The master, the guy who keeps coming back and never stops
“Somehow, The Master has returned”
@@ospreyphil8995
Still mad they tried to give that to Palpatine. It suits Master more.

Lack of coordination was the real problem. All movies are disconnected from each other.
That's why I love the master
Never dying, never dying, NEVER DYING!
One of my all time favourites but that crime scene outline just cracks me up, put the outline of the damn ruff as well like the president ran through a cartoon wall.
The Doctor / Tom really rocking that pirate outfit.
Reminds me of The Corsair.
“He’s my sworn arch enemy, an fiend who glories in chaos and destruction.” gotta love that summary of the Master.
Also poor old Runcible.
You'd have thought Runcible could've just regenerated after being stabbed but no
@@Daldi564 Maybe he didn't have any regeneration left
A sad end for the man who invented the Runcible Spoon.
Well, maybe he regenerated. Like 3 or 7 doctors, a bit late, after extracting the knife of his body of course. Or in the time war the time lords resurrect him for war or something. (This can be applied to other dead time lords)
@@Daldi564 Both hearts with a silver stake. One of the many ways of circumventing regeneration entirely
This was actually one of the few classic who stories I watched in its entirety. It was action packed especially when the Doctor was trying to survive in the Matrix.
I can't get over that chalk outline.
Same here. Its absurdity hadn't really registered before, even though I've seen this story dozens of times.
and you were there
I'm glad someone on else noticed. The rest of the clip seems like it's trying to be a serious Time Lord CSI episode but I can't get past the ridiculous outline. 😂
Ah back in the good old days when the entire universe didn't instantly know the Doctor and the Master by reputation.
And when there were creaky stairs or floors on Gallifrey
It is kind of weird that the Time Lords themselves hadn't heard of the Master though.
@@imperium3556 No it isn't: The Doctor was notable only in his being a very near failure and the Master was just another mediocre graduate of a year who's only notable success was the brilliant Biochemist known as the Rani and the Time Lord Jeremy Paxman Runcible the Fatuous. You are basically saying that the Time Lord equivilent to the Home Secretary should know two people just because they were in the same class as Marie Curie centuries before. That's not how sophisticated civilisations work.

@@batheandrelaxinmyshit6344 Actually, YOU are. Username reflects it. Nothing he said was wrong, it's literally true...
I liked how the Castellan actually gave the chance for the Doctor to prove himself innocent.
Runcible's last words are so sad he just says sorry even though it's not his fault.
This was my very first-ever look at the Master’s favourite weapon. Today it’s still the most haunting impact for me. Even more than the most recently updated effects first seen in Spyfall. 😱
When I discovered Doctor Who in the early 1980’s and watched it on Public Television, the early Tom Baker episodes were the only reference I had. I had no idea he was the Fourth Doctor and that there was a huge back story involving The Master from the Third Doctor era. Many years later, with that background, seeing this again means so much more.
Personally the Deadly Assassin is my favourite Classic Story I like the look of the Master in this
Peter Pratt is one of these actors who people often forget about and that's such a shame.
To quote Tom Baker, in The Tom Baker Years (1992), “But I haven’t forgotten.”
Peter Pratt had a daunting task replacing Roger Delgado. But he made it work.
About the only doctor story without him having a normal traveling companion in the story.
In the transition from Sarah to Leela, given the differences between them as companions, I think that The Deadly Assassin somehow worked even better as a companionless story for the Doctor.
Casterlan: Who is the Master tom baker: he is my sworn arch enemy
Me if I were Casterlan: I understand that is a long list. You'll have to be more specific
@@autumbreeze1129 *Castellan
I love the massive sets used in this story. I was always struck though, even from the first time I watched it when first broadcast: why didn't Runcible or the President simply regenerate? The same for Chancellor Goth later in the story.
I would guess the Master knows how to kill a Time Lord without triggering the regeneration. You either damage the body so much that regeneration simply isn't possible, or kill them too quickly for the regeneration to take place.
@@HazarTulum makes sense
@@aravinz_hd Or they had already used up all their allotted regenerations.
Skullcrusher430 you’ve got to cut the 3 brain stems, and do something else to remove regenerative ability, but even then the body keeps fighting to stay alive. Or simply interrupt the regenerative process.
Stazers are designed to kill a Timelord outright. So the President couldn't regenerate. Its possible Runcible wasn't a Timelord but just an ordinary Galifreyian, its hinted as much when he was doing the commentary for his broadcast. Since only Timelords are given regeneration cycles, ordinary Galifreyans can't regenerate.
How you going to skip the torture scene that comes right before this? That's a classic part of this episode 🤣
Tom Baker is THE Doctor, the definitive article you might say.
Id say there has been 3 actors that has become THE Doctor. TB, DT & JC. All 3 really became THE Doctor.

