VOX Tone Tips: MV50 Cab Sim Bypass

The MV50 amps have a built-in cab sim on the line out, allowing you to record direct or play directly into the PA, but if you prefer to use your own impulse responses (IRs) you can easily bypass the cab-sim. Watch as we show how to bypass the internal cab sim and add your own IR in your DAW.

This feature should really be in the instruction manual! It rules. So glad it can do this - as I'm very particular about which cab IR's I use, so to be able to use the vox head sound and my own - was a huge selling point for me.

Good to know, I gave my son the MV50 Clean to play through a 2*12, sounds very nice, with a NUX Plexicrunch it Rocks, WHY, WHY did Vox not add an effects loop on these Amps, really missed a trick.

IMO the clean doesn't need that because it doesn't overdive/distort up to 70% of the amplification spectrum. But for the other MV50s it would absolutely make sense to have an FX loop. But it is very easy to add it: czcams.com/video/2IiKJY0c90o/video.html

I’ve always used a single channel, no effect loop amp - so never needed one

Good to know this,although I wish they had included an actual cab SIM bypass switch and also an effects loop for more flexibility.(I know this would probably increase the price)

Could I use this trick to make the MV50 as a preamp? Going from this line out into the effects loop of another amp, only using the power stage of this other amp?

Vox - please can you clarify something that is being debated about these Amps all over the internet which is about the impedance switch on the back of the Rock and AC (but notably not the Clean). So…the clean doesn’t have an impedance selector, therefore implying the Class D power amp ‘self-selects’ the impedance and is equally happy at any of 4, 8 or 16ohms. Now, unlike the Clean, the AC and Rock have an impedance selector. Some people are reporting that setting this incorrectly risks damaging the amp (as it would in a tube / Class A power amp set up.) Others are saying that there is no risk at all, the class D amp will select the correct impedance, it is really therefore only an EQ switch to ensure it sounds correct out of each type of cab (and the manual eludes to this being the case as well without explicitly stating it). Please could you clarify which is true. Many thanks

Thanks for that tip. I tried it that way and it worked. Then I thought I could use a stereo jack to two mono jacks to have the emulated signal on one mono jack and the signal without speaker emulation on the other. But this is not working. Does anyone knows why?

It does not work because when you introduce the plug all the way, it pushes it so it can make contact with the circuit that enables the cabsim.
