- In today's video we'll take a look at this 1993 Corvette 40th Anniversary Six Speed Coupe that has been sitting unused and improperly stored for many years.
Watch as I discuss how such a desired piece of machinery falls between the cracks and ends up being discarded like yesterday's trash. I'll also point out the telltale signs I used to identify and verify that was in fact a low mileage Corvette in spite of how bad the exterior looked.

Hope you can save that car I have a 1977 Corvette stringray that I got when I was 16 years old and it still like new to bad the people that got that Corvette didn't take care of it yes they are alot of work to take care of them but if you love the car you will take care of it mine has had problems but I still work on it and take care of it no matter what
Hey Albert, I'm definitely the man for the job. I enjoy saving these orphaned Corvettes, and save as many of them as I can.
Be cool man. He's just sharing the story of his long term love affair with his Corvette. Sometimes its easy for us old guys to get things wrong😁.
@@rea8755 I know 1976 was the last year for the word stringray that was put on the fender but if you look at a 1968 though a1977 they are still the same car with the small back glass and a map pouches for the dash and the gages are not coved in plastic and the sets are still one piece not two piece the only change for 1977 was the cross flags on the fenders and a leather steering wheel and no wood grane on the door panels the engine is still from 1976 and my Corvette came off the line in 1976 for the 1977 model year so my Corvette has some of the parts that was left over from 1976 on my Corvette that is why I still call it a stringray even though it don't have the word on the car nether did a 1968 it had nothing on the fenders but it was still a stringray
@@VetteSource 👍
Assuming its parked in a garage, are they really more work to maintain than any other car from the same era?
This video is right on so many levels, a lot of cool cars from the 80s and 90s just get ditched because a lot of people don't know how to work on them which is sad because its nothing to be afraid of, I am almost 20, don't even live in the US so have it hard with parts but I bought a 88 Firebird survivor and this is my first project car. You can figure out everything if you want it enough, the people who ditched these cars simply weren't eager enough so these cars sit and wait for somebody who is
Excellent post Nick. With grit and determination, quite a few of the old forgotten machines from the past decades can be brought back to life and made very functional drivers. Keep up the good work, young man👍.
They are 1000% easier to work on then new computer controlled cars
@@VetteSource Yes exactly, these cars are far from rocket science I don't get why so many people don't dare to work on them
@@ChrisHally45 No shit man, but with my 3rd gen Firebird things started to move into the computer direction
Exactly👍
"The Vette gets em wet" RIP Bill Paxton! Nice find man, super cool it's a manual 6 speed!
Bill Paxton, my favorite actor from Aliens. "Yea man, why don't you go outside?"😁
I work in a corvette specialty shop. You know your stuff! Really cool! Definitely subscribed!
Hey Capps, thanks so much for the sub and appreciate the feedback👍. Corvettes have been in my blood since I was a kid. The best part for me is to share my enthusiasm for these great machines with other like minded enthusiasts.
Absolutely There are deals to be had out there I picked up a Corvette for 5,500 and it had 70,000 miles on the odometer did some minor maintenance change all the fluids complete tune up new fuel pump and the thing is running like a champ right now. Put 10k miles on it in 2 years and it feels great driving and enjoying it .I can manage 24 miles per gallon on the highway is the best I can do if I keep it around 70 to 75 mph. It's a 1990 corvette
For sure, you just have to keep your eyes and ears to the ground. The C4's like your Formula 350 make excellent daily drivers. I've been beating on my 1991 Formula for several years now, and it has never let me down.
@gearheadAbe awesome ..I’m jealous, that sounds like a great car. I like hearing that you guys daily them.
Very cool! So glad you're saving a manual C4!
I agree, the manual cars are great cruisers👍.
@@VetteSource I have a '94 Green C4 6-spd. It only has 52K miles.
I wouldn't mind picking up C4 6-spd project car. Really digging the 1989. The dash has really grown on me, and the L98 engine is interesting to me.
Yep, the L98 is an incredible engine. I have a 91 Formula 350 with L98 I use as a daily driver. Still gets incredible gas mileage, and dead reliable.
