Robert Holmes did an incredible job virtually crafting an entire mythology in just four episodes. This feels like such a turning point, almost like Who could be defined by pre and post deadly assassin and Tom's a hoot at the end too. 😆
The Doctor was Neo, before Neo was alive.
Neo was alive. Keanu Reeves was 12 when The Deadly Assassin was broadcast. lol
I hear this is where the writers of The Matrix got their inspiration.
Lee Johnstone Also the Wachowski brothers are Doctor Who fans so never you mind um no😆.
Lee Johnstone Pays to be creative I suppose (if ones lucky)
@@TaliesinapCerridwen Thanks for sharing.
The Doctor entered the Matrix, and he did not even need a red pill, or Lawrence Fishburne.
Tom made a good call with this story in not wanting a companion--Sarah would have been standing there going--"He's going to die!! Get him out of there!!"--and Leela would have been pulling her knife on everyone.
Again another excellent clip and cliffhanger (my favourite cliffhanger from the season).
The thumbnail looks like the Doctor's been out drinking with a Dalek.
Also the most recent time the Doctor entered the Matrix, they were able to break it just by trying to understand the show's canon...
I mean, understanding doctor who canon is a pretty difficult job lol
In a Dalek voice, “TAKE A HIT OF THIS”
The thumbnail looks like he’s wearing a face mask! 😷😉
I love these jokes. Even time lords matrix can't understand doctor who canon.
Jedi Spartan 38 Flattely: oh hey Thomas old buddy old pal old chum
The Doctor"s and the Master"s fight in the Matrix is such an iconic classic Doctor Who moment, so brilliant!
Don’t you mean the Doctor and Chancellor Goth’s fight?
he kinda fought the master in the matrix in "the ultimate foe" but not in "Deadly assassin"
I think it was a hungover morning in the writers room for that end sequence
You don't need a Red Pill to enter the Matrix. You just need to play the 70s Doctor Who intro with a filter.
And a long scarf.
@@pastxmas can't forget that
I hope the next showrunner goes on this level of quality again.
Me too, Chibs sucks! The Timeless Child is dumb and ruins the show
@@djpookie2000 Some Storys from Chibnall are good but I am too not a friend from the timeless child arc.
@@rggb8156 Chibnall is good at one story at a time, he's not good at story arcs
@@GoddessOfWhim2003 he really isn't.
we need a new showrunner
3:00 the doctor briefly rolls back a few episodes into "Genesis of the Daleks" again.
Same director. :D
The Doctor, G1 Rodimus Prime and Neo.
That would be one hell of a conversation.
I'm in the minority and prefer the portrayal of the matrix in "the ultimate foe" but "Deadly Assassin" is a cool story
3:10 are you my mommy?
haha, this made me laugh so hard
Somebody just passed me this. It says don't get hit by the train. Well... how could I possibly forget that. For goodness sake.
*gets hit by train*
Somebody just passed me this. It says don't forget to wear a long scalf now how could I possibly forget that
This must have been so creepy to those watching back in 1976. Still pretty creepy now tbh
*Edit* 76, not 75
esp as a kid
@Bessie Belle Same here, and some of these scenes in the Matrix were literally the stuff of (my) nightmares. I was only 8 or 9, so I wasn't _very_ young... but I had a vivid imagination, and some of these images stubbornly stayed in there for days, perhaps weeks, later :)
The Deadly Assassin was broadcast in 1976.
Yes it was pretty exciting back in the early '70s We weren't used to all the CGI in modern special effects of today so it didn't did not look as bad
If only the current Doctor who writers or actors could channel Tom Baker. Fourth doctor was a doctor of confidence and setting things right for others. Best of all there were real solutions and occasionally they were painfully simplistic I was embarrassed I didn't see it coming
This is absolutely- dark
Chibnall really wanted an episode like this.
Quite a few sci-fi and/or fantasy series that have been going a while have a story or two where some plot device gives them an "excuse" to escape the constraints of reality, eg a dream sequence, VR (as in this case), entering someone's mind etc. The success level is variable but I think it works here. Ok, it's a triumph of style over content, but at least it IS a triumph.
