  • I hadn't really thought much about the Toyota Yaris Cross, despite the car selling in huge numbers and being everywhere. So when the opportunity came to drive the newly updated, more powerful version, I decided to see what this little car was all about. I'm very pleased that I did......

    with an mpg of 64 🤷🏼‍♂️. 🇬🇧

Good review of what looks to be a great little car. You've avoided the mistake that other reviewers have made of referring to the CVT as being a belt drive, when it is in fact an eCVT using planetary gears. You have, however, repeated their error of referring to B mode as brake regen, whereas on Toyotas the B mode is only used to provide engine braking on steep downhill runs (thus avoiding potential brake fade).

I got mine in Australia 2 weeks ago after having it on order for 15 months. It's called the Yaris Cross Urban, and I purchased all the bells and whistles. It has extras like dash cam, the boot protector, and weather shields, plus the nano coating with a lifetime guarantee on the duco, plus tinting on all windows.
    I paid $49k.
It's also AWD, has a heads-up display, lane correction, accident avoidance, among other things, and the colour is Atomic Rush, which is a deep red with a black roof.
I'm still learning all the things it can do, and that seems never ending.

Brother in law also interested in Yaris Cross but only usually does short journeys. Some forums suggest that there can sometimes be a possibility of the battery losing it's charge when the car is only used for short journeys or is left parked up for several days (eg at Airport) Does anyone have any info/views on this. We are really pleased with ours which is why we are happy to get another one.

    • @jimb7406
      @jimb7406 Před 9 dny

I don't have the Yaris but do have a 2019 RAV4 hybrid. Have had it for a year and a half. I only do short journeys - typically about 10-15 miles a day and the 12v battery definitely does not get enough charge put back into it, particularly in the winter when the electrical loads such as heated seats, steering wheel, rear window heater etc are used a lot. I also have dogs and the electric tailgate is used a lot. There are lots of complaints online about Toyota hybrid cars having flat 12v batteries. So I got a battery bluetooth monitor and wired in a CTEK plug to the battery in the boot so I can monitor the voltage and recharge the 12v battery easily. My battery needs a boost about every week in winter, every 10-14 days in summer. I also carry a 12v jumper battery pack - keep it easily available under a front seat or glovebox and not in the boot. If you do short journeys and don't have a driveway or garage where you can recharge the 12v battery I would advise to think twice about a Toyota hybrid.

Gabble, gabble yet this man is slow to focus and describe actual features and layout. I gave up and used the subtitles instead.
These are very good cars and although I preferred the less angular designs I read somewhere that side surfaces actually show better results in wind tunnel smoke tests.
The eCVT Toyota and Daihatsu types are simpler and stronger than with other recent CVTs used by most manufacturers and 1st gear is a version of direct torque converter to save on transmission stress over the years.
A major reason why Toyota never favoured 'pure' EV is because their research network correctly predicted that EVs will only be around for a single car generation. Weight issues, unstable chemical stored energy malfunctions and the upheaval needed for electric charging resulting in patchy availability just make them a bad option in large scale use.
Thus, Toyota was not 'slow to produce an EV' so much as producing a few for EV fans. In Japan and the Pacific Rim EVs will continue for a while in dense urban areas where charging can break even and the target seems to be the taxi industry.
Tesla is working on hybrid developments using hydrogen under license from Toyota.

He gave the right information for me. Features are secondary. First is transmisson, steering, handling characterstics. The exact reason you need a car is for driving which requires these to know. One of the best videos explaining the transmission.
Currently, driving a diesel DSG dry 115k km's fully satisfied with reliability and transmission. But atleast i know that an eCVT will do for me in future. Because i need that diesel fuel efficiency after this. As diesel cars are becoming less available.
Only love about DSG is that overtaking is super punchy. Need of a country where people dont drive in lanes, so the faster one becomes the dominant and controls the wrongdoers. Lol. But thats the truth.

Apologies that you had to endure that, but this is how I review. The automotive CZcams space is very crowded, and so in order for me to stand out, I give a bit more detail on the car I review and the marketplace it sits in. I try to aim my reviews at people who might be looking to actually buy the car, so the amount of detail I give is important - a hangover of me having been a car salesman for nearly 30 years I'm afraid. This won't be for everyone, so if you would rather watch people drag race cars, or skip over important pieces of information, this might not be your channel. If it isn't, the all I can say is thank you for giving its try and taking the time to comment. I do however plot it into chapters so you can find the relevant piece to you, but like I said, I know my style won't be everyone's cup of tea. Sorry if it isn't yours.