I watched the video because the Oldsmobile Trofeo. Looks to be in good condition. In 1991-1992 they brought this car to our electronics class and showed how “advanced” the electronics were for the time.
That's some cool history. I vaguely remember the reaction to these cars with the body control module, speedometer, and Sony Trinitron touch screen display creating a data line loop. Not only did they have the cool tech features, but you could use them to run advanced diagnostics on the car to see what was going on.
Looking forward to seeing you work on this car. Love it!
Thanks Bernie, this should be an easy resurrection. I'll have more videos shortly👍.
Great find, love you to bring it back to life
For sure, it's on my to do list. Too nice of a car to let sit for very long👍.
Nice car! Hope you can store it without degrading it any further. That’s the exact car I wanted for myself when I was commuting 60+ miles back in the late 90s and early 2000s. Can’t wait to see what you end up doing with it.
Hey Rusty, I've got a an indoor spot for it in the warehouse, so I'll be able to store it correctly from now on. I think it will be a pretty straightforward resurrection, and I'll be sure to document bringing it back to life.
I am so ready for that. One of my favorite year Vettes. I've got a big poster of it hanging in my shop.
Very 😎. I think this may be a quick recovery. I'm sure to have more videos sooner than later👍.
There's alot of shops that don't like to touch the LT1. I found that out when I had my 96. No one wanted to wrench on that car, like they were scared of it lol
That's very common nowadays. Most of them are scared of it because the knowledge to diagnose them properly has been lost. Lots of parts changers out there, not as many skilled technicians😁.
Triple purple 40th anniversary 6 speed. That is gold!!! That's actually my dream car.
Yea, it's a great looking car👍.
Thanks for reminding me to wrench on my c4. Love your videos
Hey Gray, no problem. Glad your enjoying it👍.
As someone who is pretty in tune with Corvettes and "projects" I can say you are very spot on concerning your assessments. I frequently get asked about Corvettes and the purchasing of them. My common answer is that I use a 2/3 rds. rule in my purchase assessment. 2/3 rds. need to be good upon purchase if not walk, Meaning good body / good interior / bad engine drivetrain. Good engine / drivetrain, good interior. bad body. ETC. Now there sometimes are added factors such as rarity, pedigree, previous ownership, celebrity ownership ETC. But as a rule, if 2/3 rds. are good you can still come out on your investment to make money as long as you know your budget and follow it. This I have found out works overall for any vehicle from Corvettes - 4wd trucks - muscle cars- passenger cars. At least it has for me for 50 + yrs. Tux Hadler / Simply Corvettes...
Great assessment. Thanks for sharing with the group.
Wow very nice. I would like to see your project to bring it back to life again!
Thanks, Bob. I'll have more videos of it out shortly👍.
Brian I believe you found a gem. Yes a rough gem on the outside, however, a low mileage beauty on the inside and can't wait to have you work on it especially the BCM; very interested in that portion..
Yep, it's a nice one. I'll have an update shortly👍.
In my town I’ve seen about 3 80s corvettes but only one trans am
Yea, for some reason the 3rd gen F-Bodies especially the Formulas and Trans Ams are not nearly as common as they used to be.
i brought back a coupel 40ths cool cars /lots stuff goes bad and people give up
definitely, it takes quite a bit of patience and experience to sort through some of the electronic issues in these cars.
Can’t wait to see this come back to life, neat Tornado, thanks .
Thanks David, I'll be sure to update soon👍.
Is that a tornado? Great find on the Corvette going to be a nice car when you get done with it.👍
Hey Chris, you're correct👍. It's a 1990 Toronado that I dragged out of the backwoods of Oklahoma where it had been sitting for 15 years. I'll feature it in some videos later on after I finish up with my other lingering projects
Awesome videos. Looking forward to them
Good deal, I'll have some soon.
Awesome find good luck on your new project
Thanks Jackson, we'll definitely get the old boy back on the road again.
I picked the same car here in Canada. 40th anniversary edition. Same colour etc.... I am lovin it!
