- Ryan O'Neal, best known for his Oscar-nominated role in 1970's 'Love Story,' has died. According to his son, O'Neal died peacefully on Friday. O'Neal also starred in 1973's 'Paper Moon' alongside his daughter, actress Tatum O'Neal, and the two had a tumultuous relationship in the years that followed. He's also dad to son Redmond, whom he shared with his longtime partner Farrah Fawcett. He was 82 years old.
My sincerest condolences to Ryan's family and friends. I loved him in "Love Story". It's so sad to see our childhood icons move on to another plane. Rest in peace 💔
Very dramatic and the quote was used in What’s Up, Doc? a Romantic Comedy
Plane lol not plain😂😂
R.I P. , Ryan, and thsbks for the great memories.
Loved him in "Paper Moon", "What's Up Doc", "Driver", and "Love Story".
Though he was miscast, I think the greatest film in which he performed was Stanley Kubrick's 1975 Thackeray adaptation 'Barry Lyndon'.
I still remember sitting in the movie theater and sobbing - along with a lot of other teenage girls in the audience. Love Story something about the music, film locations, and cast that were timeless.
Condolences to Ryan’s family, especially Tatum and Redmond….. He was a very good actor and will be missed.
I was only 3 when it came out, but I saw it on cable in 2003, as well .as the sequel with Can dance Bergen. The soundtrack is timeless! I hope his kids were at his bedside, and made peace with him. I am sure he had multiple regrets over being a lousy dad. But I know he loved his kids.
I read the book in high school and cried my eyes out, the movie really tore me up.
Yes 👍🏽 I cried too…thank you for your comment. 😢❤
Done well to reach 82yrs. RIP. We all have our struggles to deal with. No one is perfect. Papermoon is timeless classic!
Love that "Paper Moon" was filmed in black and white it gives the film an "extra something".
His best work, and yes, timeless classic!!
I remember him as Rodney Harrington of Peyton Place
Jesus Christ is Perfect!!
I always admired him as an actor. It’s a shame he wasn’t a very good father. His children really suffered because of it. I hope they can put it behind them and heal now.
Wow I can’t believe he was 82 where does the time go. RIP.
Wow! 82 Years Old! I loved his movie Love Story!!! RIP Ryan!!!
I'm glad Ryan and Tatum got to take that photo together after so many years, everything came full circle after the drama in their lives, RIP Ryan.
I agree. Having a fractured family makes it difficult to say I Love You, sometimes just being in the same room smiling at each other begins the process of healing. Not every family is comfortable with each other, their lives were constantly in the limelight, prayers sent to those in the O’Neal family circle.🙏🏼
that photo wasn't real he could never love her as a Daddy should he only used her for sympathy I do feel for her because she despite years of being walked all over by him she probably does grieve him right now
@@aprilgosa5779 not only the photo is real, they have another one from back in April where it's just the two of them for his birthday, and Tatum shared it herself on her Instagram, with a birthday wish and an "I love you". Unless you know her personally, and i mean a close relationship, you're just stating your own opinion. I'd be glad if they were on good terms before Ryan's passing, not necessarily as a favor to him, but for her sake.
@@Ciclopea2…for her sake to feel a tiny bit of closure, yes, you are accurate. I agree with what you said.
@@I_Love_Furbabies exactly, thank you.
RIP Mr. O'Neal. Thank you for all your great movies! ❤
I loved the movie Love Story. It was one of the biggest films in the 70’s. RIP Ryan.
Hopefully Tatum finally gets to heal. For most people who had toxic parents, after they die, they get to finally close that chapter and retrieve their lives. I really REALLY hope Tatum soars and is finally at peace, free from all that toxicity ♥️
I was just thinking about her the other day. I hope she's healed. She's had such a tough life.
And married to McEnroe was her abusive father 2.0. Heartbreaking 💔
Those kids didn't help them ! Get real people
Hello, your words of compassion for Tatum are heartwarming .... please allow me to say that I am also comforted by them because I as well had a vicious, toxic father who, by the grace of God, suddenly died at age 43 of a major coronary when I was a teen. His death was a blessing as my healing process immediately began when his coffin was lowered into the grave and I knew he would NEVER come back from there ...... I pray that Tatum's healing process can begin and let her be at peace forevermore, so well deserved as well ... ... Blessings... Thank you for reading ......
@@geramerix2753I’m glad you were able to heal.
I've lost count of how many times I've watched Paper Moon thanks in part to this wonderfully talented actor. RIP Ryan O'Neal.
It is a classic film, it never gets old.
It is, absolutely, a classic for the ages.@@dragonfly6908
Love means saying you're sorry with a willing and humble heart.
He was very handsome and good actor R.I.P Ryan . Condolences to his family and friends.
So sad . Rip Ryan. Was a great actor. Condolences to his children and grand kids .