I never made the switch to new Who haha. After Eccleston's first and only season it was all downhill from there for me...
New Who is enjoyable, but you can't top the classics.
Though this takes place on the home planet of the time lords, literally nobody that is killed, regardless of method ever regenerates.
This must've been the 1st time a Time lord fainted when Runcible saw the camera technician in the camera, dead and shrunk. He should've gone back to the records room with the Doctor, the castellan and that security guard so he wouldn't have gotten killed.
It looks so crisp and clear the picture quality

"No wonder we couldn't find him" lol
Oh Gawd, should have re-recorded the ambient sound (talkin' back-in-time to the '70s producers), I can hear every creak and squeak of the set as the actors traverse across it. In all honesy though, this really adds to the charm of this old show, makes it feel a lot like a theatre/stage production (but think how this could be re-enacted authentically today, live on stage! Would be fantastic!). I'll always love Doctor Who, for all time!
Never forget this one the Master back after three years played by a different actor as a Fried looking grim reaper.
To answer you question, I am the master!😈🤣😂
Joking
Would love to see all incarnations prior to Delgado I wonder who was those prior forms I think War Chief was an incarnation who regenerated into Delgado incarnation
Cool theory man!!!
There’s also a theory that The Meddling Monk, was a previous incarnation of The Master
Gareth Hayes well everything in the expanded media has proved that the Master and the Monk are both different people though
I always thought that Philip Madoc (the War Lord) would have made an fine Master after Roger Delgado's tragic demise. Madoc had a similar knack of playing baddies in a genuinely charming and understated manner.
The War Chief is a completely separate character, real name Magnus
How long has the Castellan been in service to not have heard of the Master?
Well we do learn later in the story that the Master had erased his records after hacking the Matrix
Why would he? The Doctor and the Master are low achieving non entities. Contrary to what nWho would have you believe there aren't only 2 Renegade Time Lords of note in the entire universe. The Monk and the Rani would be more well known. The Monk because he's a reckless idiot who drops atomic canons in 1066 and the Rani because she got herself kicked off Gallifrey very publicly after a distinguished career as its greatest biochemist. The Doctor and the Master are nobodies who probably weren't even missed outside of their immediate circles of friends and the Malfeasance Committee.
@@EditedAF987 Ah. That makes sense.
@@DarthAzabrush These Timelords certainly forgot they whole entire civilazation is build upon the Doctor's regenerative powers. Then again, this is probably something only the very ancient ones know.

Joshoaphat the Master renagage Time Lord
I always felt a bit weird knowing that Roger Delago died tragically in a car wreck, then next time we see the Master he's a decaying corpse. Maybe I'm being super sensitive but there's something about it thats a little off putting to me
Jon Pertwee was put off by it for much the same reason. He felt the Master should have been retired with Delgado’s passing.
The Time Lords hadn't invented SD cards yet ... they were still using ViewMaster (pun) 3D discs ...

The Master isn't on Gallifreyan record? Hmmm.
The Master had, at some point, erased all his records from every databank on Gallifrey, to make it far more difficult for the Time Lords to track him down or identify him.
The Doctor should've told the Castellan that the Master should be locked up in a padded cell for good should they find him hiding on Gallifrey after they saw one of his victims in a camera, shrunk to the size of a doll.
I love the use of the symbol for the seal of Gallifrey. It was firmly solidified in this episode... but it was not the first time it was used. Does anybody know where the shape was first used in Doctor Who?

The Master can't stop. The Time Vortex drove him mad when he was just a child. It's has always been one minute before Armageddon for him. The desperation of that removes all empathy for others and for the universe itself, from his conscience.
That NuWho shtick doesn't even exist when they wrote this story
This is before that nonsense was invented. Thankfully
If Sarah Jane was still traveling with the Doctor when he returned to Gallifrey after answering a telepathic summons to return, and if she saw a technician in the camera, she would've been scared to see that.

Rusky Time Lords.
Gothic & chocolatey & ice-cold all at the same time
The scene is great on its own, but is poor continuity - It was the Time Lords that warned The Doctor about The Master in Terror of the Autons just six seasons previously. Seems a little quick for them to have forgotten about him.
Oddly, the Master and the Doctor have known each other since they were eight years old. Both were once friends. Overtime mostly due to the Master's madness, the Doctor and the Master became enemies. The Doctor had forgotten his friendship with the Master before he left Gallifey. Then the Master reappears in the Doctor's life. He had forgotten his friendship with the Doctor
There are more details about the Doctor's and the Master's friendship before the Master's madness have overtaken him. Some of the details about the Master's and the Doctor's friendship can be considerable questionable. Many Whovians have likely notice that the Doctor and the Master were likely more closer. before the Master's madness have overcame him.
This whole the Master is mad rubbish is from Nu Who and a retcon.