That's awesome! The unique Ruby Red with the six speed is something else for sure. Probably lots of excellent driving roads up in your neck of the woods.
Great car! If i was you, i would put some effort into trying to repair that BCM. THere are several mail-order shops that repair them, or maybe even a local shop. Not only would it make your life easier- it would greatly increase the value of the car having the correct mileage displayed. IMO As a C4 ZR-1 owner, it really warms my heart to see these cars get saved. I feel like the C4 is very very underrated.
Underrated they are. It's like the worst kept secret among the Corvette fans. I have heard about the BCM rebuilders and was starting to look into seeing if there was a way to recover and save the mileage stored in the MEM-CAL, but luckily it started working again after keeping a trickle charge on the battery all week.
With a functional BCM, it's simply a matter of getting the fuel and spark back online and addressing any small residual issues. I'll have an update soon showing how many miles are on it and highlighting the next steps I'll be taking.
Thanks for the comments and have a great Thanksgiving👍.
There really aren't that many of them considering the current population between Canada/USA/Mexico and the few scattered around the world. I've seen a few in the UK.
Even more rare when you get down to specific years. E.g. only 50k 1984s. Only x-number of those crossfire smallblock 350s. Price has to go up from rock bottom 5k.. in 10 years our cars will be 10-20k easily.. 40 years from now could be 100k with inflation.
Yep, it will be interesting to see how things turn out with the C4's over the next few decades.
On those Corvettes, for every dollar you put in to them, you're lucky to get .29 cents back... Im in SoCal, $5000. C4 and C5 Corvettes are the norm.... They're really hard to sell.. Corvettes are an impulse buy.
For sure, but I always remind myself it can be more about the fun than the money.
In my town, there is a Purple 94 parked outside now for over 20 years on gravel, no cover, moss growing out of the doors.
Yeah, it's a sad sight to see. I try not to judge too much because I don't know what's going on with the owner and difficulties they may be having that causes the cars to end up in that state.
I got a 94 Firebird Formula a few months ago that sat in a box for 20 years, still getting it to perfect condition but that was a find and a half
Yea, I love the thrill of the hunt and the potential to bring something back from the edge. Sounds like you've got a great project, love the early 4th gen F Bodies👍.
Oldsmobile Trofeo. I think there was a Toranado edition as well. Those front lights have louvers that flip up and down. It shared its platform with the Eldorado and Riveria. I love those generations of GM cars. They were packed with technology.
Yep, it's an odd thing. The car is actually a Toronado, with the Trofeo being the upscale trim package with ground effects and covered headlights. For some reason in 1990 it's only badged as a Trofeo on the rear quarters with an Oldsmobile badge on the taillight panel. A Toronado badge isn't on the car anywhere. Then in 91 and 92 they started putting Toronado badges back on it. Maybe the Trofeo badge confused buyers too much.
Like you said, these cars are loaded with cool tech that is used to this day and make excellent touring cars.
Good call! I forgot about those and you’re right about those late 80’s early 90s fun and different cars but built on the same platform. I was in high school towards the end of that, so they were now used, affordable, and plentiful. I can think of so many examples when I think about it. They made so many different car models and editions back then -way more then then present day.
Yea, don't get me started I'll sound like an old guy saying "back in my day"😁
I just bought a clean 85 with a rebuilt Doug Nash 4+3 that had been parked for 7 or 8 years. I paid $500. I already have a C3 so I traded it to a buddy for a $3000 truck that is now my work truck.
In the end it the Vette needed a fuel pump, clutch reservoir, an a fusible link. My buddy will have it back on the road soon. It's a good thing he saved it from me because I was going to pull the TPI motor and ECU and put it in my 85 Sqarebody then part the rest out. I love the look of a TPI intake!
Yea, the TPI is an awesome fuel injection setup, and looks better than anything else out there even today. Great deal.on the 85, sounds like you came out ahead on that deal. Just shows a little knowledge goes a long way.
Have a great Thanksgiving👍.
That car is worth saving. I just sole my 1988 and I was lucky that I had a mechanic that knows and works on C3, C4, and C5 Vettes. he knows them like the back of his hand.