Good actor rest in peace.
I don't think he knew his grandkids did he

I feel so sad for his children - My condolences for all the grieving they have gone through. ❤
They don’t care trust me
@@SherrylandNC To be fair, he's been a major douche bag to his family many times over.
He was an abusive, neglectful father and husband who regularly brutalized his wives and deeply damaged his children. No doubt they have cvery complicated feelings about his passing.
@@bowtoyoursensei554 - I meant all the grieving, their entire life / And all they have gone through.
@@SherrylandNC You still grieve - for everything you wish you had in a parent.
I remember seeing Ryan O'Neal, Ed Nelson, Barbara Parkins, Dorothy Malone, for the first time in the TV series Peyton Place in the mid 1960's. Since then he has done movies and interviews. He was a great actor in Love Story, Paper Moon, and What's up Doc. He will be missed.
I would like to give my condolences to the family of Ryan O'Neal ,he was an outstanding Actor.I did not see every movie that he made but I seen a number of them.RIP Mr O'Neal.
Hope his kids heal ❤
Another GREAT actor gone to the BIG screen in the sky! You will be missed Ryan.
now I hope Redmond can finally begin to heal and also Tatum. so many horrible stories, his beating up Griffin and so many horrific stories of the abuse. poor Redmond too. I pray for THEIR healing. God bless these kids...............
I loved him in Paper Moon. RIP to a talented actor and condolences to his family.
Condolences to Ryan’s family, especially Tatum and Redmond…..
He was a very good actor and will be missed.
He was a one trick pony and a vile human being.
@@samscarletta7433In your opinion. I don't share that opinion.
Yes, he was a troubled man, but he was loved by many people in his life, and they will be hurting right now. I enjoyed several of Ryan's movies, especially "What's Up Doc?", and I really liked him as Temperance Brennan's father on the TV show "Bones".
At least he's with Farrah now.

