Looks like full size guitar to me, however for the first time I played a Vedelah (V 1 D ) a couple of days ago. It had the most beautiful tone and sustain of any guitar I've ever played.
Nice chops!
Thanks for this great review - very useful and very appreciated. Great playing, as well. No hype - no bs - just good old fashioned opinion with some great playing - hope you do more. Cheers! BTW I love the pickups - I put them in my tele and they do exactly what you said - like you I have another tele with the "tele" pickups in and they have that classic tele sound - but these are very very versatile - more mids as you said and more output and more versatile - I love them - thanks!
Thank you for these kind words!
I have AS-200 1982, overall amazing guitar, but rotting binding drives me crazy 😂
Wonderful playing, nice video! If that neck pickup is original and made in the 1950s then there’s no wax in it, probably part of the reason why it sounds so good! I'm happy to see that such a nice instrument made it's way into the hands of a fine musician!
Thank you for your kind words. I think you are absolutely right about the front pickup. I don't want to put it apart but I am sure there is next to no wax left.
You're welcome! I wouldn't want to take it apart, either! As far as I know Gibson didn't start wax potting their pickups until much later, so there might not have ever been any wax in that one
@@dvkerner96 As you mention this it appeared to me I heard that before, yes, the early one are not waxed. That makes me even more sure that's one reason why they sound so different.
Superb playing Wolfgang. I put the same pickups in my Tele and love the sound.
Hello! hope you're doing fine. I've a question if you can answer I'll be really happy. What amp were you using in this video and that pickup are similar to a Gibson 57' classic?. Thanks for the video and real amazing pure sound I really like it and I hope you can help me a bit, Thanks!!
Hi, the amp was a Mesa Boogie 5:50, to me the Lindy Frail sound a bit warmer than the Gibson.
Gefällt mir.
Do you know what the radius of the 82 fretboard is? all of the documentation online says it is a 12" but when I measure my 82 it has a 9.5" radius. Love your videos btw.
I can't measure that, but my guess is 9,5, happy you like my stuff👍
Great band...
Great playing and demo Wolfgang. A bit loud to really get the subtle tones, but very helpful to me. Thank you.
Bad move. The originals sound better. Try PRS 58/15LT's they're incredible!
It is all about taste, I am still happy with my decision.
Great. And you’re right about the fender pick ups The fralins. Make it nite and day. What’s funny. I sold. The fender eBay. And paid for the fralins. I could nt believe how fast they sold. Why would anybody buy those. When they could get fralins. And sound 10 times better. The fender were dull. .
Wow
For solo playing the KA or something similiar could be better. I like the 57 in this instance better.
This is really good information and helpful demo. I will do it on my 403.
Keep shining!
Japanese blue Notes made from second generation tapes
I know, but that is not the reason if they sound good or bad. Japanese Blue Notes, specially the King versions, sound fantastic. My Blue Train King pressing sounds better than the new Tone Poet versions. I made so many comparisons as I have about 50 Blue Note originals too. If anybody tells you, Japanese reissues are poor they just repeat what everybody says, make your own comparisons. I am a musician all my live, I made records, played on them, a second generation tape means nothing and even a digital file can sound great if it is done right, wich is mostly the problem with digital. And the biggest advantage of Japanese blue Notes is the vinyl quality, when the needle drops you heare nothing, no noise, to me this is a big bonus. Also don't believe Japanese pressing have no bass, only the later Toshiba ones have lesser bass, the early Toshiba and the King have tones of bass, maybe that rumor is true for Japanese rock and Pop stuff, but then I have some in this style too and they have as much bass as other pressings.
Can I please have this guitar ? I am musician who don’t own a lot of guitars . This one is by far my favorite . If you ever get tired or want to donate please Look me up . Il ask you again in future years to come .
Not for sale, sorry :-).....and it would be expensive too.
Great video Wolfgang. I have encountered all eight. And it is always a struggle to make sure one is not becoming one (or more) of those! "Period guys" also roam the grasslands of heavy metal in vast herds.
Killer playing man! I have a Hollowbody I PRS that I just ordered some Fralins for based off this video! What string gauge are you using here? 11's? Thanks man!
Thanks man!, strings are 11´s.
you sure know your chords, those pickups sound really great
Love your playing
Thanks man, very much appreciated.
Thank you! I was always wondering how people do this. Great video!