Yep, a technician skilled in Corvettes always helps. This car will be an easy resurrection, especially now that the BCM decided to wake up after I ran some power through it for several days. It will make a great daily driver👍.
Have a great Thanksgiving!
_You're absolutely one hundred percent spot on about the car. This ruby was maybe 45K when new in '93(in today's dollar that's about $92,000)! For those that don't know, the average car buyer today can't afford that kind of money to buy a vehicle. Somewhere prior to the market crash in '08, C4's were collected, driven, saved, coveted, and yes cherished. But with all used cars, they tend to lose their cache. (This car is absolutely a fully loaded 1993 40th anniversary Ruby. Sport seats, ride control, and a ZF-6 speed...I almost passed out at just how nice the interiior is too. And the car has the original Eagle GS-Cs on it)! What a perfect find, and I know you'll bring this car back 100 percent. Great channel, and really great video today. The carfax will be a telltale sign of the mileage most certainly. (The car parked in your yard looks like a 1989 Olds Trofeo. Prior to this model year the car was badged as a Tornado Trofeo)._
Hey Gene, great writeup with good information. The interior on this car is a rare unicorn indeed among C4's, and I'll go to special lengths to preserve it. Luckily, I've had a fortunate break through with the car this week, and will share some exciting news about it in the next video.
Good guess on the Toronado. It's actually a 1990 Toronado Trofeo edition, the first year of the lengthened body style. Funny thing is the 1990 Toronado is only badged "Trofeo" on the quarters and "Oldsmobile" on the taillight panel, but doesn't have any "Toronado" emblems on it.
Glad your enjoying the channel, I appreciate you guys watching and taking the time to comment. Have a Great Thanksgiving👍
Looks very warm their other then living in Minnesota had snow on the ground 7 days ago but cold is coming I look forward to it work on my motorcycles two of them that’s all I need
Yep, last week was 85 degrees, this week is low 40s and COLD rain. With the insane amount of humidity from being so close to the Gulf coast, it's pretty miserable to be outside for very long. Motorcycles are a great alternative, easy to keep in the garage and don't take up nearly as much space in the garage.
Have a great Thanksgiving👍.
The GS-Cs caught my eye as well. Back in the day I bought a lightly used LT1 Camaro and I had to have the factory GS-Cs. They didn't last long, but one of the best looking tires I've ever seen. I remember going to a place called Just Tires around 1996 -97 to get them replaced and they quoted a price of $1,300 installed for new ones. That's equal to $2,500+ today!
Yep, I agree. The tread pattern on the GS-Cs is phenomenal. Make me wonder if they did that on purpose to highlight them when you had a C4 Corvette hood raised. Even when I change these out on this car I am going to set them aside in the garage rather than dispose of them.
@@VetteSource keeping them is exactly what I would do haha. This talk brings back a lot of awesome memories. I used to have a Goodyear ad/poster of a black 1993 ZR1 with deep dish saw blades hanging in my room. The front tires were turned and digitally highlighted so you could see the GS-C tread pattern. There is no doubt that aesthetics came into play while designing this tire.
I remember that poster, very 😎
@@VetteSource I would love to find that poster again as well as the poster/ad BFGoodrich red 1996 Camaro SS.
Yep, those were great advertising pieces for sure.
Older EFI scares tons of people to work on, its not crazy hard to work on. Just it gives you basic info and you gotta make educated guesses at what is going on. I picked my vette up cheap because of them swapping to a carb but VATS still telling them nope. I got that bypassed, and added aftermarket EFI and got it sorted. It still looks bad, but that can be changed with enough time and effort.
Yep, patience is key. Funny thing is the early C4's ECM have about the same processing speed as a Commodore 64, so it not overly complex, it's just more difficult to understand what the computer is actually telling you when stuff breaks.
Previous owner abandoned GMC Syclone in Reno before sold it to me.
Yes I got it running and is not abandoned now.
Yep, those are the most rewarding cars to rescue and use as intended.
