5 Style Tips For PLUS SIZED Ladies To LOOK THINNER: Over 50 czcams.com/video/EqTAjEV3Pb4/video.html
I fail to understand why so many people recommend wide leg pants for fat people. (I'm fat - let's just call it like it is.) If you carry a lot of weight in your thighs - your thighs rub together. And if you are wearing pants with positive ease, your thighs will bunch up the fabric as you walk. It is a horrible look, and it feels horrible.
I have this same dilemma. I have thick thighs but relatively slender ankles and lower legs, so that’s what I want people to see.
I am overweight and when I wear leggings people say I look slim. Did never wear wide leg pants!
@@tracebooksand you are right!
I agree but leggings are not flattering either. In fact, leggings are a non non even for slender women.
@@yardleyj9391 a non non?😂
Designers like to frustrate plus-size women: they figure because we are larger, we don't deserve clothes that look good on us and that we will SETTLE for ANYTHING that fits. WRONG!! You have to try EVERYTHING on and make sure it works for you. Some of these tips work for me, but some of them don't (like the maxi dress) because I am only 5'2. When you are short and plus size, you have to put more thought and work into what looks good on you. Keep on triumphing plus size ladies!
I am doing more advice for my beautiful Petite Plus Size ladies 😃 keep sharing your common sense wisdom ma chère 😘
These issues are becoming more pervasive in all of fast fashion! It's like a race to the bottom.
I’m also 5’2”, with abdominal dystasis recti, and I’m turning 60. My skin looks relatively young. But being short and having this midsection that really could use surgery to correct means very little looks good on me.
I am 170 cm and 84 kg. I wear what I want and who cares about designers? They are frustrated and hate women 😂
They all think we want to wear animal print too. I can’t bear animal print.
M. A., we luv that no matter what size we are, you don't judge us. Merci mon cherie.
I love all my French Chic Ladies Ms B - no judgement just Love ❤️
Speak for you. You love. Who cares Who judges?
Thank you, Marie Anne! I cannot stand polyester fabric. The fabric is sweaty and cheap.
Plus it can make one break out.
Exactly right Grandma Old School - let's say NO to polyester 🙌
When I am thrifting, I always look for things that are lined in cotton rather than polyester. Hard to find, but it makes a difference!
@@susanclotfelter7247I sometimes cut out linings. If a lining is needed, I find a cotton nightgown.
It’s all athletes wear so I assure you polyester is perfect if you sweat! If you run, you know.
The reason why designers want polyester is because it's cheap. I wonder if people know it's just plastic that they're wearing. I hate polyester for several reasons. It's plastic, smells, not durable and is mostly way too hot for me. I love cotton and linnen. For the colder months i use wool with cotton blends... Thank you for this video!! Finally a woman who understands that polyester is crap.
It is the worst kind of fabric Jeanine - it will be with us almost forever 🙁
Did you notice how difficult it is to find cotton or cotton blends in stores nowadays? It’s so frustrating! Today’s marketers want to sell you inferior rayon or rayon-based inexpensive fabrics which are ecologically damaging because they are semi-synthetic fabrics made from treating cellulose with hazardous chemicals. Disturbingly, all of this is done in the name of ecological soundness to manipulate the consumer. Cotton has superior longevity and drape and breathability.
Have always despised it.
I think I knew most of these things instinctually but you are so gentle and humorous and your language so nonjudgemental that I am going to try a lot harder to elevate myself and my style!
Yayyyy Rebecca 🙌 please let me know how you get on 😃
Thank you ... I did not realize the part about avoiding round shapes and embracing more angular shapes. That's a helpful tip, among all the other helpful tips mentioned!
You're very welcome JackOllide - please share to anyone you think may be interested 😘
Marie Anne, how elegant and beautiful you look today!
Awww merci Lucja x
As a woman with a larger bust, I’ve learned to avoid any gathers above or below the bust. They give that bursting-out, “buxom milkmaid” look, it isn’t very elegant and draws too much attention to the bust.
👍
Exactly
Buxom milkmaid made me lol 😂
This!
I love the way you pronounce the word 'taller.' Very elegant.
Merci Dingle 🤗
Wonderful! Pay attention ladies … MaryAnne is right on all these styles! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💕
Merci ma chère - please share if you would like to see more like this x
I agree with you; I don’t understand why designers choose unflattering shapes, patterns, designs for plus-size women! And polyester, especially in summer, is the absolute worst fabric!
Thank you for your elegant tips for dressing! 🙂
You are very welcome 😃
We pear-licious women thank you! Hooray for creating another video that explains the reason why an outfit is a “oui” ou “non” for plus size women! May I share that adding shoulder pads is a game changer for those with small or rounded shoulders? Hugs to you Marie-Anne! 😘
I like your thinking Cynthia 😃 please share this video if you get the chance - I would appreciate your help 😘
Avoiding raglan sleeves is also helpful if you have narrow shoulders. Always better to have a seam at the shoulders.
It's not that they make polyester clothes just for plus sizes they use polyester for all sizes because it's cheap.
I hate poly. Natural fibers are so much more breathable and comfortable.
I agree with all of your suggestions except for the wide leg pants. As an apple shape my legs are my best feature so i like to show them of. I find a straight leg trouser is the most flattering for me.
PS lets start a ban polyester revolution!
I, too, am no longer a plus. I'm comfortable with a size 10.
Marching towards a 8
Great Job Katherine 😃👏
Thank you! This has been the best plus size video. The information will be of great value since I won’t be bringing home clothes that I will not be comfortable in. You gave me information on what not to wear and why and actually showed me a great alternative.
Glad it was helpful Kathie - please share so that it gets a wider audience who need to see it 🤗
Merci for your helpful advice, Marie-Anne. These are fabulous tips for plus sized ladies since women of all ages, sizes and bodyshapes can perfectly dress chic following your guidelines. Great content featuring actual plus sized models.
Glad you enjoyed it AW - sadly it is underperforming - I don't know why - I thought it would do really well seeing the number of requests. Maybe I mis-judged the appeal 🙁
Merci Marie Anne! J'adore le franglais!
I love maxi dresses, but was always frustrated wearing them, because they made me look like I'm walking on my knees! But thanks to you I realised my mistake: they were too long and hid my ankles. That dress you showed with the ankles showing makes all the difference. I'll definitely try them again. Merci, Marie-Anne!
