- Eritrea officially the State of Eritrea, is an African country on the Red Sea coast in the Horn of Africa region of Eastern Africa, with its capital and largest city at Asmara.Eritrea was called Mdree-Bahree (which means Land of the Sea) by the local people. The term "Eritrea" derives from the Greek term Sinus Erythraeus, which can be translated in English as Red Sea. Eritrea shares borders with Ethiopia, Sudan and Djibouti. The current population of Eritrea is 3,691,484.Eritrea population is equivalent to 0.05 percent of the total world population. Eritrea ranks number 133 in the list of countries by population.The land has a total area of 117,600 km² and a total coastline of 2,234 km. This land area is approximately 111% of the area of Ohio. Eritrea is thus the 22nd smallest country in Africa and ranked 101st in the world.There are nine officially recognized ethnic groups in Eritrea, Afar, Blien, Hidareb, Kunama, Nara, Rashaida, Saho, Tigre and Tigrinya. In an Eritrean context, reference to Indigenous Peoples is primarily based on the claim of indigeneity made by some Eritrean ethnic groups such as the Afar, Kunama, Saho and Nara.Tigrinya is spoken by about 7 million people around the world. It is a widely spoken language in Eritrea and in the northern part of Ethiopia. In Eritrea it is a working language in offices along with Arabic.

Yes, I am Eritrean too and I know many Eritreans are living in Uganda as a result of the dictator in their country. The one man nation, he stayed in power since 1991 and did nothing for the country. Eritreans are the second largest refugees in the world after Syrians.

Unfortunately the worst to happen to Eritrea was Italy losing the war to the British and being gifted by the British to Ethiopia....remember my grandfather telling me he would rather be in the trenches with 10 Eritrean Ascari than 100 northern Italians.....nobody fought more fierce and loyalty than the Eritrean Ascari....my grandfather brother is buried in the cemetery of Asmara and one day God willing i wish to visit this beautiful country and people....may Allah the Almighty grant peace and prosperity for centuries to come

Just for correction, almost all our people speak Arabic and tigrinja in addition to the seven other languages. At school we learn in english from the 6th grade that's why we speak english as well but not as much as arabic😊

I love Eritrea and Eritreans. Eritreans are very loving and lovely people. They are kind, hard working and honest people. I had classmates in my final year secondary school in St.Augustine, in Khartoum , kind of Daniel, Hellena, Yerasellem and others. Infact Eritreans even helped in the liberation of my country South Sudan. It pains me so much whenever I learn about mishandling of an Eritrean citizen in my country.

Even our Prophet Muhammad, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, described Prophet Moses, peace be upon him, as black in color, curly hair, and his appearance as the men of the people of Sudan, and even there are evidence that prove that Moses, peace be upon him he went from the Ethiopian plateau and moved to the Nubians and married a Nubian woman and resided with them, and the Nubians at that time were kings and owners of a great civilization. I am not the so call it axsum I am an Eritrean. The ancient and recognized book in the world is a Bible . I am the person that don't decive and believe in western history which the Bible is not one of that. It is from the middle eastern. Most African still believe and decive by the western history which is contrary than Africans and against. God divided the sea of Eritrea not the sea of axsum. Us Eritrean Tigrinyans also ruled Axum with the Tigrayans what are you talking about? We have claim to that empire as well. The seperation between Eritrean Tigrinyans and Ethiopian Tigrayans hasn't always existed, we at some point used to be the same tribe including with Tigre people (Tigre people divided also because of adopting Islam as their main faith and the 3% difference between our languages distance to ge'ez, Tigre = 71% while Tigrinya is 68%) . Today though its understandable why there is a division mainly because of the TPLFs despicable behaviour and Ethiopia's actions to Eritrea.
Axum belongs to Northern Ethiopians and Eritreans that is where the empire actually centralized. However at the time we had our own self governed kingdom Mdree-Bahri at the time hence why the Eritrean identity exists seperately from the ethiopian. Its not coincidence that the ancient language spoken of Ge'ez is still presently spoken by its closest child Tigre in Eritrea where the most Tigre people can be found, followed by Tigrinyan Eritreans, Ethiopian Tigrayans (same language) and lastly Ethiopian Amhara. Its not a coincidence that the oldest ancient ge'ez script is found in Northern Eritrea Matara and not in the Amhara or further down.
So its not an error to call Eritrea Axum. However it might not be properly inclusive since not all Eritrean tribes were in power running the Axumite Empire.