I love all the guesses about the Trofeo, but that body style was in production from 1990 to 92. It was discontinued to make way for the Aurora. I absolutely love that style and wanted one, but I was just starting my Air Force career and couldn't afford one then.
That's it. It's such a unique and distinctive body style it still stands out to this day especially with the homogenized blobs they call car that are running down the road today. Thanks for your service, my brother in arms👍. Always enjoyed working with you guys as I jumped out of your aircraft😁.
What a shame. I would love to own a corvette of any year ..even an 84😏
I’m real glad this one was rescued 👍
For sure. I'll definitely keeps you guys informed as I work my way through it. Keep your eyes and ears open, a nice Corvette project may find its way to you when you least expect it👍.
That car is an oldsmobile toronado, i remember them from the late 80s to early 90s. and no. No Corvette is a daily driver. Thats what happened to my 88, a lesson learned.
Yep, a 1990 Toronado to be precise. It's really more of a daily driver than the Corvette😁.
Have a great Thanksgiving👍.
I guess the biggest pain on a 1993 is it’s still the OBD I computer language and that may be why those are hard to work on.
It's not a terribly bad system to work with. It doesn't have as much real time data for you to work with like an OBD2, but if you are familiar with OBD1 it's a fairly easy process to determine which component or wiring harness is at fault. It's also much simpler than the OBD2 Can-Bus system that utilizes about 1000 pounds of wiring😁.
Yup…opti sparks and 4l60 transmissions have rendered many Vettes lawn ornaments.
That is true. Quite a bit of misunderstanding the system will leave them dead in the water.
Bought a '94 vette cheap. Most of the time it ran fine but every couple weeks it would just die going down the road. If it cooled down overnight it would start and run fine again. Chevy dealer had it a whole week and found nothing. Turns out it was a bad coolant sensor that quit working from time to time. Yup... a bad sensor will kill that motor. I lucked out and saw a code that for what ever reason did not store... 142lo. Impractical, uncomfortable, gas hog.. and I love it. Heater core was bypassed at some point before I owned it... my next project.
You said it perfectly. Our Corvette is kinda like that high maintenance girlfriend, but we still love em'😁.
The Ruby Red editions are collectable.
That they are. They've got quite a dedicated fan base.
Great content
Thanks Rep, glad you're enjoying it👍.
Missing the 40th center caps that matched the car. I didn’t care for em
But they are correct. Solid car!
Yea, nor my favorite color combo, but it's very hard to find them this solid after they've been neglected for so long.
PaintSociety is starting a C5 respray series.
Would complement this quite well I think.
Sounds pretty cool. I'll have to check it out👍.
Damn, that freeway is loud!
That's for sure. After many years and the installation of very thick double paned windows you barely notice it all😁.
@@VetteSource Yeah, I-10 is across from me in open desert with a hill between about 3 blocks, and the Trucker's Jake Brakes at night are pretty load but nothing like what I hear in your vid...
Yea, the country desert life is pretty cool but man can you here those trucks from a LONG way off, especially if they're using the Jake Brakes.
Have a great Thanksgiving👍.
Best of luck resurrecting the old gal. old corvettes deserve to be daily driven. By the way, is it possible to transplant an early C4 digital dash to a late C4? That would be a neat project!
Thanks Cirus, this looks to be an easy resurrection. That would be cool to retrofit an early "Atari" dash to a later C4, but that would probably be one of those electronic nightmare jobs that would end up with you pulling all the hair out of your head.
Tornado TOEFLO. I really like those Oldsmobiles when they came out I think that Corvette is a nice very nice fine.
Yep, these Toronados still look futuristic to this day, and make excellent road cruisers. The Corvette is coming along nicely, and I should have an update soon.
Have a great Thanksgiving👍.
1990-1992 Oldsmobile Toronado Trofeo. I LOVE those cars, such a cool looking car. I always loved the interiors. That's a blast from the past!
For sure, and you definitely don't see them around very often. Most of them were wadded up and thrown away.
