This saved my child's life today. Her grandma let her have a Dorito. I came to pick her up and she was walking and eating her chip when all the sudden she began to choke. Typically, she will choke on things for a second and spit them our but this time was different. She was getting no air out at all, and was repeatedly trying to dislodge it. I intervened immediately, slapping her back a bit, which didn't work, I then remembered the video I watched when she was born so I could prepare my self for this in case it ever happened. Layed her stomach down on my forearm, head between my fingers, and slapped her back between the shoulder blades and the chip flew right out. Thank goodness for these videos, they literally saved my daughter's life today, im sure I probably lost a few years off my life from the stress it caused me.

A little different but my son actually disconnected my rib from my spine when I was at the end of my pregnancy with him. He was large and high. I actually would never have known if I wasn’t going to the chiropractor and she feel it and pop it back in! If this does happen, the thing you can do a lot about is the swelling and that’s what will be causing a lot of the pain. If you think you broke your child’s bone (or if he has swelling anywhere) make a POTATO POULTICE. Watch a video now on it and be amazed. Barbra O’Neill has many home remedy videos!

The dislodging mechanics are pretty spot on but I just wanted to add that you should never hold a choking baby nonchalantly like that. They squirm and fight and will wrestle out of your arms. You need to aggressively pin their legs to your body while you perform these actions. Else you may likely drop them on their head. Before you turn them, put them in a "claw grip": One hand on the face and forearm on the chest, place the other hand on the back of the head and forearm on the back. Both hands and forarms pressing together firmly. Once turned, aggressively pin the baby back to your body.

This is decent instruction and more or less shows the correct way to treat a choking baby. I am an EMT and American Heart Association CPR instructor and would recommend that EVERYONE get trained in these life saving techniques. Bravo for taking the time to create this video but it doesn't take the place for actual in person training where you get to use a CPR dummy and try the techniques and then ask questions, etc.
On a different note, I teach CPR at my fire station to certify the guys and then teach family and friends more or less for free (there is a cost for the certification cards that I pass onto them but otherwise I don't charge anything). It amazes me how some people are so opposed to being trained. These are life saving measures that can really be the difference between life and death prior to EMS arrival. Everyone should take a class in CPR and first aid in my opinion.
When my son was probably 2, he started choking on a toy. I remember the horror when I looked over and saw the look on his face. I wasn't trained then but I jumped up and did back blows and he quickly spit the object out and started crying. My mom was already on the phone with 911 and had the fire department on their way. They checked him out and thankfully he was ok. He's 26 now :)
You never know when you will be the only one that can help. This was actually why I became an EMT. I didn't want to be that guy stating there in a panic with no idea what to do in an emergency. I got AHA BLS CPR certified, got my NREMT and became a CPR instructor really just for the knowledge. It was only afterward that the opportunity to join the fire department as a volunteer EMT came up. I figured "what the hell?" and joined. If I can do 911 response then I'll have the skills to help someone when it happens at the mall, store, whatever. I used these skills once to save my mom when she started choking at lunch. I was also able to diagnose a cardiac issue with my step father and get him to the hospital. Now I'm also a volunteer firefighter and enjoy helping people in need.
Get trained... you can save a life and it might even be your own.

For a 2 year old you have their head lower than their bottom for the baxk blows too? When do you switch to regular Heinrich

    • @rhoonah5849
      @rhoonah5849 Před rokem +10

@@eminemilly Yes the head is generally lower than the body... you get a little bit of a "gravity assist" that way. As for the Heimlich, I think that is a judgement call based on how big the child is. You don't want to do it on a smaller child like an infant. If they are a normal sized 2 year old then you can just go right to using Heimlich-style abdominal thrusts. Remember that it is only used for patients who are conscious. As soon as they go unconscious, you switch to CPR chest compressions with the modification of when you do breaths, you look inside the mouth to see if the obstruction can be safety removed. NEVER do blind finger sweeps though since you could push the obstruction deeper down the airway.
Take a class... get trained... be prepared!

Yesterday my son and I were home alone. I put him on the floor for literally 2 seconds to grab something from his dresser for his bath. Then I heard a sound like struggle to cough. I rushed to him and it looked like he was trying to swallow something. I gently picked him up because I didn’t want him to panic. I tried to open his mouth but he shut it so tight and kept turning his head away. When I realized he didn’t want me touch his mouth I started to knock his back. He started to vomit. 🤮
I tilted him forward to get all the vomit out… lo and behold a small piece of plastic, kinder like the edge tip of a cereal bag.
After he vomited, he started to laugh. This is not funny. He is 10 months now and at the stage where he puts everything in his mouth.
My 2 year old niece is constantly
Trying to feed him .. I am anxious all the time, even when am at work my mind is not totally at ease. The thoughts of these situations have me very shaky… as a new mom, I am not at peace 😮‍💨

When you turn the baby over after the back blows you should always verify the mouth the ensure something didn't come up a bit and is now in the mouth the choke on again before doing the chest compressions.
Kinda can't believe they missed that part after going through all the effort of making a video.

No disrespect to the other teachers on CZcams, but this is what’s needed a short video straight to the point because a lot of times either we’re in the moment or we just need the general information and there are several 15 to 20 minute videos that I have clicked off of after 30 seconds and I just feel like they were trying to get those views in and they actually lost me where you earned a full two minutes and 43 seconds from me because I watch beginning to end because you were straight to the point very informative and I appreciate you so much for this video❤️😀

I voted it down because a very important means of saving the baby's life was omitted which is to push on the stomach - squeeze it quickly to reduce the size which will force air up and out of baby's mouth.