The Doctor fought the Matrix before Keanu Reeves. 😉
The explosions were really the Blake's 7 crew on the other side of the hill. 😺
This thumbnail makes it look like the Doctor is being attacked by a Dalek
What are you trying to tell me? That I can dodge trains?
I'm saying that when you're ready, you won't need to. Because they'll have been cancelled by our lousy privatised rail system.
The matrix has sent the Doctor to the Island of Sodor. 3:45 Then there was trouble. 3:51 Bust my buffers! Will Thomas the Tank Engine arrive in time to save the Doctor? lol
I just noticed that his scarf is on when he materializes🤔.
this part was really creepy
Seeing that portal effect makes me wonder does the Tardis travel via The Matrix? Which would suggest that the entire show is a metaphor for our reality being a Matrix.
It travels through the time vortex. The matrix is an information bank, the time vortex is an extra layer to reality.
Love this idea x
No, it was probably just a budgetary thing to use the same effect. Like a wise man once said "The Matrix is a computer generated dream world" and can't have any links to time travelling.
Ah classic Doctor Who. Nothing like it.
Just your standard cheese dream.
Imagine the matrix like the Time Lords one being a superpower of your very own, and you can use it like Freddy Krueger in Anyone's dreams?
So here The Doctor has to be hooked up to that thing to go into the Matrix but 10 years later in The Ultimate Foe everyone just walks in there. Through a door.🤷LOL
Sad to think that this story was hated upon broadcast.
It wasn't hated, it got about 12 million viewers. If you mean that a few fans took issue with some aspects of the story, that's a different matter.
@@farmbrough false, it was litteraly hated as much as the timeless children (perhaps even more).
@@hothemeep1219
Maybe in the coming decades, someone will be sad that timeless children was hated upon broadcast too?
@@farmbrough viewership =/= appreciation. You don't get to decide whether or not your view counts towards the viewing figures if you didn't like the story
Deadly Assasin brings good things to canon imo Timeless Children does not.
Now this is going to feel a little weird.
03:31
I swear this is Amberely Chalk Pits
Life's a glitch and then you Wifi.
Without seeing the thumbnail I'd I'd thought it would be the Timeless Children
We dont talk about that one lol.
@@DanBen07 lol 😂
so THATS where chibnall got his concept from for the penticon matrix in series 12
The Matrix has featured in other Doctor Who stories, like _Arc of Infinity_ and _Trial of a Time Lord._ It made its first appearance in this story, however.
Just saw a tweet that points out the similarities between these matrix scenes and the matrix scenes in TTC, perhaps this was the matrix trying to tell the Doctor of his hidden past. The episode shares things directly from this episode as well, so I wouldn’t be surprised if that was Chibnall’s intent.
Wake up, Doctor
This happened to my buddy Eric
Oh dear.
My favourite... cliff hanger
i see what you did there
How big is that sirenge
The thumbnail for this video looks very, very wrong.
I love this story, the only story not to have a companion
Heaven sent
r.jay I should have added of the original series run.
Heaven Sent doesn't show a companion with the Doctor but it's basically everything about Clara.
@@diegofoliene3288 the image of a companion becomes a companion or is that weeping angels Lol
mrjekyll andhyde only if it’s Clara, Clara never dies, she may appear to but she’ll always come back, and if you say her name three times her hairstyle changes.
The thumbnails a but dodgy
1st and I believe I'm too far from the past ahead in the future. LET me pop back into my tardis.
1:53 who's screaming?
The man with the katana
0:32 was that an unused clip of the 1973 or 1974 dr who title sequence
🤩
Are you my Mommy?
Hej igen
This is really creepy
the matrix scenes are the only bits of the deadly assassin i like,, find the rest pretty dull tbh
Lol I'm the reverse of that I prefer the scenes on Gallifrey
Probably not first
Not first
Henry To no I wasn’t , I saw how many views the video had and I wasn’t the first
Ben Hart yes you are lol
mAkEs a change from the
"first"
"no-one cares"
conversation
третий
no-one willing to be first.
Why
33rd lol
not the first
I love this but it was more of a play in school lol
I should think that probably that's what Chibnal saw and got inspired but it's very obvious how he knows nothing about classic who.
Also, all this year's passed and this is still as creepy as it was the first time I saw it. People back then really knew what they were doing!
So this was the original matrix I prefer the new one
3:12 are you my mummy?
