I worked at a restaurant called The Copper Monkey and he would come in to to see me and order the cheese fries, which he loved. I was shocked when I realized he was one of the victims. I used to have nightmares about him being attacked. He was so great. Thank you for asking about him.

Not used to hearing cases I was around for. I was with a small PD in south FLA at the time. I'm 5' 2", was 100lbs, 20 yrs old, with long brown hair. As our shift Sgt was reading the victim similarities I looked up from my notepad to see everyone slowly turning to look at me. (Yes, LE was on that earlier than people think and it was shared statewide.) I was never left alone while on-duty, and since I lived in our jurisdiction, my house had a patrol go by every hour or less when possible. I didn't ask for it. It wasn't directed by leadership. They just did it, every shift, until he caught. That was definitely a hell of a time in FL. May those poor souls be resting in peace.

I used to work with the mom of one of the victims. She actually adopted me as her daughter. She said I reminded her a lot of her daughter. For me, the thought was kinda scary because if I had reminded her of her daughter then I could've easily been a victim myself. It saddens me that these 5 victims lost their lives and that their families had to go through such a horrific situation, but I'm thankful I was still too young to be in College. I will say this though, I did love my coworker. She was a fantastic server and helped me a great deal with personal stuff as well. It just breaks my heart that she had to lose her daughter.
It's not surprising that he developed multiple personalities after his childhood, but why was he not convicted and in prison for shooting his father in the face? I remember this case, didn't know that the movie Scream was based on the case😱

In Gainesville we have a memorial mural on the wall on 34th street. Anytime someone tries to paint over it (it is a graffiti wall for most part), it is instantly fixed by the uf fraternity council. Everyone in Gainesville and at UF knows this case and we work to remember the victims.
I’m so glad that memorial has lasted this long. I remember when it was first painted. And the first time someone tried to paint over it. What an uproar from the student body.
My mom was pregnant with me when this happened. I was born in Gainesville and still live right outside of the town today. I heard about this case all the time growing up. It’s very surprising more people don’t know about it.
I grew up in Gainesville and was 10 when this happened. It was absolutely terrifying.

Danny Rolling is a perfect example of why no one should ever have a child with someone who says they do not want children or pets. I believe no one should ever try to change someone’s mind. Find someone who wants a child and a pet. Please don’t try to play God. Great but tragic video. Thank you.
This is Danny's story that he made in his mind one of his psychological diagnoses is that he is a manipulative person Read Kevin's testimony his father was not violent to him but gave him a long lecture
also listen to his wife's testimony.
His father was good to him paying money and he didn't beat him or threaten him Danny likes to blame others Read his book
He said that his wife cheated on him with her current husband John so he threatened her
That's why he committed crimes, especially armed robbery.

She might've been abused as a child and doesn't realize why she's drawn to someone like that. She sees what he wants her to see. She needs help, that's just not right.

Also, he was putting on a show with his classic “sad clown” eyebrows. When a person is genuinely sad, different muscles are activated, particularly between the eyebrows (called the “grief muscle” sometimes). His “grief” was all a show, in my opinion.

Hey Christina! So it's Dissociative Identity Disorder. Not multiple personality disorder but that's a very common mistake 😅 it also amazes me how many killers have Borderline Personality Disorder. As someone with BPD it's crazy to think how easily my life could have gone the other way but I'm a very gentle person haha I love your stories!!
She did say dissociative personality disorder. Considering people used to call it multiple personality disorder, I'd say she was close enough
Most people with BPD that does bad things, also have other diagnosises. BPD is not dangerous alone (not to anyone but yourself), but in combination with other more severe diagnosises, there is where these killers "rises"
I also have BPD, and a bit tiered to hear people thinking people with BPD are crazy, toxic and dangerous, just because som bad people also has it. Killers might also have depression, but that is not the reason they kill people. I talked to several other "borderlions", and we are terrified about the growing stigma aroung BPD, since is more and more mentioned in true crime.
Wish people would learn to know us instead of thinking we behave like narcissistic people (I've seen that assumption several times already) 😢
We have DID, It's definitely a common mistake, but I'm glad she even mentioned the dissociative part, as most people only know it as MPD (multiple personality disorder). It's very interesting and sad to see the commonality of BPD and similar disorders amongst criminals. We also have BPD and ASD, so this was another shock. Hopefully with time more understanding of disorders will be more common knowledge and us with them won't be marked as "evil" or "psychotic" just because of them. Overall though, love her videos and take on this one!