Love the Toronado
Yep, the Toro is super unique and has some of the coolest options you could find on a car back in the day. Plus it just looks futuristic even 30 years later.
Great video.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it👍.
Hello Brian nice video again it's very sad about that 93 Corvette anniversary my guess is you have to have a garage to really take care of a Corvette to keep it in good condition the Corvette you're showing here the 93 anniversary you said in the video you can no longer figure out the mileage that's on it at this moment does that mean you have to sell the vehicle as a salvage title if you do sell it? And this is the kind of car that I want for daily driver keep the good videos coming and keep living the Corvette lifestyle and Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family thank you for your time you have a good day
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family as well, Kenny. Luckily the BCM began working after a few days of leaving a trickle charge on the battery so I'll have an cool update for you guys in the next video. If you're dealing with an older car with an electronic odometer you can title and register them as "Exempt" or "True Mileage Unknown". The salvage designation is really only for a car that's been involved in an accident that involves the insurance making a loss payoff against it.
They did have the GSCs on the V8 powered f bodies. I bought a new 94 z28 and that's the tires on it from the factory. Some years they were an option if you didn't want the speed governed. They were really cool tires for the time but very expensive for the time. I also remember looking at a 40th edition in a dealership and a dealer asked me if I was interested in buying 1 and I told him that I couldn't afford it because I was only 17 at the time! Maybe 16! That other car is an Olds Toronado
Hey Brian, thanks for the reminder. I could have sworn I remembered something about them being in the F-Body cars, but couldn't remember which year they were offered. Still very cool looking tires to this day.
Those car salesman, they would try and sell anything to anyone just for that commission😁.
that is a nice find. i think i need a vault!
Just my fancy way of saying "I got a big garage"😁.
Going to cost a lot of money to save that car
Not as much as you might think. I'll provide a cost breakdown when I'm done.
Have a great Thanksgiving👍.
Use to have one. Electric gremlins were starting so I let her go.
Yep, I understand. Those are tough to deal with if you don't have the right diagnostic aids and time to troubleshoot.
I have a c4 black rose vette im 18 and i love this car to death! Too bad people do this 🥲
Yea, life can sometimes get in the way of our prized material possessions, and they end up being orphaned by family or friends that don't know any better.
Sounds like a great first Corvette you've got there. Back when these were new, every 18 year old in town would have killed to have a new Corvette👍.
Not a bad looking Toronado. The yellow firebird formula in the driveway reminds me of my
yellow 87 firebird formula from way back when. The Toronado looks like it's a 93 with the trofeo 📦 package.
Close, it's a 90 model. I love the Yellow Formulas. There's so few of them out there, I rarely meet any other owners👍.
@@VetteSource Yeah .my 87 was equipped with the base 305 4 barrel V8 , it wasn't fast but it
looked good and the women liked it especially with the T tops off
on nice days.
Yep, good times in the late 80s and early 90s👍.
I usually just look at the brake pedal wear, gas pedal wear, steering wheel wear, the drivers carpet area and door jam seals as well. As an automotive detailer I naturally have an eye for these commonalities.
Hey Jimmy, great tip! Thanks for sharing.
Interesting and informative video, kudos!...I have a 1993 Vette, 6 speed, with about 86k miles. I purchased it 2 years ago, spent a year and a half in a shop, and $1,200 later (Optispark and fuel pump replaced, etc.) I still have not driven it one mile. Anyone here knows of any experience and reliable Vette Tech in the Deltona area??? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Lou
Lou, thanks for the kind words. You may have some good local repair shops that somebody can chime in on. Personally I have begin to utilize Google Maps reviews. It's a good way to take a closer look at shops and read detailed reviews, good or bad from customers and see how the owners respond to negative feedback.
Unfortunately a restored car from the 70s-90s Malaise Era will likely not be worth as much as it costs to restore it so you just have to love the car for what it is..
That is the sad truth for cars of this era. Too complex with too many electronic subsystems is the death blow for many of them.
I always recommend to my customers to spend what you can afford to make it a reliable driver and then consider it a running project during your ownership. No reason to bury yourself financially in something unless your not worried about a return on investment.
