  • RJ attended Drexel University to study Mechanical Engineering. During his first year he became involved with the Drexel Autonomous Systems Lab (DASL), where he cultivated a love for manufacturing and robotics. During his Sophomore year, he became a part of an international research collaboration with the humanoid robot, Hubo. He published two academic papers in the following two years: the first on humanoid control with LabVIEW(R), and the second on an innovative humanoid spine. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science in 2012, Drexel hired him as a staff member to continue machining education and humanoid manufacturing.
In March 2013, RJ and four other DASL alumni formed a startup company called Carbide Labs. After seeing what the maker industry and 3D printing has done for small-scale manufacturing, their goal is to spark the same revolution in circuit boards. They are developing low-cost printed circuit board (PCB) fabrication and assembly tools for small businesses and home users. Their dream is to have PCB assembly be as straightforward as 3D printing is now.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
