    i dont think he realises it was a really bad waste of time. u can just reconfigure the router as wireless client or repeater. u can maybe mod it for POE and have it work over lan. if the firmware doesn't support it than just replace it with openwrt. if u really want a good signal then u can use directional antennas.

    You literally put a router outside without any outdoor enclosure. Rain could get into there and it can destroy the router completely by water getting into it. Have you thought about this?

    A very stupid idea! Except for the fact that the wifi dongle doesn't need to be fitted inside the case of a router but could easily be fitted inside any case (better if waterproof), the main ERROR consist in connecting two antenna cables to the same connector: the impedance between the line and the connector is not matched! Assuming that the sma connector have 50 Ohm impedance and the same for the two coaxial cable, the line is unmatched reflecting back half of the power (excluding other unidealities caused by soldering process etc.)

  • @MrGarfield
    @MrGarfield Před rokem +3

    This is not using a router but using a route case. Adding 2 antennas does not improve the data transfer speed ether not the reception of a signal. You would have achieved the same result when you put the Wifi USB stick on a stick and make it even a kind of water proof with some duct-tape

  • @samrexso5228
    @samrexso5228 Před 2 lety +9

    I think it may work but it will be way too laggy since USB cables are known for data loss the longer it gets...so not a convenient way to make an access point u should use ethernet (cat5) cables instead of USB.....

    • @thisfeatureisbad
      @thisfeatureisbad Před rokem

      Signal degradation over USB is not that problematic. The issue is, why reusing a router's housing when he could just put the antennas outside? Maybe putting an external 5V power supply on the other side of the USB cable would also make the signal stronger. Like printers sometimes did that and you always had a notification on WInodows saying power surge or overpower. Or the external harddrives with 2 USB male connectors. One as data and one for power.

    radio frequency , radio power chips antenna types , latency all must be suit for good Wi-Fi connection with good latency otherwise even we can see Wi-Fi signal is good after connected when we tried to watch movies or download big files latency rate is so high and it will slow down our internet.

    I only wanted to know how he waterproofed it so it can be used outside. If I could put a repeater on the outside of the wall my house router is on then I can run an ethernet cable to it and then with the repeater outside I should be able to push my wifi signal at least 100 feet to pick up the signal from a battery powered/solar panel charger wifi security camera. I just need to know how to make one waterproof and I am set. I have 2 or 3 old routers I can use.

      I'd use a mesh system to prevent there being multiple wifi ssids, unifi is pretty good but costs a little more to get up and running but is very reliable. Other than that if ya just wanna extend your WiFi range on the cheap then heck go for the 3 router.