You are very welcome Annie 😘
🤔Another thing that is elongating & slimming (beside that continuous column of vertical color) is a maxi skirt w/some kind of a split. It can be a rear, front, or side split. It doesn't have to be a ridiculously high one to work, but feel free to show off your legs if that appeals to you.
The split attracts the focus👁👁, & it automatically makes the viewer imagine how the leg continues up ⬆️ UNDER the skirt. That trick is surprisingly leg lengthening.
Lastly, it's a BONUS if you're wearing nude shoes (even flats). A skin colored shoe stops you from being visually chopped off the feet. It cleverly removes any horizontal line created by your shoes. Your feet practically magically disappear. That simple trick visually extends ↕️ the length of your leg from hemline to infinity 〰️just going below⬇️ in the opposite direction.
😉Look at the model here in the pretty pink dress in Marie-Anne's thumbnail to see this principle in action. The nude shoes beautifully elongate her legs.
💚Bridget from Cali☘️
(using my pal's YT acct)
And that's the difference, isn't it? French casual is chic, while elsewhere e.g. in the UK, casual is anything but chic. I'm convinced that style must be a part of the French national character!
Vive La Différence Nicky 😘
Tell me about it! My slim, 18-year-old daughter runs around dressed in hoodies, baggy joggers and trainers always.
As a tall plus size women, Thank you! I've been decluttering my closet and working on a style journal to remove the pieces that just don't work anymore. This video made some of my decisions much easier. ❤
That is wonderful to hear Tina 🙌 a style journal is the very best way to move your style journey forward 👏
Blazers are very convenient. Very comfortable but you still look a bit more dressed up than if you just wear a sweater
It is a great way to elevate and look chic Hawthorne 😘
I hate wearing blazers as they usually don’t fit me well. I have larger biceps, so arms are often tight; and at every size I’ve been in my 50 years (from regular to plus size), it never fits in the bust area, usually too large…Needless to say, it would require a lot of tailoring; and they’re mostly uncomfortable. I own a few as I sometimes have to wear them for work…but I just hate them. I like the look, but not how it feels.
Dear Marie-Anne,
Top down to earth tips! Can be applied for many body shapes!! 👍
Merci! 🤗😘😘
Exactly right Francisca it works for everyone that is the beauty of authentic French Chic x
Really good advice I must say Marie-Anne, really hope the plus size ladies look and listen because the alternative trousers, jackets, skirts ect were oh so much more flattering, and in all honesty they looked nice and chic casual to wear. Thank you for a really good vid and i love the French Language I put it adds to it.
Merci Shirley - please share to any plus size friends you know 😘 spread the word x
LOL I'm sitting here in my coveted denim jacket !! 😂 👍😎🇨🇦
😃 Will you try a linen blazer instead Marian 😉
Poly and Ester are heat producers..🔥 Master class was in session......👍👍
I'm so glad I have found cotton and linen or a blend of the two for most of the "new sized" clothes I picked out. I can't think of anything polyester that I included. I got on this bandwagon years ago when it started getting so hot here. I found some wonderful cotton/linen "button up" shirts that will be nice by themselves, but I also got some cotton tanks/camisoles in a couple of different colors and will be able to wear the shirts loosely to top them off.
👏
I’m kind of the opposite. I like polyester blends because I hate wrinkles. Linen is a lovely fabric, but all the wrinkles makes you look like you slept in your clothes ! I wear a lot of knits because they stay neater looking while being worn.
Great video, Marie-Anne! I’m WITH you!😍
😃🤗
I love all your videos. The examples you use for plus work well for me/anyone. I’ve learned so much from you. I was in a really bad mood a few days ago. I didn’t want to get dressed. I stepped into the closet and grabbed 3 things randomly. Then I started laughing. Everything works well together. My next try will be olive green (purchase) and aubergine. Quince. 😊 I forgot to say….now I learned to wear cotton/poplin, linen, silk, double gauze.
You have discovered the healing power of authentic French Chic 🙏
True. Linen is very comfortable to wear. Unfortunately it creases very badly. I think it looks very messy. Is that still nice?
The more you wash, iron and wear your linen pieces, the more the fabric softens and creases less. Also, it feels so delicious to wear. And when you see a lot of people wearing expensive looking linen, it’s never crisply ironed; the relaxed look of the weave is what makes it look expensive.
It is a lovely fabric Sparrow - I call the creases smile lines for clothes 😃
Creases prove it’s real linen, thus more chic!
I am no longer plus size. I receive compliments wearing my denim jackets. I also like to wear vests over my button down blouses, for that extra layer. Lately I have been having difficulty finding the right size button down blouse, one that won't open where it shouldn't. I definitely look for cotton, with the latest addition to my wardrobe being a vertical striped shirt dress from Banana Republic, complete with side pockets. I never wore skinny jeans or leggings. I seldom go anywhere these days without somebody commenting positively on my bell bottom jeans.
Bell bottoms are the best Deborah 👏 you have proven it 😃🙌
Great advice. Im not plus sized, but im tall. I got rid of my horizontal striped cardigan yesterday which i bought to wear while gardening. Ive decided that my very casual and unflattering clothes that i only wear at home need an overhaul.
In Paris, I once saw a gardener wearing a sleeveless sheath dress and nice flats shoes to do her work. Such a contrast to where ai live.
I
That is wonderful Jessie 😃 with so much choice these days there is no need to opt for unflattering clothes 😘
I was going to skip this video as I am quite skinny, but I found it very helpful!
That is very kind of you Jill - the design principles are applicable to all shapes and sizes - you just need to know which ones to pick 😘
As soon as I saw the intro, I was so impressed! Everything you said is so useful. Merci! I love hearing from you. It makes my day happy, like a visit from a friend. And I am also loving your necklaces lately! Tres chic!
Merci - it is lovely to know my videos resonate with you 🤗
Marie-Anne! You always make me laugh! You make learning fun! Thank you!
🤗
Thank you Marie Ann for your unstoppable advices! Let’s put them in good use right away. ❤❤
Yayyyy Teo 🙌 please share - I think this video needs to reach a wider audience x
Hi Marie-Anne
I am a petite lady and a plus size , love to hear some of your ideas for women like me also what is a good length for shirts , blouses as most of them today have this long body and tail that makes me look like I have grandpas shirt on … just love you styles and all the info you give us ..
Cheers irene

