focused on the Viszla name, Maul abandoned Mandalore and then the Darksaber rejected him by becoming heavy and too unwieldy to use.
You lost it when we lost a battle
Because his dual lightsaber had drip and made his fighting style look sick asf
I think there was probably the fact that savage died whilst he was using it that effected his ability to use it unimpeded
According to himself in rebels
It was because it’s a relic of his past. So it reminded him of savage and mauls own failures
The Darksaber: Finally! A force user worthy of weilding me
Maul: Cool Saber! Not my style though!
The Darksaber: I mass Tarre Vizsla

Yes, I know...
That last clip 😢
That's why Rey should've had her ass handed to her by Kylo Ren until she forged her double bladed staff like lightsaber.
I thought about it well and technically that lightsaber is broken, if you are skilled enough with your emotions you can make the saber incredibly heavy or light at will, incredible maneuverability and an attack powerful enough to crush anything.
Why did maul stop using the Mandalorian dark saber?
- *spin attacks into perry then choak throws after dash*
I doubt it was a few of those reasons. The darksaber is a very strange artifact. Due to the emotional aspect. He stopped using it after getting caught during the clone wars by sidious. Losing his brother and mother likely created a lot of emotional conflict making the darksaber heavier and much more of a issue to use rather than just using the lightsaber design he iconicly uses.
I heard Darth Mool at the start of the video💀💀💀
Rules of D&D DMing. If you forgot about something don’t just say “I forgot” instead just create a reasoning to excuse your forgetfulness.
The lightsaber he decided to use was not from inquisitors, it is from Savage Opress
Technically Palpatine became the Darksaber Owner when he was beaten in combat or idk maybe after losing he couldn’t use like Din Djarin, maybe got heavier.
Maul gimped himself so his enemies would at least stand a chance.
He was the one who gave the dark saber to Ezra, or fight for it. I don't remember well, but this story is in Star Wars Rebels...
Nope.
He never gave it to Ezra.
Sabine found it on Dathomir, on a shrine that Maul build.
I just assumed it he had it taken away from him when he was captured on Mandalore.
Good short
Out of honour after he used it partially during that fight against Sidious but lost maybe he thought ahh I ain’t worthy to really use it again
The Dark Saber is my favourite lightsaber. 🥰
I forgot they are so use to using circular blades that using a normal sword feels weird😂 Jedi use to actually use regular swords it was showed in a comic. Then from there they upgraded a sword to a glowing sword what came to be known as a lightsaber today
it would have been better if Maul used Savage's saber parts for a new saber
As you can see with Din. If you don't align with this saber you'll struggle to yield it effectively.
Because he wields a dual saber, not rocket science. If I'm not mistaken him and Mace practice the same dueling style and his athleticism along with his rage makes him a problem with double edged weapons.
It's also possible, (though unlikely) that he merely felt like he had no right using it since he lost the duel with Sidious.
Unique items aren't fully upgradeable so they don't scale as you level up.
The saber he made out of his old one and savage’s probably replaced it as a primary weapon, then that one was lost and he forged the next double bladed one out of other hilts from killed inquisitors and he probably left the dark saber somewhere on mandalore if not on dathomir.. because maul was driven out when the republic/empire seized control of mandalore.
According to the lore in the hands of maul the dark saber should have been more dangerous than any other wielder. His rage and sheer power would have made its blows devastating.
If he stuck with the dark Saber he might’ve killed kenobi
Considering Dark Saber is heavy for a one blade Saber Maul would rather have what he used to have a double sided Saber meant for sith
i like the fact that Obi-wan was technically the last person to win the darksaber but didn't take it meaning (by technicality of course) all of the duels to possess the darksaber are void so Din-Djarin isn't the rightful ruler of Mandilore. At least to the best of my knowledge
Because Disney didn't want the hassle of designing a live action Darksaber
But Darth Maul still used The Darksaber in The Comics of Star Wars Darth Maul Son Of Dathomir.
I like to think that the dark saber was no longer a trophy to him. But taking down in acquisitor so many of them to create his own light saber is more impressive. Kind of like general grievous.
Thought in order for him to not be able to use the dark saber he has to lose a duel. I mean officially I mean
I love watching these things
I thought Sidious took it after defeating maul and kept it till the empire used the mandalorian remnant led by Gar Saxon during the Rebels Era as a deal.
Well, if you watch, the Mandalorian moth, Gideon destroyed it when he was fighting Boca tan
he also spent his entire existence trying to perfect the double bladed lightsaber
He forgor💀
It’s not like it’s anymore powerful than a regular sabre. What makes it more powerful is the fact that the owner can rule an entire planet and it’s people. So once mandalore was no more or once he realized he wasn’t gonna conquer it he just switched back because of preference
It's slightly more powerful than a regular lightsaber, since we saw it heating beskar far faster than a regular lightsaber. Although this might be due to the blade being narrower, so the energy is less dissipated
Because when he was challenged by Palpatine, he lost. Palpatine had no interest in keeping it. Somehow, between then and season 7, it just became lost until it resurfaced in Rebels.
I reccomend reading "Son of Dathomir" Novel (or Comics, don't remember now).
It's Canon and shows us what happend to Maul between CW Season 7 and Rebels.
Do you need edge alignment for the dark saber to cut things properly? That alone makes it very impractical against a normal lightsaber.
If you swinging the dark Saber it literally turns into a club after the first few swings. Too damn heavy to wield in a fight
Idk when it was confirmed that he had it for 20 years, but I'm pretty sure when sidious captured him he took it and placed it in a vault, that Maul couldn't get to upon him being rescued by his loyal syndicate members
@@TheCursedCat1927 we saw it during rebels in a shrine on dathomir. So, when he constructed his new double bladed saber before the siege of mandalore, he probably left the darksaber somewhere safe, his homeworld, because he wouldn't have use for it in combat and he was already the undisputed leader of mandalore, so he didn't have to keep the saber as proof of his authority
There is an even better and simpler explanation: When he was captured during the Siege of Mandalore, they didn't allow him to keep the lightsabers, either his old double one or the darksaber. Other Jedi might have taken the darksaber back to Corusant, but Ashoka might be among the few who would see the importance of the blande in the Mandalorian culture, so she left it to the Mandalorians.
“Maul was just more comfortable with a double bladed light saber”

I’m surprise it too so long for someone to break it
Uh ur right but wrong. The dark saber must be owned/aquired thru single combat. Whomever wins must wield it and or do what they want with it. He lost to Sidious so the rightful owner of the dark saber is Sidious

It's mostly a Mandalorian tradition, so it can be ignored, unless you attach it to your political goals.

That is the stupidest laziest excuse
It's probably because Maul with his double lightsaber is simply one of the most iconic things to exist in all of Star Wars.
Maul should’ve put the dark saber and his lightsaber together
That's not why he stopped using it. He stopped using it because the darksaber draws its power from the force-user and over time it starts to become very heavy too heavy to wield.
So everyone is gonna ignore the fact that he was lost the siege on mandalore, so the dark saber could very well been given back to the madalorian or was found somewhere in the throne room considering the fact Maul never used the saber the entire season 7
