As a 2008 G8GT owner this was a great video. Have had similar issues with mine and have owned it since 36k at 17 years old. I am now 28 years old and I’m still driving here proudly at 169k. She has been my daily driver since then and I can’t express how much I love the car. With some work done and added HP she is the demon I will never get rid of. Doing my own work over the years, I’ve only ran into minor engine issues like injectors. Believe it or not, the carrier bearing is actually original to the car. I will be replacing it within the next oil change as per there’s a small shake now, but honestly nothing major. I’ve had 2 accidents in the car….. BUT I was rear ended twice!!! My body shop had no problem getting parts believe it or not, so I’ve been very lucky owning this car my whole life. Finally will be buying another car as a new daily driver, but you must be crazy if you think I’d trade in the G8. She’s with me forever. I want to buy a lower mileage one as a toy and drop some serious power into her like my 20 year old self wanted but couldn’t afford lol. Love these cars and love the community that comes with owning them. Always so stoked when I see another one and honk like crazy. NJ, has a few of them driving around! Thanks for all the added info that was unknown and new things to watch for!
Your GXP is GORGEOUS. Get out and drive her 😉

I really enjoyed your video. I have a Liquid Red '09 G8 GT that I bought new off the dealer's lot. My then wife and I were retired and for the first couple of years it was a road car and spent most of the time in the garage. As I recall it had about 30K on it when my wife died. I met a new, younger lady who is still in the workforce and began driving her to and from work. The miles piled up and now it has 189K on it but is now back to being a once-in-awhile driver. I'm too old to want to work on cars anymore so it's always been dealer-serviced. They have been great and I became friends with my service advisor who discounts their labor rate and will price match parts from online sources. I've never rear-ended anyone but I've been rear-ended twice. I put VMR wheels on it, otherwise it's stock. I've replaced the harmonic balancer and the struts once and had the dreaded DOD cam follower failure, but not until about 170K. We have emissions testing here in AZ so I didn't do the delete at that time. Other than that it's been amazing. It still gets inquiring looks on the street and even though I'm pushing 79, it still lives in the fast lane on the Interstate.

Parts are much easier for us to get here, so it is easier for us to keep them on the road, i also worked in a factory that made parts for these cars like the door trims and many other parts. As a GXP owner since 2009 I can say you made a great video. I have been lucky enough to only come across 3 issues you have mentioned. Headliner, suspension and carrier bearing. Other than that, it has been the best car I have ever owned. Everyone compliments my car. I keep it looking brand spanking new. Anyone able to get one is lucky since there aren't many around. Fixing this car / maintenance is hella expensive. Especially all the tires I always have to replace. I encourage you to unlock your VIM and install a rear camera if you haven't yet. I own a 2009 G8 GT, I got the car when it was the ripe age of 15 from my cousin, who immediately bought the car back in 09 after he drove my dad's 08 GT. He gave me a great family discount, and a cold air intake to put on it. The car had 140,000 miles, interstate driven daily, bone stock. I put the air intake on, and from that mod forward she's turned into an absolute ripper. I wasn't into cars until I got this one, so I started light with a full audio system overhaul. I slowly got more knowledgeable about cars through CZcams, and When the pandemic hit, I decided to do the DOD delete on my car because I started to get the infamous cold start lifter tick. With CZcams knowledge only, I ripped the engine apart, put it back together with her sweet new cam (texas speed stage 1), got it tuned, and the rest is history. I since then completely overhauled the brake, I put a hydroboost system in it (kinda regret bc of how much it cost me in the end) but she stops beautifully. I got the front bumper and hood repainted, and added some black stripes to the hood. After that I paint corrrected the car and ceramic coated it. I also fully rebuilt the transmission and put a Yank 3200 stall converter in, which leads me to where the car is today. On the dyno she made 415 hp and 445 tq. Absolutely love the car to death, and a wonderful daily driver for an 18 year old. My future plans are to preserve my dads car, since his only has 70,000 miles and is garage kept (mine has never been in a garage), and make mine into a boosted beast, but the bank account has to wait for that! I will make a video on her soon!

My wife and I have a white 09 GT with the sports package, and its been a great car. Im saying this as a Ford guy, and Ford diesel tech. We bought it used 1 owner, in 2012 at 35k, now just under 80k. Previous owner traded it in because the warranty was out by time. Literally like new, always garaged. We dont drive it much, and she definitely sits a lot. Never any problems other than the tpms, and pillow block on the driveshaft.
Need to get it out and some people see it. Like brand new still, head liner, seats, everything, absolutely mint. Lucky to have landed this particular one back then when working at the Ford dealership in moab Utah. Ours always has been garage kept. Still stays in the garage, maybe that helps the headliner. Its perfect still.
We have gotten many offers of up to $25k. Nope. I'm not a chevy guy, but this is one BADASS gm product. Only other sports car that I'd want would be the GT 350R. This is likely more comfortable, roomy and classy, as well as functional for luggage for vacations.
I wont lie, every time we take it out, I'm worried something will happen to it, so we drive our three other replaceable vehicles instead. We know what we have, and we love it to death.
Nice video brother, and nice ride! 😎

The front suspension on my GT was bad enough (especially the strut mounts), that the ride height was the same after installing Monroe GT sport struts and King Spring SL springs! And for you guys with sagging headliners, I recovered mine with fabric from Headliner Doctor- it's a great match to the factory fabric. Don't skimp out on the glue either. Something else to look after, is the 3rd brake light attached to the headliner. Mine liked to flop around a lot, especially with the windows down at highway speeds, to the point of cracking badly. After installing a good used one, I mounted a small aluminum tab on the rear window at the bottom of the light housing to hold it in place. It's just a small piece of flat stock, easily bent in a bench vise, with good 3M body trim tape holding it on.

