*I have a black V6 Pontiac G8 - Scotty it's an honor to watch this video.*
@@cliffcorbitt9494 That is why GM is killing most of their cars. Ford too.
The G8s are underrated. It's a shame that GM couldn't continue them on another line (besides the Chevy SS years later).
I seen a g8 gt last night white clean as hell. Sounded nice too. I was in my 06 g6 GTP sedan. Felt nice seeing one.
They also produced the Chevy caprice aka Holden Commodore for law enforcement. You can find them at auctions or Facebook market.
I love to get a Chevy SS to go in the garage next to my 96 Impala
Hell yeh they are those G8s move fast af & The Chevy SS are dope as well🔥 I been wanting to fine someone with one to Race 😆
The G8 GTs are still expensive.😖
There's only 2 times you should hate a car manufacturer:
- When their cars are made to be too reliable and leave you out of work.
- GM.
Damn so true.
i think caddy Fiat Chrysler are there too.
@@iamteamBB although I own a Ram 1500, Town and Chrysler minivan (wheel chair conversion) and a 2015 Chrysler 200. I know better but just don’t know. The truck has been very reliable for 16 years. The minivan is the only option for a minivan that can accommodate two wheel chairs next to each other in the back and the Chrysler 200 is too new to know. It has 70,000 miles all highway miles and has driven like a new car. Hopefully I got a randomly good car.
GM really isn’t that bad... look at all the cars/trucks they’ve been putting out lately thats amazing... Silverado, Tahoe/Suburban, Colorado ZR2 Bison, Camaro SS/ZL1 1LE, Corvette, GMC Sierra/canyon/yukon/terrain, Caddy escalade etc... also the new Ram 1500s (FCA, not GM) are amazing too and for a long time FCA had and still does have a bad reputation in terms of quality/reliability. I like Ford but everything but the F-150/250/Raptor/Mustang is complete crap by Ford. Just look at the 2020 Explorer release, I like the look of the new Bronco but obviously we have no idea on long term reliability with it yet so yea. Anyways, I think GM still suffers from a bad rep from their bad ideas and mistakes from 2007-2013 where they were cutting costs a lot. Now GM is a lot better I’ll admit, they aren’t perfect but still pretty good.

GM should've killed Buick, not Pontiac
When I think of a Buick I think of an older couple (no offense Scotty) driving a 20 year old Lacrosse slowly from the supermarket. But When I think of Pontiac, I think of a young guy blasting Don Felder's Heavy Metal while driving down the road in his Trans Am with the T-Tops removed.
Buick is now an CUV brand and it makes no sense for me to buy one
The reasons make sense from a global perspective. Pontiac never had popularity anywhere but N America and by the time GM was going bankrupt from legacy costs Pontiac's popularity was basically none. Buick on the other hand has enormous popularity in China which even then was the fastest growing car market in the world. That popularity is growing in other Asian markets. We may not like it, but thats why it went away and today GM is a profitable company
I agree. Buick is the line they should have axed, they still had Cadillac, and Pontiac was always the performance line.
@@kclefthanded427 Exactly. Those Buick Commercials where younger generations are praising the car makes me cringe.

My 2008 G8 GT gets 26 mpg on the highway at 75 mph with a trunk full of luggage running with A/C. The GT model has the L76, Active Fuel Management engine. Mine now has 104K miles. I haven't experienced any problems with AFM yet. We also own a 2000 Pontiac Trans Am WS6, 6 speed manual trans. It's been a good car. It has 54K miles on the odometer.

Scotty you finally reviewed a car that I own. I got the GT version.
I love my g8gt!! He needs to review the gt or gxp

Me too love my GT !!
Same here boss
I love my g8 gt
I have a 2006 GTO based upon the Holden Monero with the LS2 engine and a manual 6 speed. Not well received by the press when I purchased it new. I absolutely love my car. Pontiac worked with an aftermarket company in Australia called Peddars. They created many suspension upgrades including urethane bushings for the suspension and complete suspension kits. I won't sell my car. Only 85K miles. No rattles. Sounds great. It is a much faster car than I am a driver. I get many compliments. Oh, how times have changed!!!
it's Pedders. And it's Holden Monaro. And the press didn't really trash the GTO.
In Australia we released a rare model, AWD HSV GTO Coupe 4 LS2 6 Speed and comes with flared guards from factory
2004 - 2006 Pontiac/Monaro is based on the sedan platform so many specialty parts available, especially from HSV now Tom Walkinshaw division Down Under.
I purchased a new 2009 Pontiac G8 GT. It handled well in stock form, but the Pedders Suspension coil springs, struts/absorbers, stabilizer bars, and miscellaneous bushing upgrades I installed took it to the next level!
How many miles? Im thinking about getting one but all i see is 100k+ milage

You should mention what GM did to the Australian government - they had taken a huge cash infusion on the promise that they would keep Holden going with the money. Instead they sent the money to Detroit and then shut Holden down. They are really pissed, rightly so.
Yeah, they put all of that money into Caddy. Sad that Holden got the shaft on that one.
I have the 2009 g8 gt and I absolutely love it... I’ve owned it for over 6 years and I still enjoy driving it

This video essay is just about perfect in showing how a quality product such as the Pontiac G-8, as well as the whole Pontiac Division was nixed due to both corporate and government incompetence. Thanks Scotty, and keep up the great work!