You're welcome my sweet queen
Marie Anne can you do a video on plus size petite ladies for casual. I am only 4' 11" and find it hard to know what looks best on me. Thank you, I have been watching your videos for a long time and they have helped me so much!
Bonjour Carol - I did Petite last week and Petite Plus Size is next 😘
I’m 5’1’ and have a few suggestions. First and foremost you have to find a good seamstress or tailor because all of your garments will need to be altered. Your sleeves must be shortened as well as your hemlines. Do not buy maxi dresses or skirts. Pay attention to necklines. Do not wear turtlenecks. Buy V necks or square neck blouses and tops. Buy cropped jackets. They stop at your waist so you avoid looking like you’re wearing a man’s suit jacket.
@@bernadettedevereaux8694 Thank you so much for the great suggestions! I always try to get v necks!
Thank you so much Marie-Anne! You are a marvel!
You are very welcome Caroline 😘
Excellente vidéo, explication précise avec image et un brin d’humour! Je vous adore !
Merci Sophie 🤗
I really like the blue striped shirt with the elasticized back. I think this would be an easy modification to do on any button up shirt, which often seem so voluminous.
Merci beaucoup pour the advice. J’aime le sense of humour 🙂
😃
Thank you so much for this wonderful information Marie-Anne. I am a plus size lady & absolutely love French Chic - I try very hard to emulate this style, but it can be a challenge for a larger lady. I find your videos so very helpful. I have a whole page on Pinterest devoted to Casual Chic - mainly French inspired - I wish I was tall & slim, but I’m not, so I just have to adapt as best as I can!!
First and above all love and accept yourself Sue; that is the basis of French Chic 😃 it can be a challenge for my lovely larger ladies as designers are letting you down so badly. But, always remember - if it is not a Wow it is a Non - that way your wardrobe will grow slowly but surely into a French Chic capsule wardrobe 🤗
This video is much much appreciated. It's just packed with useful advice and the visual examples really says it all. Thank you so much Marie Anne! I'm compelled to check out your online course for plus sizes. Hope to join soon!❤

