Listening to Damiens dad really brought back memories for me. How many ways can the bible warn people that the devil hides in plain sight, and yet they still judge those who look different? I grew up in a very conservative religious community in FL and I can honestly say some of the cruelest people I ever knew went to the same church as me. I love Jesus, but I can't stand religion most of the time.

Right about that! Reminded me of being young and learning about "conservatives" and "liberals" and it never made sense to me that "conservatives" were considered the religious ones, but at the same time were often not accepting of others and often judged others. I always believed the 'liberals' were more 'christian - like' in the sense that most truly believe and practice 'love thy neighbor' regardless of who they are or what they stand for. I just always thought it seemed backwards, and I agree sometimes the most ungodly people can be sitting among you in church...like the saying 'Being Christan is not about going to church and going to church doesn't make us Christian' I guess it can make a good front sometimes

I’ve been waiting for this one. Born and raised in West Memphis, and actually lived in a house on the street that was right in front of the wooded area that the boys were found in. I was 5 years old and mainly just remember parents freaking out- we weren’t allowed to play in the neighborhood anymore- weren’t allowed to walk home from school anymore - even though the school was only 3 blocks from my house. It was just a parent’s worst nightmare. And I can tell all of you guys that the effect that this case had on this town is still very much felt today. Everyone has an opinion, theory, etc. I also want to point out how damaging the whole “satanic panic” thing was back in the 80’s/90’s- ESPECIALLY here in the south. The overwhelming theme back then was very heavily religious- mostly southern Baptist -but there is seriously a church on almost every corner. It can be a really toxic environment if you don’t fit into their “Christian” box.

A dear friend of mine served on the jury of Damien Echols' trial.
It really took a toll on her mentally.
I lived in Southaven, MS at the time of these murders. It's a suburb of Memphis, TN right outside of West Memphis, Arkansas. I will admit that I initially was very adamant that the "West Memphis Three" were 💯 guilty. As more and more came out though through the years I started to rethink this whole case as I'm sure many of us have.
Today I feel confident in saying that those 3 men are completely innocent, but it breaks my heart and haunts my soul to no end that those poor boys STILL have had no justice. And we may never know here on Earth who is guilty of this horrific crime, (I do agree that a lot was covered up intentionally and the boys knew their killer or killers) but one thing's for sure...the good Lord above knows and the day will come that they will meet their Maker. There is a special place in hell for them too.

Last January the news came out and said Damien is working to get evidence tested, but the state isn't allowing his team to do so. It's also kind of bizarre that the West Memphis police chief resigned the same week this new evidence was discovered. The city said his resignation had nothing to do with the case.... @phillipcarter7335 Před rokem +48

Something that wasn't mentioned here, which is possibly the single most important piece of evidence aside from the DNA, the "certain body part" mutilation. This is reffering to horrific damage to one of the young boys genitals. This was the reason the case was deemed to be "satanic" in nature. It was later noted that the river the boys were found in, was known to have a healthy population of turtles. Not just any turtles, snapping turtles. When the "mutilation" was compared to the impressions left by bite marks of this species of turtle, it was deemed to be the most likely and reasonable cause of the post mortum damage done to the boy. So, the "smoking gun" linking a satanic killing, to satanic people, never even happened. It was never true. Quite frankly, if you take the time to research these bite marks, you will find it would have always been pretty easy to make that determination if you had been aware of the presence of predatory turtles. You can clearly see two parallel cuts, thay taper down to the pointed shape of a turtles beak. Also, another thing left out here, is that many celebrities in the metal/rock genre stood behind these boys. The notion that liking Slayer or Metallica meant you were evil has been present far longer than this case, artists were appalled by this "sentiment", if that's what you'd like to call it.