@@hitek9too255 my dad had a torrent when i was a little fart, and according to him, its the first semi luxurious car he ever owned and if he had to do it again, he'd keep it for me to experience it
Pontiac was killed because of Americans going from brand loyalty to wanting whatever was cheapest. When they stopped having Buick, olds, Pontiac and Cadillac build their own engines the clock started ticking….the 80’s and 90’s is what killed Olds and Pontiac.
I was a Pontiac girl. I was very sad when GM got rid of Pontiac.
The G8 was so promising when it came out and many thought Pontiac was given a second chance.
I've got a 2005 Pontiac Vibe, which is basically a Toyota Matrix. Still runs great with no body rust despite living in the salty Northeast.
i know a kid that is currently driving one. daily, convertible too. plus he deliveries food, mileage is there lol
And Oldsmobile
i still have them ,,,great cars
But GM keeps GMC which are basically rebadged Chevy trucks/SUV’s/crossovers. Lol
Very true, I really see no reason why GMC should still exist
I see GMC as just fancier Chevys and Cadillac is even more fancier GMC 😂😂
The GMC and chevy version or every car is the exact same and built in the exact same plant. Only difference is the badges and trim work
@@kclefthanded427 People buy trucks. GMC sells mostly fleet and commercial vehicles.

When Pontiac was gone...so was Holden. Just a shame
Nah Holden wrapped up production in 2017 with their last model VF Commodore, which is the Chev SS in the states.
I thought the Colorado was being sold as holden in Australia
Both GM and Ford ended manufacture of cars in Oz after decades of local production. The Mad Max "Interceptor" was actually an Australian Ford Falcon and the car driven by the Night Rider was a Holden (GM) Monaro.

Thank you Scotty for a very fair appraisal of an Aussie icon. Do you live anywhere near Hickok45 by any chance? It would be great to see you on the range.
I drove these in Australia before they were a thing in the United States. The one I liked best was the VY series 2 Commodore Calais, which is a previous gen luxury version of the VE which you see here. The first time I experienced that car was in an airport rental lot in Melbourne. I likened it to an early 2000’s 5 series BMW with an LS1, and loved it straight away, and all throughout the rental.
They made a SLP Firehawk version of the G8 and it was a 500hp badass.
👀
Firehawk will ALWAYS be a Firebird Formula period.
G'day mate, well i'm with you, regarding the VE Commodore here in Australia. I had the SS VE, omg what a awesome car. GM should never had stop making them.
The Holden Commodore did soldier on as the Chevy Caprice PPV and the Chevy SS
True, but only because of NASCAR that the Chevy SS was even offered. The SS, itself, was a flop.
@@effend446 poorly marketed car but an amazing car, was a modern muscle car much like the charger
@@BIGGIEDEVIL : Love the Chevy SS. Seen lots of reviews and they always get raves. Too bad they didn’t sell. They might have been successful as a rebadged Buick performance car with sufficient marketing. Other than the Corvette, it is hard for people to accept expensive Chevys.
@@effend446 GM didn’t want the Chevy SS to succeed. They only bought it to America because they were contractually obliged to. They imported their quota of 12000 cars and called it quits. Had they actually promoted it then it might have been a success and the Holden factory could have stayed open.
I do like the irony that Holden could develop and make left hand drive cars for the American market but it’s now beyond GM to bother making any right hand drive vehicles at all.
Fantastic car. I rode in one when I was in high school that had the LS in it here in the states. Comfortable, fast and very quiet surprisingly.
Next day we were rear ended and the car (I believe) was totaled out :(
Couple years later I saw the same guy driving it fixed, this time cammed, full exhaust, intake manifold and intake, and a tune on it... car sounded rowdy. Cool cars but damn near impossible to find a clean example these days. If I was gonna buy one it would have to be an LS.

GM has retired the Holden brand now, but this company called Walkinshaw that owned a department of Holden called HSV - Holden Special Vehicles, has now created a small business called GM Specialty Vehicles, that will import various GM products such as the Silverado and convert them to right hand drive for the Aussie market.
I’ve heard that they clean up some quality control issues that they find from Detroit.
You failed to mention that Holden(GM) took millions from the Aussie govt to keep production open down under. GM took the money and ran. Shuttering the brand and leaving consumers holding the bag.
Not quite right dude.
The moment they got the money the union made pay demands so the money went there instead of the production line upgrades that were supposed to happen.
A year after GM was about to go bankrupt, Hummer was also discontinued and then a year after Hummer was discontinued, Saab was discontinued
SAAB was actually sold to Spyker cars. They were about to release a new SAAB model, and "new GM" took them to court over the nameplate, and they lost the case, forcing SAAB to be sold back to "new GM". It now sits dead, like all the other great American brands.

