  • When you log into a new computer for the first time or finish a new Windows installation, you will most likely be asked to create a PIN number that you can use to login with rather than your password. You might not even realize that this PIN will be used in place of your password and that might not be what you want.
    Then when you go to remove your PIN, you might find that the Remove button is greyed out, not allowing you to remove it. Fortunately, this is an easy fix and you just need to change the Hello sign in options in the Windows settings. If you are using Windows Professional Edition then you can even use the Group Policy Editor to help fix this problem. This demo shows how to do this with a Microsoft account as well as a local user account and was made with Windows 11 but the procedure works exactly the same for Windows 10.
    Here is how you create a local account in Windows 11 (and Windows 10).

    When I go to the sign in options it doesn't give me the additional settings. How can I delete the annoying pop up asking for the windows security pin. I also have changed my password for the Microsoft account and when I put that in to have the pop up removed it tells me the username and password do not match. Please help what can I do to get rid of this pop up

      There should be a I forgot my PIN option where he can then enter the password for his Microsoft account. And if he forgot that then he should be able to reset that as well.

    Do I have to create a pin to have the option to remove it? I've never entered one and since the last update Windows keeps forcing the pin set-up page that I can't escape from unless I reboot. It is really annoying.

    • @OnlineComputerTips
      @OnlineComputerTips  Před 2 lety +1

      When that happens, sometimes you can fix it by going to the PIN setup and then cancelling it after you click on the set up button and then choose dismiss. You may or may not get that option. You can also try to set one up and then remove it and see if it stops bothering you.

      @elizabelle1967 Před 2 lety +1

      @DrMask If you have a touch screen, under your password login space, see if you have 2 icons. One choice is for touch screen and the other for password. Choose the password icon. That was the problem I had and I hadn't notice it at first, because I was never asked for a pin before. Dunno if it makes sense?

    Ive got a unique problem- so i bought a surface pro and I accidently signed in with the wrong outlook account during the setup. i set up my windows hello face id and password and then realized I didn't want this account on my device. i went to delete that off my device an signed in with a new one and again set up my face id and password. this time it didn't let me set up face id as I had already used my face on another account (which I deleted). now after trying to sign back into the old account and delete my face from windows hello it doesn't show up, and now I'm stuck with two accounts that wont accept my face id coz they're thinking its already being used on another account. i know what i just said may not have made any sense so don't hesitate to ask! anything helps thank you!!

    so how do you do this if the pc is on a domain and there is no local account?

    • @OnlineComputerTips
      @OnlineComputerTips  Před rokem

      Computers on a domain should not have a PIN unless it was specifically setup by the domain admins so if that was the case I would think you would have to be a domain admin to remove it in Group Policy. Plus the Domain Admins group should be part of the Local Admins group so you can log on locally with a domain admin account if needed.