Holy shit this made me actually cry. I believe the boys are innocent. Reminds me of the case that was made into a short series called "when they see us" about 5 teen boys being wrongfully accused in the 90s. They got out just like these boys did, but then still had their criminal records. Finally thankfully the real rapist actually confessed, and DNA evidence confirmed it was him, and the now men got their charges wiped clean. But they lost half their lives for nothing, too. Those cases make my heart hurt. And when I look at the photos of these 3 teens, and watch the videos of the trial, they seem so kind souled. I have wiccan friends and they are the nicest and kindest people in the world (obviously not all wiccans are like this, people are people some are good some are bad, but I'm just saying, you aren't evil just because you believe in a certain spiritual realm). Ugh I hope that they can be finally found not guilty one day. Maybe I am wrong, but I feel in my bones they are innocent, and that makes me so sad for them and their families. 6 young lives lost for nothing.

I was born and raised and still live in Arkansas. I'm about 2 hours from West Memphis. This case was so inflammatory. Those watching the case unfold, like myself, were constantly scratching their heads at it. Reasonable people could see that the evidence was mostly circumstantial. The whole case was weighed on Miskellies' "confession" (and that was what it was called at the time) that didn't seem to line up with the "facts" the prosecution was presenting. There was enough in that confession, and his testimony, that would make any sane person say, "hol' up". At first it seemed that Eckels fit the part and adored riling the media up with his antics. Then it got serious. At that point, you just begin to wonder if it isn't scapegoating the weird kids. Later, in all honesty, when they came up with that Alford Plea, the first time many of us had ever heard of it, we wondered why they didn't go all in on a retrial. We don't have much respect for the court system in West Memphis anymore.
Also, it's not really a small town. It's like overflow from Memphis. They got racetracks and lots of businesses, and really bad traffic. It's been that way since the 80's. Sure it's grown since then, but we would have called it a city.

ALL the victims meaning the boys dead, their families, the boys now men that were accused and their families. This case has a way of sucking you in. 1st you can’t believe how it happened as well as the outcome. I don’t believe they will ever get honest answers. Stevie's mom said that her son ALWAYS had his pocket knife ON HIM.
So she was shocked to find it among Terry Hobbs' (Stevie's stepdad's) knife collection years later.
She asked him, 'how could you have it...it woulda been on him' (Stevie).
At first he claimed he didn't even know he had it...but he eventually changed his story and claimed that he'd 'confiscated' the pocket knife before the boys went missing. But he could never give her a justifiable reason as to why he woulda needed to do so.
She said that was a major red flag for her...that as soon as she found it...she was convinced in her heart that it was Terry.
Plus...they found one of Terry's hairs in one of the shoelaces that tied the boys up.
I hope that, 30 yrs after those boys were murdered, law enforcement will finally stop protecting the killer(s) and start doing there job

They didn't like the Hesher kids ( that's what we use to call Heavy metal , weed smoking , out casts , and I'm from Los Angeles ) ... they wanted to make everyone feel safe and to look like heroes so they targeted these teens as the villains and went after the weakest of them to get that false confession. And I say “Bible thumpers” to refer to the type of Christians who use Christianity as a weapon. Just like they did on those innocent boys. They clearly don’t even care about the victims bc they aren’t even bothered enough to open the case back up. It wasn’t about justice. It was about discriminating and throwing away the “alternative kids”. It’s sickening that they took 20 years away from innocent teenagers and since they can’t blame it on Devil worshippers they don’t seem to care who killed those children.

It makes me so mad that these three boys were brutally murdered and another three boys were wrongfully accused while the real killer or killers watched from afar thinking he got away with it. So sick.

I've heard of this case but surprisingly I didn't know the details. I know a lot of true crime but I didn't know this one. Good grief I cried when the boys were found in the condition they were in. I CAN NOT IMAGINE. I have a 9 yo as you know Christina and that one hits me in the ❤️. But these cases need to be told so we remember them. On that note thank you for your research Christina,❤️🙂have a great weekend friend!!

I'm from the area and this case is the case that got me into true crime. I've followed it from the time I was 12 years old and I'm 41 now. I'm so glad Damien, Jason and Jesse are free BUT true justice has not and likely will not ever be served.

I hope they get these charges off of them because that is totally ridiculous to release them and force them to bear a burden of guilt that they never were supposed to carry. It’s awful.
