When I was about 9, I was riding my bike in my neighborhood. It was summer and about to be dark. I found a little girl walking by herself crying. She was about 5. I took her straight to my mom and I reassured her the entire way that it would be okay and we would find her house. My mom called to police and we found her parents who were looking for her. I knew at age 9, to help a young child. These kids were monsters and its sick that they're free.

I remember this case as it happened back in 93. Everyone was glued to the TV hoping for good news that James would be found alive. When the true details came out about the injuries, my Dad, a policeman at the time, said every police station was sent the details and he recalls other police officers crying in the office upon reading it. It was that bad. And some details, to this day, are still secret. I have been to James's resting place and laid flowers, and it was heartbreaking. RIP little one. Xxx

I was the exact age of these 2 boy's when they committed this horrific murder. I can vividly remember standing in the playground of my primary school ( I live in the UK, at that time I was in Scotland), and discussing this with my little friends. And I remember all of us agreeing that we all knew how wrong it would be to take a toddler away from his mummy, in any way, for any reason!! These boy's/men should never be realised, never mind given the protection & anonymity they have! It's not justice, it's disgusting 🤯

I don’t care how old those kids were when they committed this horrible murder, the fact that they were even capable of doing such a thing and then showing little to no remorse means they are NOT fit to be back in society! In my opinion, jail is not a punishment in this case, it is a way to protect others! And now they’re adults and living with new identities? Thank you for covering this case Christina. This happened in my city, Liverpool. I was 6 years old. Our school pulled us into an assembly and warned us not to talk to strange men as it was widely believed that an adult must have kidnapped James. It will haunt me forever that we later found out it was children. My mum was a social worker at a children’s home where one of the boys (Jon venables) was kept overnight whilst undergoing questioning. He did some strange things whilst there for that one night. They have to be protected for life in this entire country for what they did to baby James. I would gladly watch them suffer to this day. It caused chaos to think that children could be capable of the most god awful atrocities. Jon has committed other crimes since, including child p**n found on his PC. Always in and out of prison and was arrested also for reentering Liverpool. Something which both were banished from forever (for their own safety). Thank you for covering this Christina. I know this is very delayed, but thank you so much for covering this story in such a respectful way. I live around 20 minutes from The Strand. It's like a ghost town now, and I was there recently and noticed the butcher shop is now closed. I think its been closed for years now. It's still haunting to walk through there. It sickens me that they could be out there with partners that have no idea of their history. Imagine finding out your boyfriend, or husband, had tortured a little baby to death. Sickening.

The only thing i would add is to try to refrain from showing The Sun newspaper as much as possible. They really upset the people of Liverpool and Merseyside during the Hillsborough disaster. They are horrid.

This is heartbreaking. I have a 3 year old grandson and can't imagine him going thru any of that. Those boys are pure EVIL.

This broke hearts across the UK and changed the way people behaved when out with their kids.

How has it changed people's behavior?
I thought it was illegal to be out in public anyway in the UK because of the tyrannical quarantine/lockdowns.

What I meant was that, when it happened, parents started to be even more vigilant than they had been. There was a fear that hadn't been as palpable prior to James' abduction.
Obviously, behaviour during the recent lockdowns was a different thing altogether. Most parents have been keeping their children at home, but not for the same reasons as in 1993.
