    It’s interesting that the church is a game store. As if it’s implying that the Sims worship their creators, us gamers and gaming devs. If gaming were a religion, the game consoles, controllers, and games would all be the religious artifacts and tools for gaming as tools for worship. It’s meta/breaking 4th wall in a way the Sims does often. I’d love to see a new video on all the 4th wall breaks and meta jokes/references in The Sims.

      Let me remind everyone about the whole "Watcher" bit (I think it was called watcher) being an entity believed in by sims. The watcher was just straight up the player, if I remember correctly.
      It was part of sims 3 medieval... I think. I also think that sims 4 jungle adventure has a reference to watcher lore.

      Maybe the sims worship games because they know we the player are their “God” guiding them through day to day life. Gifting and punishing. I think I just creeped myself out.

      Honestly, the Philosophy major supports this theory. One of the topics sims study is "Who Controls the Pie Menu and Why?" The game leans into the meta it's not funny.

    Maybe the small pool was supposed to be the cooling part of a nuclear reactor? Having sims unknowingly swim in an irradiated water seems like something the developers of this franchise would like :p

    For liminal spaces in the sims‚ the backgrounds of the sims 4 have always scared me. When you tab out and go far enough that there’s just cardboard cutouts‚ it makes me feel that there’s something nefarious going on. Also the background sims in San Myshuno.

    • @daianarutolo3068
      @daianarutolo3068 Před 5 měsíci +65

      Most of the background elements in the Sims 4 makes the neighborhood look like The Truman show and it's weird, ESPECIALLY in San Myshuno with the fake people with the same faces and outfits walking the unwalkable spaces

    • @youtuber-official
      @youtuber-official Před 5 měsíci +16

      @EerieOctober, about those characters in the background scenery, well, I've actually never thought of it that way. But yeah, now that you said it, yep, you're right, those characters actually look pretty creepy wandering around aimlessly, and then suddenly disappearing after a while.
      And yeah, you're right about those carboard cutouts, as well. They're also pretty creepy ones.
      Well, I think now my attitude towards The Sims 4 changed all at once because of realizing how questionable those things are, lol.

  • @hubanimations
    @hubanimations Před 5 měsíci +129

    I never really thought that much about sims 2 having liminal spaces.
    However, my theories for the buildings and their previously intended usage:
    -Videogame store was obviously a chapel; no questions asked.
    -The grocery store could've been a mess hall for those staffing the facility. (no clue on the tower though)
    -The pool could've actually have been the barraks, but when the space was sold off, the property owner tried turning it into a swimming pool. This would make sense as there are bathrooms attatched to the building. Not only that, it's probably implied that the government facility was probably the first lot in the area, so the government staff probably had to sleep on site with other houses being constructed later on.
    -Clothing store could've been a mixture of a storage bay and an office. (Roof being just a vent prop)
    -The small shack in the corner could've just been a waste disposal unit with a single chair existing as clutter.

    That 2x1 room in the back of the clothing store baffles me. Wouldn't the chair being next to the door make it easier for an alien to escape? Maybe it is an interrogation room, and the chair is for the interrogator? I was thinking the trashcan could have been a placeholder object that was meant to be replaced later, but this era of the Sims was wonderfully strange, so it's hard to say.

    • @KASPlaysSims
      @KASPlaysSims Před 5 měsíci +8

      I have a more realistic theory . I think it might be to replicate a changing room . The bins I’m not sure about but I think the chair is suppose to be where you sit to look at how it looks or to sit for a second but I’m not sure .

    I think the trash can on the roof of the clothing store is there to suggest the idea that the trash can is being used as a vent. So it's there for ventilation, so this means that the ones in the shack are probably also for ventilation to the underground part of the lab. The chair is likely there so someone could listen through the vents.

    I always saw that weird room in the corner as a place to smoke, which would be weird due to it being fully enclosed, but since I was a child I thought of it as such. The trash cans would be ash trays and the chair would be for the smokers to rest.

  • @lucyl626
    @lucyl626 Před 5 měsíci +20

    I think the small shack was for the security guard, because it's next to the parking lot, the guard registered every incoming and leaving car. The chair was left there because they didn't need it when moving. The trashcans was stored there until someone collects them, because they are not needed anymore.

