  • Asmara is the capital of Eritrea and is located in the central highlands of the country. It is a city with a rich history and culture, and is home to a diverse population of over 1 million people as of 2023. Asmara is known for its well-preserved modernist architecture, which earned it the designation of a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017. The city is also a popular tourist destination, and is known for its vibrant culture, rich history, delicious food, and friendly people. In today’s video, I will give you a rundown of the city’s brief history, the people and their culture, the transport network of the city, the best time to visit, best attraction sites and lots more.
    History of Asmara.
The history of Asmara dates back to 800BC according to Eritrean Tigrayan oral tradition history. It was initially occupied by 4 clans; namely the Gheza Gurtom, the Gheza Shelele, the Gheza Serenser and Gheza Asmae. They lived in conflict and kept receiving attacks from the nearby clans. The women proposed that the 4 clans come together to fight against these external clans. This is where the word Asmara came from basically meaning They all came together. The city was originally a small village, but it grew in importance in the 19th century when it became a major trading center. In 1889, #asmara was occupied by Italy and became the capital of Italian #Eritrea. The Italians invested heavily in Asmara, and the city underwent a period of rapid modernization. Many new buildings were constructed in the Art Deco and Modernist styles, and Asmara became known as Africa's Little Rome. In 1941, Asmara was captured by British forces during World War II. The city remained under British administration until 1952 when it became part of the Federation of Ethiopia and Eritrea. In 1962, Ethiopia unilaterally dissolved the federation and annexed Eritrea. Asmara became a major center of the Eritrean War of Independence, which lasted from 1961 to 1991. In 1993, Eritrea gained its independence from Ethiopia, and Asmara became the capital of the new country.
Asmara is a diverse city with a population of over 1 million people with the official languages being Tigrinya, English and Arabic. Other ethnic languages are spoken here as well. The majority of the population is Tigrayan, but there are also significant populations of Eritreans from other ethnic groups, as well as Italians, Ethiopians, and other foreigners. Asmara is a cosmopolitan city with a rich culture. The city is home to a number of museums, art galleries, theaters, and there is a vibrant nightlife scene. Asmara is also known for its delicious food, which reflects the city's diverse culinary heritage.
    Transport Network
Asmara is well-connected by road, rail, and air. The city is served by the Asmara International Airport, which is the only international airport in Eritrea. Asmara is also connected to other major cities in Eritrea by rail and road. The city has a well-developed public transportation system, which includes buses, taxis, and minibuses.
The best time to visit Asmara is during the dry season, which runs from October to March. The weather is mild and sunny during this time, with average temperatures ranging from 15 to 25 degrees Celsius. The rainy season runs from June to September, and the weather can be hot and humid during this time.

I am Eritrean and I will try to explain "the African city of women" and the vloger can correct me if she mean something else.
The name asmara means united in tigrigna language. Back in the days there were four clans in today asmara and they used to fight one another continuously. The women from each clans gathered and forced the men to stop fight and unite. And they did. So the credit goes to the women.
Actually it was called originally arba'ete asmara, arba'ete means four in tigrigna. So it means the four that united. Later they dropped the arba'ete and they just called it asmara. But there is a neighborhood in asmara called arba'ete asmara.
Eritrean women are highly respect and protected in Eritrean society and the extremely respected in Eritrea are the mothers.
Women's decency is the most highly sought in Eritrean culture.
I hope I have clarified "the African city of women"

I think she might have said that because we had equality before any western country and also the women contributed in the war. They were treated equal as the men. Most Ethiopian soldiers feared Eritrean women soldiers because if they were captured by them they wouldn’t give any sympathy almost ruthless and patriotic. Because the women was targeted treated badly unimaginable stuff by the Ethiopian and maybe that were the emotions come from. But to this day we have equal pay and treatment.

@@proyouservicesltd3652 no it was during the worst war were many horrible things feel on the women such as breast cut off many heinous things happened to them so they had this hate towards them. Feminist is the western ideology of a women. A women and a man are different we know that and we accept that a man place and a women’s place but a women have a right to land, inheritance and equal pay job. There is no such thing as identifying as feminist because there was no discrimination to begin with. Every person need to serve the country after the age of 17 going to 18 then need to do two or more years of military service. So our standard and the west standard have big difference because we are culturally and religiously guided but the west is guided by freedom of self expression.

@@geatodaoz6043 All the young Eritreans fled their country and are living in Europe, Australia, Africa, Scandinavian countries, America and Canada as refugees.
Only the elder people live in the country.
The old men are in the endless forced military service.
The population of Eritrea is declining because of the endless war against the neighbouring countries specially Ethiopia.
The dictator interfers in the internal affairs of the neighboring countries to destablize them.
Eritreans are suffering in the hands of the cruel leader Isaias Afewerki.