His mother has a large part in creating the monster that he is. When your parent, especially mother fails in protecting you, that scrambles your brain more than the fatherly abuse. It’s deeply saddening that the victims had to pay for his mothers failures.
Perhaps the mother was afraid of her husband, who donimating. You can't blame the mother when she was in a DV situation.
You do realize his mother was as much of a victim as he was, right? A woman TODAY has few resources to leave a DV situation… a woman in the seventies would’ve had even fewer places to get help. ESPECIALLY when the abuser wears a badge.
He made those choices, not his mom.
I think the dad was more to blame than the mom.
One of my oldest friend's grandmother (who is still alive but has dementia) was very close to the mom. She says the whole family was crazy. Claudia tried to kill herself a few times.

I survived childhood abuse (of every kind) at the hands of my bio dad & I swore to myself that the cycle would end with me. I can see how someone can snap, BUT it doesn't make it right. I'm an empathetic person to most people, but these are monsters.
@@Blue-hf7xt true. But as an abused child and then adult...It is hard to leave and you live in fear of your own life. However, when my son was 4 to 5 I was in an abusive relationship and I found a way to leave. It's been over 6 years and I still look over my shoulder, but my son is getting help for the abuse and SA he witnessed and we are safe and he has the kindest heart, despite it all. But resources for women didn't exist back then, the way they do now. It's hard to know when you aren't there. BUT I do blame the mother a lot for this too.

I think that Danny was totally effected by his father and perhaps resented his mother for not protecting him. The fact that the women all looked like his mother is very Freudian to say the least, but leaving them in positions that were so degrading and only for shock factor means that he was also totally aware of the horror he was creating. I think he may have been a sociopath or psychopath because he showed no remorse or any type of compassion for anyone he killed. He is all manipulation and evil.

It sounds like he really resented his mom because she did nothing to protect him from his father, maybe that's why he chose girls that resembled her. When she was admitted to the hospital for trying to take her own life, he probably felt like she was abandoning him, leaving him with even more resentment. Such a sad sad situation. Much love to the victims' families.

my fiances mom /my daughter's grandma was a nursing student at U.F during this time...she still lives in Gainesville now and teaches here but she was there during all of this and said how scary it was..everyone was so afraid to leave their dorms etc! Great job, yet again Christina 🙂☝️

My parents live in Gainesville. Back in 1999, while I was in Gainesville, I read the book and went to the crime scenes. While I enjoy true crime and trying to understand how the human brain works I cried at the scenes and said a prayer for the families. So sad.
I truly appreciate you included so much detail of his background. His childhood explained everything. He had to turn himself into a monster in order to survive his childhood. Sadly, the monster couldn't tell he is no longer in danger and continued raging against the world. But then, does anyone really feel safe nowadays?
The woman that worked at the police dept. that he killed, after he decapitated her, he placed her body in a sexual position on the bed and then placed her head on the dresser in front of her body lying on the bed so that she could “look at herself”. … (according to another video I saw of this)

It was at the back of a building on the ground floor, overlooking beautiful lawns and a pond. I was so tempted but all I could think about was Russel Williams sneaking around and I turned it down. I’ve been waiting for someone to do this story some justice! As and ACR (Alachua County Resident), born and raised, I always want this story covered. My father worked night shift during this time. My poor momma would stay up all night because of the fear. My husbands parents (both students at the time), bought the very last shotgun Walmart had to sell. This is one that makes even your home an unsafe place. His mind is bizarre to put it mildly. You did a fabulous job, and thank you so much for bringing attention to this horrific case.

I heard about this guy and it was crazy what he did. He also got into a huge argument with his dad, his dad grabbed his gun to use it to scare Danny out of his house, so Danny went into his car and grabbed his gun, he came back into his dad's house and he shot his dad in the face and left. His dad survived and that's how they know this happened

You are ABSOLUTELY CORRECT (as usual!) about our share of Florida Weirdos but you are also right about our state being more open than say ...... California , maybe 😏. It really does make it seem like more but it's partly because we RELEASE INFORMATION TO THE PUBLIC..... it's so sad every state doesn't! 😔🤬

My whole family moved to Miami, Florida in 1979. I totally remember this story in 1990. He was called The Gainesville Murderer back then.
Now hearing the background on this guy, do you think that maybe the reason the father flipped out when he heard his wife was pregnant is because insanity runs in his family? Who knows, maybe the agreement was that they were never to raise a family but the wife didn't listen. 🤷♀
I wonder how the wife would've went about impregnating herself!? What a backstabber.

Highly doubt he was possessed. He was very mentally ill and had very bad trauma from his childhood, so that twisted him (plus he may or may not had been just evil, too)
He said that he felt like an evil would take him over. He couldn't control himself until the action was fully over then he would feel horrible. Idk if I believe that...

Oh yeah, I remember these tragic events, like it was yesterday!
I lived very close to Gainesville at the time and had to go to a Drs office there, a few times a month.
I was on high alert until they caught that POS.
It was a very, very sad time for these students, as well for their families and friends.