Hi Wolfgang..thx for supporting my new VC Channel TONYS LPSRUS..I just subscribed to yours. Keep rockN
Thanks so much for comparing these and comfirming my suspicions on tone even with two very similar models. I did as much research as I could before purchasing a 1980 AS200 and I feel very lucky as it sounds & feels better than all but one or two Gibsons I've played since I started playing in the early eighties. Something I had hoped you included was some discussion on the small black switch included on both of those AS200's. On mine I hear a very prominent bass boost to the neck PU in the forward position, but very little difference in the other two position for either pickup. Not sure if mine is working correctly. Any thoughts/experience?
the switch sets the front pickup in parallel, single coil split or regular hum bucker.
@@mymixture965 Cool thanks Wofgang! Ya, i just watched this comparison where about 13min in they describe & compare the three switch positions: czcams.com/video/ho5zejfsaJ4/video.html
Is this straight in or are you using a compressor? I gigged with an Archtop II for years (20 years ago) and had a hard time with the stock pickups in that guitar without a compressor. Thanks and beautiful playing!
No compressor. I never use a compressor with humbucker.
Great player
They all sound good for Tele's. The Schecter is in another league with the humbuckers much warmer.
Hi! Thank you so much for the videos! I really like your style and playing! Quick question, important one I think. What is the serial number of the '86? Was it made at the Fuji or Tarada plant? That could be the difference right there!
Hi, I already sold this guitar so I can't check it. I remember is was a 86 because the number startet with 86, from my knowledge it was made in Fuji. Thanks for your kind words!
1 fender 2sq 3shecter 4g&l
G&L the BEST!
wowwww
Very interesting. Thanks!
Vielen dank for this very important demo that most jazz players never discuss. Can you provide more details of you amp settings: especially on the tubeless Polytone (if I understood correctly). I realize it's some time ago now but ,thought it was worth asking anyway about such important knowledge. :)
The settings are mostly in the middle. Just be aware that if you raise the volume, you maybe have to turn down the Bass. Also the mids are often too low because when you play at home, you don't need them that much, but when you play in a band, they help you to cut through.
Great Sound 😀
Let me have this guitar when your done with it. I will play it .
Thanks for really refreshing and entertaining video, that "period guy" is also common in prog- and psych rock circles.
I have a peerless monarch and i realy think i will swap the floating pickup for an humbucker
The guitar sounds more well rounded now but I personally prefer the sound of the original pickups because I'm specifically after that clean twangy vintage sound and I feel like you lost some of that with the upgrades. Still sounds good though and it's probably a more versatile instrument now.
Thanks for the comment, I still have the replacements in the guitar and still prefer them, but the original ones are very good too. I keep them, you never know .-)
Something's wrong with both pick ups. I think you will have to adjust the pole pieces on both. You could have better definition. you could need a few bass traps in that room.
I think In this comparison I prefer the asat classic American, seems to have a nice vintage sound where the select has a hotter output I guess it's a matter of what style you're playing. Of course people play with their eyes first haha that select is a beauty
I do wish the squier had stock pups in this comparison
Wo hast du denn die alten Ibanez-Gitarren gekauft, wenn ich fragen darf?
Meistens von privat, die AS200 hat mir ein Geschäft vermittelt. Ich schaue halt öfter mal die Kleinanzeigen im WWW durch.
Very much a matter of personal preference. Great video. Thanks.
love it!
So I’m at a crossroads with my 1981 As-200. I owned a Am-100 with the classic 58s and loved them. My 200 has the 70s and they just don’t capture his good it sounds acoustically. Do you have 58s or 70s
Sorry I don't know, I never took them out.
Nice tones and digging it!. Just Subscribed to your channel! any idea what is the Fralin Bridge output 8.2k or 8.4k? Im planning to get Pure Paf set also, but I'm thinking whether 8.2 or 8.4k...Fralin says 8.2k has a bit mids, then 8.4k has more mids and low end.. Thanks in advance.
Thanks! I never measured the pickups, so sorry, no idea.
Great playing, great tone, great product demonstration! I came looking (;istening) for clean and dark Jazz tones, but stayed for the distorted and more distorted sounds, too- well done all around! I will strongly consider the Fralin Pure PAF's as one of the candidates for a needed upgrade in one of my guitars!
Thanks man, I still like them, they are still in the guitar, 7 years now.
The original pu sounds more like archtop now it sounds like solid gt
Beautiful ES175! I love my ES125. They are the more affordable boxes. What strings did you use on your 57 175? Sounds awesome! The perfect Jazz tone :) Congratulations 👍
I tried many different strings, the best so far for this guitars are Thomastik flat wound 12th.