@@louisejohnson6057 recommend reading Tatum's book "A Paper Life" (2004), it explains a lot about her parents, along with the choices she made through out her adulthood.
So sad to hear this today. I’ll never forget him in Love Story 1970. I cried and cried as did everyone, and l think l must have watched it every decade since. I still have the DVD. RIP Ryan.
I worked on a movie with him as a crew member. He was nothing but professional wanting to do his best performance....like he wanted the glory of Love Story. I felt sorry for him on many levels noticing how hard he was on himself after a take second guessing himself and genuinely trying to give his best performance REST IN Peace, Ryan.
Interesting. I always wondered if his abuse stemmed from being abused himself. Sounds like that is a strong possibility. Very sad😢
Oy...... it's Rest in Peace, as in no more anguish, not piece, like a piece of pie.
@@dariahughes5564 Piss off DUDE ..very sad you have nothing better to do but become a self appointed spelling police
Wow! Ryan was always a favorite.Paper Moon was a tour de force with his daughter Tatum. The two were throughly delightful. His famous role with Ali McGraw made both of them icons.
RIP Ryan you're with Farrah now❤❤❤❤❤❤
What's Up Doc? with Barbra Streisand was good too. RIP
He abused her brutally and they were estranged for years. He was only "good" to her when she was on her deathbed, and that was out of guilt for all the abuse. Don't romanticize that toxic relationship.
Farrah has seen the light! I'm sure she doesn't want anything to do with him.
He lost himself along the way. It's unfortunate he left behind a legacy of abuse.... Hope his family can heal now.
He was diagnosed with the same type of Leukemia as my brother ( in 2001). in same week. Ryan was to old for a transplant and agree to an experiment drug. My brother had a transplant and live 6 weeks afterward. Ryan has live all the years. Ryan contribute a lot by agreeing to the experiment drugs and treatment.
Aside from him as a father and person, I think he was a fabulous actor and he made wonderful movies. My heart goes out to poor Tatum. I hope she found some kind of closure with her father.
I hope he made peace with Griffin and Redmond as well. I am not sure about Patrick. You never hear much about him. His mom always spoke nicely about her ex.
Thank you, especially for Love Story. RIP, Ryan. 🌹
None of us commenting here know the whole entire story of family issues. I just know I enjoyed his acting and his good looks. His private life should be just that ~ private. RIP Ryan O'Neal.
And again, today, I'm so very saddened to learn that another iconic talent from my youth has left us. No matter how many movies Mr. O'Neil made thereafter, nor how his personal life made more headlines than his screenwork, he will always be the preppy, handsome Oliver to his tragic love, Jenny, in "Love Story"; the movie that saw 13 year old "me" and my friends weeping amongst grown men and women when it was first released so very many years ago. May he now be reunited with his "other" tragic love, Farrah. R.I.P. "Ollie"...
And his 1st wife Joanna Moore. I hope he apologizes to them in heaven.
I remember Ryan O’Neal from Peyton Place. We had to rush home if we were out, so my mother and sister could watch it. He was a great actor in a lot of movies.
Rip, I hope the family worked out their issues before his passing. That reality, that we're all going to die one day, is what keeps me sane and not losing it on certain members of my family.
How painful for Tatum he was an abusive Narcissist and poisoned many … Heartbreaking 💔
refreshingly honest of you 👍
That's between him and her and not really anyone else's business.
I'm sure you're a perfect person !
@@ahill4642 Nice ad hominem/strawman combo you did there.
Ryan was a first time father at the young age of 22 so it must have been overwhelming and maybe he was not ready.

The role that I remember him from and the only role is Love Story. He was a good actor and I'm sure a good father. Condolences to his loved ones. RIP Ryan O'Neal.🙏
Have been watching love story so many time and its music is still resoning somewhere somehow. Beautiful time.
He sure felt love with farrah and i guess thats what really matters in our life, to love and to be loved. Rip
...........
Farrah has seen the light! I'm sure she doesn't want anything to do with him.
My favorite movie with him was Love Story I’ve watched it a few times and always cry, and Papermoon was my second fav, Ryan will be truly missed. Praying that God comforts the families hearts in this sad time of loss and praying Tatum has forgiven her father for whatever reasons she held for so long. Life is too short to hold a grudge just let it go and you will find peace within yourself to love again.
Rip Ryan you were an icon ❤
If you haven't seen it, watch Chances Are with Cybil Shepard, Robert Downey Jr. and Mary Stuart Masterson. It's an underappreciated classic! Great acting!
I liked that movie too
My Condolences to all the family and to his children. R.I.P. Ryan O'neal
death comes at any time for anyone we have to be prepared, for our final hour we are immortal only the body dies the soul lives forever, I hope he finds peace.
We know the body dies. We don't know the soul lives forever, we can't even agree on what "soul" means.
@@wfemp_4730 According to him, soul is the incarnated spirit, and spirit is the disembodied soul. For Kardec, therefore, the two words have the same meaning, with differences only in moment and place, that is, in time and space!!
He destroyed so many peoples (especially women and childrens) lives. The world is rife with these types of "men". It was very compassionate and giving of Tatum to have anything to do with him, I hope this helps her in some way, my heart goes out to her and his other family members he has damaged throughout his life.
What r u referring to
What do you know if him privately?
Death is always sad...sometimes a welcomed release but sad. My love goes out to his family. Rest in peace Ryan.
Rip Ryan Patrick Charles O'Neal, you will be missed
No he won't.
missed by whom ? what an appalling human being
Just out of curiosity how many times have you even thought about him in the last 20 years?
@@imjusthereforthecomments4920Exactly 👍
I always wished I could chat with Tatum about her dad. It's tough to have a parent that's an alcoholic and is emotionally distant from you, especially when he divorces your mother, and you feel like you've been replaced. Despite all of that, I hope in the end they were able to mend their relationship-not just for his sake but for hers as well. Carrie Fischer once quoted her famous mother saying, "Resentment is like taking poison and expecting the other person to die." My wish for them both is that they forgave each other for whatever and were able to say, "I love you." before it was too late.
That's why Christianity stresses the need for forgiveness.
Tatum has recently suffered a debilitating stroke due to her use of drugs & alcohol! I hope she’s ok!
@@cynthiagonzalez658I’m an atheist & I have forgiven many many people along the way! I’m close to the end of my journey so holding on to bitterness was never an option for me!

