  • In this episode of Tough Rules & Cool Interactions, I will be talking about the new Lilah Legendary Creature from the new Thunder Junction set and more specifically what is and is not a multicolored spell. I've seen a good bit of confusion surrounding her and what cards do and do not trigger her Triggered Ability.

    Well well well, I didn't think I would be confused about "what is and isn't a multicolored spell" but here we are.

    "If you’re casting a split card with fuse from any zone other than your hand, you can’t cast both halves. You’ll only be able to cast one half or the other."
    So you can't cast both sides from exile.

      @andimayer1119 Před 3 měsíci

      Here the rules text for it:
      702.102a Fuse is a static ability found on some split cards (see rule 709, “Split Cards”) that applies while the card with fuse is in a player’s hand. If a player casts a split card with fuse from their hand, the player may choose to cast both halves of that split card rather than choose one half. This choice is made before putting the split card with fuse onto the stack. The resulting spell is a fused split spell.

      @@andimayer1119 Well done for both of ya! I was hoping to trick some one by mentioning it being cast without paying its mana cost, but it is indeed the casting from a Zone other than the hand that is the problem.

    I like how you're able to connect these videos to new sets. It is nice that wizards keeps doing new stuff.

      Yeah I've got a bunch of videos for lots of other things but when they release these new cards, especially if it's on a Legendary Creature, I like to get videos out based on them since they're likely to see a lot of play in the next few weeks.

    I pauswd it and read the fuse bit on the card, seems like it's a no go.

      It actually does work because it becomes both halves of the spell, the blue half and the red half, which are two different colors.

      @@alasanof Sadly, you wouldn't be able cast it Fused via Plot. Fuse specifically says that it needs to be cast from hand, and Plot will have it being cast from Exile.

      @@ThisIsACommanderChannel I misunderstood the actual question. I thought it was a question if Lyla would exile it, which it would.

    Paused to respond to the BQ. I don't think you can cast the fused spell from while given that the card specifically states "from your hand" in the fuse text. I'm on the move so I can't check CR for exactly how you *could* cast it from exile but my guess will be that you can cast one side or the other while it's plotted but not both. As a second thought, maybe you can't cast it at all because of Fuse? My gut is going with the first answer tho.

    • @ThisIsACommanderChannel
      @ThisIsACommanderChannel  Před 3 měsíci

      Correct! You got it right on the first one. Fuse does require it be cast from hand in order to do so Fused. You would be able to pick one of the halves though.

    I know the answer for the Teach by Example one, but still when you asked it I had some doubt. It is one of those things that if someone did it during a game then I probably wouldn't have second guessed them. Oh, and your Scryfall link, that's wild that there is so few cards to choose from. In addition to some being bad because they're counterspells, there are a few that are bad because they're X spells, not good when you're casting it for free.

    I have a question and your the only one I can really ask:
    If I have Myrkul Lord of Bones on the field and have a Tree of Perdition. If I turn Tree of Perdition into an enchantment, can I use its effect to turn an opponent’s life to 0? There was a judge ruling that said that a noncreature should have an assumption of 0, but its confusing for me.

  • @HumdrumMadman
    @HumdrumMadman Před 3 měsíci

    I don't know if there is enough for a video in this idea, but I'd be curious if there are any cards that can allow you to cast plotted cards as an instant.
    Can an effect like Vedalken Orrery or Leyline of Anticipation affect them, or is it simply baked in to the plotted card and unable to be altered?

    • @andimayer1119
      @andimayer1119 Před 3 měsíci

      Can't think of any card(s) that would make that possible, since the ability itself puts the restriction on the plotted card.

      @digitalworldsvr7881 Před 3 měsíci

      I think he did a video about this but it was one of his older videos. Not sure which one it was but I wanna say that it didn't work out. It is a restriction and you having a card that lets you cast or do things at a different speed doesn't let you get around that restriction.

    • @HumdrumMadman
      @HumdrumMadman Před 3 měsíci

      @@digitalworldsvr7881 it's understandable, turning your multicolored counterspells into guaranteed two-for-one's, and being able to slowly build a bank of them throughout the game, would be miserable to play against.

      Sadly, a card like the Vedalken Orrery wouldn't let you get around things that say to only do them at any time you could cast a Sorcery. TR&CI Episode 7 is one that went more into depth on this. It's in the later half of the episode.
