Paul, you are a good man. The fact that you helped out a fellow expat during his time of need is commendable. I know that there were a lot of people in the expat and Filipino community who helped during those trying times. Thank you for all that you do as you and the other helpful folks give me hope for the future of humanity!

I didn't know John was a stroke victim. That explains a lot. I think he generated a lot of hate mail because his story was framed as a poor expat being taken advantage by a poor Filipina who stole his money. There was a lot more to the story, including his 2 strokes. Glad he returned to the USA & turned his life around for the better. John seems to now have realistic, positive, attainable goals.

You're a true legend, Paul. And you should be commended for your part in creating the legend of Expat John, which was FULL of lessons for everyone in and out of the Philippines. Lessons about life, love and the community. John's experience, while tragic, was the ultimate story of redemption. And while you helped him, I don't think you should feel bad for what his story did to help you and your channel. You don't know how many other people you might have helped through this story, but all the other stories you tell. Expat John helped you reach and help more people. I can't help but feel that you're a little miffed about the popularity of John and his story on your channel, like a rock star who dislikes his biggest hit song or the TV star who dislikes being typecast in their most popular role. You're just both so relatable, albeit in different ways. I'm sure people will keep asking about him, but maybe in the future John can have his own channel enabling him to have his own income stream! I saw the first few video's about John. I have to admit, I was certain he was going to permanently crash and burn. End up on the street. It's good to see he had the will power to pick himself up, and focus on what's important. Those babies helped him realize what he has to do. I wish him all the best.

No matter what the situation is, some people will always find something to criticize. They have a pessimistic attitude and see everything in a bad light. Sadly, we often pay more attention to the few negative comments than to the many positive ones. We need to learn to tune out most of the negativity and preserve our positivity.

As you well know, make sure he gets his SS started and has a few checks under his belt before coming back. Cant believe I have been following your channel for 3+ years now, WOW! I recall the first John videos and I recall that his major mistake, besides NOT having a steady monthly income was that he spent about 15K on building a new house for his new wife and kids and it turned out it wasnt hers or his but now belonged to the Barangay per Filipino law. So after 1 year or so of spending closer to 1K a month and the 15K (so about 25K of the 30K) he was almost broke and needed to leave the Philippines asap to go back home and earn some more money and wait to start collecting his SS, which I think will start in 2024. While 6oo/month is a possibility for one man to live on it meant he needed to follow a very strict budget and NOT get married, not have kids yet and definitely do not build a 15K house for a Barangay. Unfortunately he violated all of the known problems when first living in the Philippines and got himself into some deep kimchee. Kimchee is very healthy fermented cabbage and good to consume but you never want to find yourself chest deep in the stuff, lol.

Great to hear things are going good for John. He has a plan, he's sticking to it, and he's reaching his goal. How many chances do you get in life? Apparently as many as you need as long as you are willing to try. He has some health issues, but peace of mind goes a long way to improving those. 61 hours a day on your feet at work sounds like a lot but it's the fastest way to get where he wants to go. Having seen Diane in a previous video, I can understand his motivation. I'm looking forward to the video of his arrival back in the Philippines. My hat's off to Paul and everyone who worked up and funded this "project." A happy end is in sight.