Hating others only harms the hater. It's like a malignant cancer that eats you up inside.
The object of the hatred isn't even aware.
I know he had a lot of disfunction in his family, so hopefully some things got resolved with his kids. This has got to be hard for them regardless. So sad.😢

He will be missed by all a great actor and family man God Bless ans Rip.
You forgot to mention that he was first known as one of the biggest male movie stars of the 70s. He was the top box office draw in 1973. He stared in some of the biggest films of the 70s.
Yes he was a massive star.
The very underrated Walter Hill 1978 film “The Driver” with Bruce Dern, is what I will always remember him for.c
One of my favorite movies.
Rest easy man.
I always liked Ryan O'Neal as an actor in the roles I saw him in. He was especially good as the con man in Paper Moon, and also in, Love Story, What's Up Doc, Barry Lyndon, and The Main Event. He was a very good versatile actor and even had way of portraying comedy in the characters he played. He's reunited with Farrah now. RIP.
Farrah has seen the light! I'm sure she doesn't want anything to do with him.
Ryan was the greatest actor i've ever discovered. His characters inspire me, and his performances are absolutely excellent!!
Great actor. My prayers go out to his family
I feel bad for the kids who probably still mourn him even though he treated them like absolute Poop Tatum who desperately tried to win his love and approval but hard as she tried and as good as she tried to be to him he would never give her love back that she deserved because he was a Narcissistic AH!
If you have never seen Paper Moon, with him and Tatum, watch it! One of my all time favorites.
My prayers and condolences to the family r.i.p. Ryan ❤
Heartbroken. Sending prayers and condolences to the entire family and friends. Ryan was an amazing Actor. Rest in peace Ryan🙏
RIP-Ryan 🙏🏼❤️
If you didn't do right by your own children, it doesn't matter much what else you did in life!
May his children heal from the ENORMOUS psychological abuse he bestowed upon them and crippled them with!!
In 2007 he shot at his son Griffin (Farrah was his mom, and he was into drugs for years), because the son was attacking him with a fireplace poker. Luckily for both, he missed. Enormous psychological abuse is an understatement.
People who are not capable of showing and giving love should never have children. The children are the ones who suffer from such incompetence.
Ryan O'Neal became a first time father at the young age of 22 so it must have been pretty overwhelming and maybe he was not ready.
@@dragonfly6908that’s no excuse for the abuse.
@@dragonfly6908 Just because you're "not ready", is no excuse to mistreat your kids!
He severely abused them mentally and verbally, left them for days on end alone (with no mother in sight either), had Tatum and her brother eating out of trash cans to survive while he's partying in Hollywood with his lover, was jealous of Tatum's Oscar, and was more concerned about himself than his kids.
This has nothing to do with age. This has to do with being a narcissist.
So sad to hear of his passing. Loved him and Farrah together. They are together in heaven. Bless the family. ❤❤

None of us is perfect, remember that. RIP Ryan O'Neal. Don't speak Ill of the Dead.
Most of us don’t try sleep with our children
Most of us don't knock our kid's teeth out or break up a Friend's Marriage.
Most of us don't shoot at our kids. Most of us don't enable drug use for our kids.
Some of us are more perfect than others. He was a tortured soul, no doubt, but the "nobody's perfect" excuse doesn't make up for the very real and severe damage he did to innocent human beings while he was alive.