I can’t stand polyester.
What do you wear for workouts?
@@tinalewis6782 My workout consists of caring for 5 acres of land, gardening and small farm animals. 100% cotton jeans, and cotton shirts work best for me.
Me either. Although it’s gotten better over the years
the technical quality of yr videos is excellent...very clear and great volume. so many vids have neither .of course, bien sur, the content is excellent, too.
That is very kind of you Susan thank you - we appreciate the feedback 🙏
You are brilliant and beautiful. Thank you for your wonderful, helpful suggestions! Much appreciated!
You are very welcome Sunny and please if you can share the video to your friends to help the message spread 🤗
Merci cent mille fois!
This was the best plus size video you have done. It was so good. I don’t understand why designers insist on putting high necklines on plus size clothing either, especially in summer! I can only guess that they are all skinny and don’t get it. I also get annoyed that they make so few midi lengh dresses for plus sizes because I am only 5ft 2 and a midi dress on me is a maxi dress. By the time I cut about 6 inches off a maxi dress I have ruined it in most cases. I do wear short dresses because they end up sitting just below my knees and that looks great.
That is very kind of you Suzanne - merci 🤗 I also did a recent video for plus size petites which may help czcams.com/video/bJRr_yT5HmE/video.html 😘
Thank you Anne-Marie, Really liked all right outfits, I might be brave enough to send this to my very sceptical friend, she has very definite ideas about what will suit her, & I must say she is right most if the time, as she knows her body shape very well.
Please do share Christine - I thought this video would do better than it is 🙁 if it does not do well it is because people do not need the information and I judge what videos I do in the future by the results videos get. If you want more of this - please help 😘
Ok Ann- Marie,
I will share this with her.
MarieAnne, so much valuable info presented in a fun way.... verdict ✅️ Its a Oui
😃 A Big Oui 😃
I like most of the tips except the wider legged pants. I am 167cm but legs are short and those are just not flattering on me. So what pants does one wear with a longer blouse? I wear skinny jeans and leggings simply because the wider pants looks I have tree stumps for legs. ☹️
There are a lot of style issues in here Viola - the length of your legs, perhaps also you may be long waisted - certainly you will have a long torso watch here czcams.com/video/WAJkYLcldxU/video.html and here czcams.com/video/bUc4w0_vhZ4/video.html a generic video like the one you have just watched can't answer all the style questions that every viewer has but it pays to look around my channel as i have covered just about every style topic 😃
@@MarieAnneLecoeur thank you I will have a look! Strangely never considered I may have a longer torso if my legs are short. 🤦🏻♀️ Something new to consider. Thanks again.
I love love love the lila outfit!

