Great concept, and for those asking yes a FTA 39” dish would be better suited to capture the signal over a Dish or Directv style dish

    What a load of rubbish an LNB isn't an antenna, the LNB horn is mounted at the focal point of the parabolic dish so that the RF signal coming from a specific direction will be reflected from anywhere on the dish face in phase constructively into the horn, if the signal is strong enough to receive just by pointing the LNB in the direction that the signal is coming from without using the dish then you don't need the LNB!

    • @brianjackson38
      @brianjackson38 Před rokem +1

      The LNB is not an antenna but the 'LNB + Dish' is an antenna system. That is why it sends input into the RF port of the decoder.

  • @darrenwalter557
    @darrenwalter557 Před rokem +31

    If you use the dish that it was originally used, it will narrow the area in space that it will listen and talk to while substantially amplifying the recieved signal and making the transmitted signal so concentrated that less signal will get lost in the ether, making it clearer and stronger to the receiver. Another result will be that the transmitted signal will be less likely to be found by other devices unless they are in the signal cone created by the lnb either directly in front of or directly behind the intended receiver. A downside is that nearly any object placed between the sender and receiver will block the signal, just like with the new 5g, but I have heard that someone has developed a technique to reduce the affect of things in-between the units. It's very convenient that wifi and satellite communication use ecactly the same frequencies, only the protocols vary. I would leave the lnb mounted on the dish and make the changes so that the alignment with the dish remains the same. There's no point to removing it except to waste time and cause yourself frustration trying to get it perfect again, unless you're not going to use the dish at all. I have seen folks do this with routers and switches with excellent results. Pretty much any device which has an antenna seperate from the device with a wire connecting them, and is wifi of course, is a good candidate for this modification.

      wifi works on 2,4 GHz wavelength of this frequency is 12,5 Cm. he´s trying to make a cantenna, those types of antennas can extend the wifi range up to 300 meters. so you cut the wire at 1/4 of the wavelength that´s 12,5 divided by 4 and you got the length of wire. but this might not work as expected. you need very specific measures for cantennas to work. you can´t just grab old lnb and try to make it work. The antenna for a Wifi device is everything. Think of a regular antenna on a Wifi Router or USB Wifi adapter as a Lantern. With a Lantern the light emits all around in a circle. So think of is as light goes to places where you do not need it. If you have a Higher dBi antenna the light from the lantern will be more focused and reach out further. If you get something like a Panel antenna or a Dish antenna then think of the light coming out is really focused like a flash light.
      If you need a good wifi signal buy a Router or a USB Wifi Adapter where you can replace the antenna with a high gain antenna like a 9dbi. Most only come with a 3dBi and the more money you pay the better antenna they give you. All You Do is just buy a Wifi Adapter or Wifi Router where you can remove and replace the antennas and replace them with antenna that have a high dBi like 9dBi. You can fine these antennas on Amazon for under $10....You can get a 4 Pack for around $25.
      If you need to get wifi really far away you buy a 'panel' antenna. They tend to have a higer gain like 13 dBi and around $40 or $50 bucks for something that gets 2.4 and 5Ghz. When buying USB Wifi Adapter you just look for the chip they use in it. You want a chip that supports Dual Band 802.11ac or 802.11ax (Wifi 6). More money does NOT mean a better USB wifi Adapter at all and just because it says its faster on the box it all comes down to the signal and the only way to get the best signal is a decent antenna and the chipset the use. You cn literally get a USB Wifi Adapter with removable antennas for $15 and change the antennas and it will work better than one that is an expensive brand name.. Trust me on this...

      The object on the end of the arm out front of a satellite dish is called the "lnb" . It is the actual antenna inside it which the signals are focused upon.
      Only the satellite receiver is simplex or duplex. The antenna, if the wire is cut off the satellite electronics inside it, then it can be hooked up to the router or any other device directly, not using the electronics in the lnb at all. So who cares if it's simplex or duplex, that part is not used.

      Please how can you hook up an LNB to a router

    • @darrenwalter557
      @darrenwalter557 Před rokem +2

      Open up the lnb, cut the wire off at the circuit board which goes from the antenna wire to the circuit board. Then use the wire that previously went from the lnb to the satellite reciever to now go to the router in place of an antenna.

      A router is a box that has antennas and has a wire going to it from another box, usually, that is provided by your internet service provider. If you have dsl, it will have a phone wire plugged into it and a network cable (looks like a fat phone wire and has 8 wires in it, compared to 2 or 4 for a phone wire). If you have broadband from your cable TV provider, then there will be a box with a cable TV wire going in and a network cable going out to a router. If you have AT&T full wireless like I do, then the router (or wifi box), will have a network cable coming from another box with or without antennas. That was too long! Whew! A router is a wifi box, with anywhere from no antennas all the way up to 10 antennas, from what I've seen.

      As for passwords if hooking to wifi in public places most are open or if you use one from a store the password is usually public. I remember Sam's club used the store number for the password for the laptop displays. I think now it's open for people to use their phones. Walmart is open also. I stayed at a motel and it's wifi stunk so Lowe's store was just down the road and I used Lowe's wifi. I had to sit outside the room but that was ok. 73
