    I have a 1980 AS200. From what I’m hearing the super 58’s are warmer than the super 70’s. No complaints though. Great playing. Port Alberni Canada .

    Hello! I am considering purchasing a new AS200. Are they identical in size to an ES-335? They appear to be very close in size.

    As much as I hate to admit it, this guitar sounds better than my 335🤔. Would love to find one of these at a good used price.

    I have the 1981 model I bought from my lead guitarist, it has Schaller tuners which hold it in time better. I play bassoon stage but love my lead guitars to practice my scales for bass patterns. Aug wielder sehen

    (meine ist übrigens vom April 1980)

    No doubt the early 80s Ibanez Artist guitars are out-standing world class instruments. Another very good semi-acoustic 335 style Ibanez is the LR 10 Lee Ritenour model.

    Thanks so much for comparing these and comfirming my suspicions on tone even with two very similar models. I did as much research as I could before purchasing a 1980 AS200 and I feel very lucky as it sounds & feels better than all but one or two Gibsons I've played since I started playing in the early eighties. Something I had hoped you included was some discussion on the small black switch included on both of those AS200's. On mine I hear a very prominent bass boost to the neck PU in the forward position, but very little difference in the other two position for either pickup. Not sure if mine is working correctly. Any thoughts/experience?

    • @mymixture965
      @mymixture965  Před rokem

      the switch sets the front pickup in parallel, single coil split or regular hum bucker.

    Is there a difference in the pots? My 1981 AS-50 came with 250k pots from the factory and really gave a it a dark tone. I switched to 500k and it really brightened it up.

      +Pedro Henrique Brandão
      Hi Pedro
      as I don´t know your playing, this is a difficult question. There is this saying "you are what you practice" so maybe don´t play scales just up and down, play them in all the intervals, in triards ....What I did a lot is to write my own solos, to find my own style of playing. For me, improvisation is fast composition, if I can´t do it fast (improvise) I do it slow first (composing). I never play my own solos, it is just about the process. I compose a solo, I learn to play it and then I alow myself to forget it and do it agin and again and again. Transcribe yourself and you don´t sound like other players, that´s the fun in Jazz for me.
      Hope that helped
      cheers
      Wolfgang

    .... ich habe da auch noch eine '68er 335, die m.E. hervorragend dynamisch, holzig und offen klingt - aber das Handling mit dem dünnen und schmalen Hals bringt mich dann doch immer wieder zur Heritage zurück....

      peterhoffmann13 Lustig, ich hatte in den 90ern eine ES335 von 1968, umgerüstet auf stoptail, aber ich habe die Gitarre wieder verkauft. Der, an den ich die Gitarre verkauft habe, hat sich vor 2 Jahren bei mir Stunden genommen und so konnte ich die Gitarre wieder probieren, ich habe den Verkauf nicht bereut....die war nix.

    Do you know what the radius of the 82 fretboard is? all of the documentation online says it is a 12" but when I measure my 82 it has a 9.5" radius. Love your videos btw.

    Are the vintage 80's models the ones to have, compared to new Prestige models? Or, are they not that much different?

    • @mymixture965
      @mymixture965  Před 3 lety +2

      Right, I think the early 80´s are better

    • @brandonlewisguitar
      @brandonlewisguitar Před 2 lety

      There’s a big difference. The fujigen guitar makers from that era were world class. You have to play one to know what I’m saying. The super58 pickups from the early 80s are also very desirable. Unfortunately some time in the late 80s Ibanez changed the wiring of the super58s. So the AS200 1981-1985 are probably the best to search for. Good luck.

    So I’m at a crossroads with my 1981 As-200.
    I owned a Am-100 with the classic 58s and loved them. My 200 has the 70s and they just don’t capture his good it sounds acoustically. Do you have 58s or 70s

      Yes, I tried one but did not like it that much. I don´t know the exact differences, maybe it was just a bad one. I know a guitar player who played his AS80 for many years and liked it very much.

      Wolfgang Pointner ok, was just wondering. I have a 335 and your as200 sounds Vetter to my ears than my 335.

    • @mymixture965
      @mymixture965  Před 6 lety +2

      I think the main reason is that the AS200 has much hotter pickups, from my experience the 335 has lower output pickups. They make the sound of the 335 more open, just a different concept, not better ore worse