What year GTP you got? I have a '99 SSEi with an L36 and XP cam, that engine was in 2 or 3 other Grand Prixs throughout the years. Originally came out of a '97 GT I picked up for a grand when I was in the army (maybe 2003'ish), top swapped it when top swapping was just becoming a thing, a guy with an Impala (Lloyd?) was the first person I knew of that did it, lots of fun collecting parts one piece at a time via ebay, Ed Morad, GPForums, etc as I tried to copy his build. That 4T60E in that '97 GT would chirp going into 2nd, maybe the boost had some effect on the vac modulator. Now I have so many 3800 parts in the garage from so much time working on them, I just can't justify not having a car powered by one of them around. While it's been in the bonne, I've kept the 3.5 pulley on and just putt around. Since E85 is 30 cents cheaper than 87, I might just switch it over and see if the stock pump can feed the 60# injectors I have in my toolbox down to a 3.1 pulley, that big old car will be moving pretty good at that point.

Ive just recently started my journey with this car as it is my first project muscle car at 19. I bought my 09 G8 GT six months ago and it had 193k on the clock. It’s now at 205k and the only issues I’ve had with it so far is the headliner(redid with suede), hazard button(pushed in and haven’t messed with since ive got the car), oil pressure switch(fixed), carrier bearing is going out at the moment and the evap solenoid is bad (waiting to have the money to redo my subframe and suspension and will complete at same time). The car has muffler delete, Camaro transmission pan and cold air intake but is still factory untouched. It has been well maintained since before I’ve had it and runs good. Still has the DOD and everything. Dont get me wrong, it still handles like a 200k + car, but I would take it on a 750 mile beach trip with no worries. My plans for it is to completely redo everything in phases. 1st completely redo the suspension and subframe including putting a 3.27 lsd diff in it. Then finding a low mileage 6.2l and a 6l80 out of a Camaro and build them both and throw them in the car. I plan on doing this work all myself and I’m excited to learn about working on cars more in depth and making this car my own.

Great video, mate. Yeah I'm Australian and I own a 2011 Holden VE Commodore which has the same body as yours minus the Pontiac front bumper and the left-hand drive, of course.
I have a bearing type noise barely noticeable unless driving close to a wall to hear the echo. I never thought of the carrier bearing, I'll get my mechanic to check that too. Cheers.
Another issue for perhaps your Florida viewers is the sun fade. I'm in Queensland, Australia and these cars duco fades rapidly. Keep it under cover although it mainly effect the darker colours as I've never seen fade on white or silver Commodores..

@finneygames can you disclose price ? And private or dealer? Stock or mod? That last question is my biggest concern... and the crazy used car market right now. Here are my thoughts and assumptions and maybe cats can reply and confirm or correct me? Thx
      1. So I imagine the available inventory ranges from beat to shit to pristine. What would be your reccomended target for level of modification/add ons considering price and likely owner care given to the car) should I aim for stock? Aim for just to the level of cam upgrade and tuning?) or go for a higher level of modification, get more bang for ur buck if u will?
Price: we are in an unprecedented used bubble right now, due to several unique circumstances alligning (pandemic, inventory scarcity, highest level of cash reserves in 25 yrs, production shut downs for new models ,
Timing of Lease expirations, etc) however we are seeing this taper off after about 5 yrs or more (highest premium is for models in the 2014-2018 range. So these may not be impacted by this. Also, if I have something to trade ur gonna get premium value for it right now depending what it is of course . And I imagine these wouldn’t be a dealers fav car to move. Simply too much for the average driver. But I imagine these stay pretty steady on the private market, which is likely where the majority of acquisitions are made. I would assume price has little volatility in private markets and sells in same range under most market conditions. I dunno still researching of course but wanted to hear from cats that are active in this community, especially recent purchases. Thanks , and be safe (in driving and otherwise )

Engine dropped a valve at 82,000 miles, total engine loss. Got a new engine and got it tuned to remove the DoD which made the car soooo much better to drive in, especially with cat delete long tube headers. Carrier bearing had to be replaced, totally shot, TPMS all died at the exact same week. throttle body position sensor caused the electric gas pedal to get stuck, had to replace pedal and throttle body. Had to settle for a '09 base model because there were no GT and definitely no GXP models here in Massachusetts. It did have a previous owner who was in a driver side front-end accident, but it was rebuilt to the point of not even noticing. They even matched the paint code spot on. I'm only reminded about the accident by the fact that the low beam headlight clamp is different from the original. Came with 86,700 miles. I split this as a daily with my Camry. No real issues as of yet other than the possible Carrier Bearing and the driver power seat control coming off. I waited 11 years for one, and like I said it may not be a GT or GXP but I'm still glad I finally got at least a version of it.