I have to laugh!! I can’t tell if you are saying horizontal or horrible!! I love your videos-always informative along with entertaining!
😃 I am so sorry Stephanie my accent gets in the way 🤪 maybe for my lovely larger ladies horizontal is horrible 😃
I did emotional purchasing and bought many false fabric tops. I could barely go through last years summer and this year it’s even worse due to natural changes. They are leaving today with the encouragement from you. Mercy, ❤
👏decluttering is good for your style 😃
ironic - excellent advise kindly given. Merci. Unfortunately, the ad preceding this advice was a super thin model advertising Spanks.
which she doesn't need Lyn😅 glad you enjoyed the video 😘
I think these are great tips regardless of your size or shape. Love the outfit you’re wearing Marie-Anne. Where is the blazer from?
Merci JP - there are common design principles good for all running all through my videos 😃 The suit is by Mango 😃
It was a great video as usual. Thank you!

Always check the lengths of the minis. If you're not very tall, they're actually knee length often enough.

Fantastic video for those of us who are plus size! Great suggestions. Agree that v-neck is always more flattering than a round neck. By the way, would you have any info on the denim shirt you showed at about the 11:45 time frame? Merci!
Bonjour IRC that was a late addition to the video as an example - I will try to add the link later 😘
Marie-Anne, can you talk about seersucker? I don't know the French word for it. It is the all-cotton fabric that is striped and slightly puckered. Classic for summer. Often in classic navy or medium blue.
I will see what I can com up with Susan x
Love seersucker ❤ for summer
THANK YOU for this! With serious thyroid issues and now Menopause, I’ve gained so much weight I had given up on wearing anything remotely stylish. You have shown me lovely options for my changing body.

Such great advice as usual my dear lady. And no I don't feel a but coming 😆🤣😅You so funny today... love it!❣

You are so right! Thank you! 💕👍
Excellent!
Super conseils je suis trop contente, et peux nous conseiller aussi sur quoi porter pour les gens qui ont le haut du dos un peu courbe ...
Merci beaucoup Anne et j' ai souscrit.
Well, now I am confused about denim jackets, lol. I am short and plus size (though I'm slowly losing weight). I was told that a short denim jacket (not buttoned-up) could be flattering. Mine sits at the waist, is unbuttoned, and I roll up the sleeves. I believe it helps to define my non-existent waist. I never wear denim-on-denim. What do you think? Thank you for another wonderful video!
I am not a fan of denim jackets Susan they are far too ... well frumpy for my taste. If worn open they can create a column of colour which can be slimming and flattering but why choose a denim jacket when there are far nicer jackets to be found 😘
Yaaaassss, you are 100% right about everything you have said!
🙏
Very helpfull, Marie-Anne X
😘
Thank you
Fantastic video - very helpful! Love your enthusiasm Marianne - you’re a breath of fresh air. Merci beaucoup ☺💖
You are very welcome DK 😃
And polyester is really bad for the environment. Microplastics every time you wash it. And it gets smelly...
I'm not plus but these outfits are soooo good looking. Many plus celebrities could use your advice. I'm post menopause, average size (with post menopause tummy thickening) but wonder if the Lanebryant elastic back shirt comes in regular sizes, preferable petite because I'm short. All these outfits would do well on my body.
I am available for consultations 😃

@kelrogers8480, when you leave out the ‘I’ you are telling her to love her French language touch. I don’t understand the sentence, really, so please forgive me if I am out of line. 😊
ouhhhhh I don't know how I got here but I'm glad, new follower, so far I'm on tract with the blazer, angles, and the direction of the stripes ❤
Bonjour Norah - I am glad you got here too 😃😘
It was interesting to read the comments. I get it. I. I'm 5'3 and 200. All my weight is the upper half so wearing wide leg pants really cuts me in half because I'm very short waisted. But she is right about the V neckline and horizontal lines being more flattering. And I really don't like synthetic fibers but that seems to be what they've chosen for us to be able to afford. Cotton and linen can be very expensive these days.
Sharp analysis.👍
Merci Jan x
Merci, Marie! This video was helpful. I’ve been a size 6/8 my entire adult life, but because of health issues this year, I am now a size 14/16. It’s definitely been an adjustment getting comfortable in my new body, especially because dressing in a chic and stylish manner has been important to me since childhood! Your video has encouraged me with additional ideas and ways I can still portray and elevated style, regardless of my size. Thanks again!

We shoppers can force brands to offer natural, non-plastic fibers. Just never buy them. It isn’t easy, but I don’t, not even in blends. I don’t shop any brands that don’t use natural fibers. In my case, I don’t have a choice because of plastic allergies, but these develop with repeated exposure and are more common than most people realize. In addition, by pre-menopause we can overheat so quickly and miserably that non-breathable plastics are just unwearable. They’re not really suitable for clothing at all. The only reason brands ever use them is to increase their profits by cutting their fabric costs to nearly zero. If certain items don’t work out for you, synthetic ones will have no value to secondhand wearers and don’t biodegrade. Don’t buy: polyester, acrylic, nylon, acetates or spandex. Brands are clever, they use different names, if in doubt, look them up. Vote with your wallets, ladies!
👏
I own skinny jeans in a medium wash and you will have to pry them out of my cold dead hand before I give them up.
If the garment is to lose or baggy it will make you look bigger.
I still like a skinny jean as I have slim short legs, my weight is more tummy, breast and upper body… wide legs make me look dumpy