Pontiac was also gonna release a ute version of G8 called the G8 ST (sport truck) which would’ve been a spiritual successor to the El Camino. Unfortunately GM shut down Pontiac before the ute ever saw the light of day
Which was literally just a rebadged Holden Commodore VE Ute lol much the same how they rebadged the sedan.
I once got to drive a g8 6 speed manual on a small track right by the gm proving grounds in milford Michigan, and let me tell you! It was one hell of a fun car to drive! Outperformed the Cadillac cts-v of its time! Imo, Man was it fun! I still wouldn't have bought one! Lol I did like the drive train though haha
Must have been a GXP with the LS3 as that’s the only G8 with a manual.
@@mikebour454 your absolutely right! It was still a prototype here in Michigan and the US at the time!
Isn't the Chevrolet SS and the Chinese Buick Park Avenue the same car? I thought the SS went until 2017? Great video!
That is a very neat and tidy example of the Commodore. Most G8's I see online are trashed. Not sure what they do to them, but they look much worse then my eight year old Commodore does here in Tassie.
I loved this car when it was out. This and the 2004-06 GTO. And they also built the 2014-17 Chevy SS sedan off the Holden platform as well. These were all great cars that were not very well known but seriously awesome. Great find Scotty!!
Are the Chevy SS still expensive??
@@6lemans10 As Scotty would say, they ain’t givin em away lol.... it was a low production car so even used ones in mint condition will be expensive. The manual transmission even more expensive.
@@joe6096 Booooo!😖
A 2017 manual Chevy SS is worth over $40K with low mileage.
They didn't build the Chevy SS off a Holden platform. It was a re-badged Holden, same as the GTO was a re-badged Monaro.
Lol I have the same car with a some sort of an LS2 engine and a 4 speed e4l65 transmission, they were sold in the middle east as Chevrolet Lumina.
Great car honestly, I drive it like I stole 100% of the time and it held up pretty well so far since 2007.
No you're just driving at how you're meant to mate we drive all cars like there stolen in Australia
No you're just driving it how it's built for mate we drive all cars like they're stolen in Australia 👍
Hi Scotty, do you like your 94 Celica better than your 93?
I'm from Germany and took a look at the Ford Probe because i like that it's somewhat like a muscle car but at the same time got "just" a V6 so i won't go broke by daily driving it.
Any recommandations for similar cars?
Afternoon Scotty! Missing you here in Texas! Sorry we never crossed paths for you to perform a faith healing on my 2007 Saab.
Sorry wrong person
My Pontiac Vibe was totaled after a minor accident because they couldn’t get parts to fix it.
Should be able to. It's a toyota.
@@jth877 That is what I thought. I paid $9,000 and two years and 30,000 highway miles we got $7,000 check for the totaled vehicle. We ended up buying a 2015 Chrysler 200 no loans involved. Right after I bought it Scotty Kilmer listed it as the number one worst car (for its size and all) to buy for reliability, etc. I was heart broken. We have put on 60,000 mostly highway mileage and it has worked perfectly for us so far. I am terrified it’s just going to fall to pieces.
I own a G8 GXP V8 and it's at 66,000 miles and I've had no problems and it's very fun to drive and drift
im wondering, with those beauty covers, does it protect the engine in any way at all? Or it is zero harm to enhine if i take them all off?
I tend to notice beauty covers In vehicles tend to have some type of insulation I believe they put them on to reduce noises.
Gotta love the G8s they're going to be future classics I feel
Edit - Pontiac also made a concept, a G8 ute !! Damn what a shame I would have loved to see those on the streets
From what I read, the G8 UTE was going to be a 2010 model. All 2010 G8 V8's would have been optioned with manual trans as well. Not just the GXP cars.
Leaving a placeholder. Gotta see if I can find a video you might like.
*we just gonna ignore that vulture eating the dead opossum?*
Time stamp?
I wonder what compelled scotty to want to show that in such detail
I bought my 2008 G8 V6 for $2k from my sister-in-law in 2021 who bought it brand new for $35k in '08. Yeah it's got quite a few miles on it(173k) but it drives great, I love it! I replaced the power steering pump and tires that's it. Only complaint is the two front hood vents are brittle and broke. I just removed them both and will be replacing soon.
There's a g8 up for sale in my city it's rare to find one in the Pacific northwest but this one is up for 5k with 211k miles or so on a V6 other than a replaced side fender it looks decent any recommendations to look for or advice?
Don’t buy it lol unless your gonna rebuild thatengine
I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!
You sound like my 'twisted sister'. 😂🤣😅😋
@@mael-strom9707 I see what you did there!
Should reboot the mad max series but have it be about being pissed off that gm took away the last of the holden v8 interceptors
I feel like pontiac was one of the better brands under GM management. That said, once they were dropped, alot of my interest in GM was lost. I do like the GMC pickups still...
I just bought a 2021 Silverado 2500hd. The 2020 has manual 4 way adjustable seats. But they took out the up/down function from manual for the 2021 seats. Didn't tell anyone and it's still in their listed options. They just took it out and gave us nothing 👎😔.
I remember seeing a CZcams video, where someone turned one of these (I think) into an El Camino type truck in the US. Apparently, the Holden Ute, which is an El Camino type truck, is has the same base as this Pontiac G8.
From South Africa, Hello Scotty!
hello!
Whereabout you from my brother?