    I absolutely love this idea for a series! Can't wait for the next one!
    Fu fact: the spiky roof on the weird pool building is called saw-tooth roof, the concept was developed in 19th century, and it was designed to let maximum daylight into a factory while shielding workers from direct sunlight. It was especially important before invention of electric lights that would actually provide good amount of light for big spaces, as the early ones were rather weak.
    My personal theory for the grocery store is that the 'tower' is a chimney, somebody already mentioned it might have been a furnace chimney, which I think is a very good theory, but personally I'd go with some sort of incineration or - gasp - cremation facility, where they got rid of whatever needed getting rid of... I like this one because it kinda implies murder.
    As for the small 'shed' in the corner, I like to think it was merely an entrance into an underground facility, now completely sealed off and covered up, no trace of stairs left so that nobody gets any funny ideas, and I wonder why they needed to abandon it and erase all traces of what was down there. Is there something nefarious hidden in there? Or perhaps is the facility still in use, but secretly, accessed from elsewhere? We'll never know...
    And finally, snack report! Coffee milk and lemon tartelettes.

    • @rustyhowe3907
      @rustyhowe3907 Před 4 měsíci

      Wow that could be why an office is upstairs and any loose end paperwork went right into the incinerator to make it officially never existing.

  • @TheMya1988
    @TheMya1988 Před 5 měsíci +26

    The original diners stem from transportation vehicles, horse and buggy, to train cars to trailers. The grocery store does give the latter appearance (1950+ style), with even the checkered flooring and placement of easy-to-dissemble tables and chairs. The game store definitely seems to resemble a former small chapel. The smallest building appears to be just a waste management facility/interrogation/torture room, especially with the unpainted walls, and single bulb lighting, one might expect. To me, the pool is the most eerie, as I see (theorize) it in two ways: 1) being a nuclear cooling area, 2) a sewerage waste site (both are creepy to be turned into a public swimming area).
    The Lore within the Sims 2 basegame is astounding❣ Thank you so much for taking a deep dive (pun intended), into all the mysteries...I am eagerly awaiting your unravelling more in your new series❣🙃

    a vid maybe on the Goths of the sugar maple coast (Sims 3 Pets for Xbox 360) could be interesting, since theres an entire lil storyline you can do with a cat to get a mansion, and said mansion was owned by the Goths. I also believe that it was either Pets or normal sims 3 (for 360) that had a graveyard involving the Goths, and there being a painting in one of the mausoleums that was a woman in a red dress with long black hair. Which might be a reference to Bella.
    Also in Pets there was a Karma Power (basically an ability you as the player could use, to help or hinder sims) that would allow you to turn a sim into a pet and vice versa.
    So the Karma Powers might be a fun thing to look into too.

    So funny enough, the second I seen the pool I thought of a plant I worked at during Covid. The room itself literally looked identical e to this. Only difference was, there was a huge sifting arm. It housed human waste. The poop would run into this room, where it would be cycled through a system that would liquify and dispose of it properly. It was insanely gross, but it answered so many questions I had as a kid.

    I feel like the small room in the back could’ve been a way into an underground area, and it was cemented over, or the trash cans could’ve been a means to get downstairs, as like a switch or something

    My theory is rather simple for the small room. It's a smoking room 😅. That trash can resembles the trashcan that are also used for smokers in public places, the 2 small windows there is to resemble ventilation system which often used in smoking room/area. I can see myself smoking in that room to be quite honest, I can also see sims smoking in that room, especially the rebel teens of the neighbourhood.

    I absolutely love Strangetown. The Specters, Smiths, and Grunts were my favorite families. Ophelia, Johnny, and Ripp were the trio of misfit kids that uncovered secrets in my game. I’m gonna try to recreate that in Sims 4, but sadly it won’t be the same.

    I think the trash cans are supposed to resemble ash trays and smoking rooms maybe? When the game came out smoking was more popular than it is now, but smoking rooms used to be much more popular back in the day. Perhaps it’s just something that looks odd to people 20ish years later since times have changed? 🚬🚭

    This lot might have been the original downtown / community area when the town population was next to nothing. It could have been that the various buildings had varied design and usage intent because it was just more convienent for the town back then.

    More videos about Sims and liminal spaces, please.
    I knew about that tiny room with two bins and a chair but never paid attention to the other buildings. I thought it was a clandestine interrogation room in where t0r tures were practiced. The bins were aimed to clean samples of puke, blood and other fluids. I don't know if it was aimed to interrogate human Sims or aliens.

    So on the pool...what is a common thing people did with sims in the sims 2? Popping em in the pool and removing ladders. Immediately thought of that.