@@VetteSource Yea they will never have the cache of something from the '60s.
Yep, I think going forward the Art Deco styling of the 30's, Rocket styling of the 50's, and aggressive Body styling of the 60's will be considered the high point of human ingenuity. At least they managed to still pump out some interesting designs during the later years.
Have a great Thanksgiving👍.
I actually see a lot of corvettes sitting neglected. They have dreams, so they don't junk them like many cars. They may never get to it, and eventually they get junked or hopefully fall into the hands of someone who will restore.
Yep, the hope is that somebody will find these orphans and at least get them back into running condition if not fully restored, but I can't tell you how many I've found that are too far gone to save.
One of the last Oldsmobile Toronados. Early '90's.
Yep, that's the one. A 90 model to be exact👍.
Got an 86 that has an electrical problem. Bout ready to bury it and use it as a ramp for the quads.
Yea, the electrical issues of the computer era cars can be frustrating enough to make you want to pull your hair out. Hope you can get things sorted out, and if not you've got the makings for a viral YT video as you jump ATV's off a buried Corvette😁.
Have a great Thanksgiving👍.
@@VetteSource Haha, definitely an idea. I think I did it by puting the fuel pump relay on upside down. Now no power to the computer fuse and haven't figured out why. Hope you do as well
hey that's the same c4 ruby red like mind yep Z25 ( mine is not in the same condition!) lucky yours is a manual
Yep, the six speed makes quite a bit of difference. Too bad it looks like it was dragged out from the bottom of a river😁.
Sweet Toronado Trofeo
Yea, I just took it out for its maiden voyage today. Love the way it cruises👍
I have a 93 as well Black with Tan convertible & gut with 66k
Black with tan is a nice combo. I have a 92 convertible lurking around here, black with red guts. Here's a link to the playlist-

Just found your channel and appreciate the content. I'm a 68 year old Houston man and have decided to get a Vette, I'm thinking a 94-96 would fit the bill based on many you tube channels I've seen. I do plan to drive the car frequently, not a garage queen. Couple of questions: what do you consider as to max mileage for consideration (I know there are numerous factors) and where do you find yours? Looks to me they are fairly scarce around here. Thanks
Thanks, glad your enjoying the videos. You're correct, the 94-96 C4's are the best ones to buy for a first time buyer. By this point they were well sorted out, and even though they have little quirks that need attention from time to time are great road cars.
I would look for one with around 90-120K miles. These still have plenty of life in them, and as long as the maintenance has been somewhat kept up with will be fairly reliable. Also, due to them being "high" mileage cars you can find these at very reasonable price points. Of course, expect to pay a little premium for six speed or highly optioned cars.
Right now the best resource for finding local cars is still FB and CL. I also look at ebay motors to see what pops up for sale from individuals.
Let me know how the search goes, and have a great Thanksgiving👍.
@@VetteSource Thanks for the quick response. Since we're both in Houston anyway I can send links to get your opinion? Happy Thanksgiving
Definitely, you can always reach through DM @VetteSource on FB or IG.y full contact information is there as well.
Oldsmobile Trofeo my friend had a Riviera, same touch screen
That's it. I had to send the touch screen out to a specialist to repair, but it works perfectly now.
Like the Red Oldsmobile
Yea, it's a very visually appealing car even 30 years after it was produced.
Have a great Thanksgiving👍.
Hey. I have an abandoned 1981 vette. Paid $20,000 for it in 2017. Funny stuff.
So I'm guessing it was in pretty good shape?
Nice
Thanks👍
There's a C4 ZR1 in pretty rough shape that's been sitting for a few years I see once in a while. Probably the same color as this. Worse than that was when I was 15 or 16 I went with my dad to one of his friends houses and he had a Mustang fastback half in the woods in his back yard and he said how he'd been offered $10,000 for it but turned it down like it was a good thing to turn it down. I'm 50 now and the car is still there rotting away.
Yea, that's always frustrating to see. The wasted potential of what an old car could be after being resurrected is hard to stomach.
Man the road noise in the background of this would drive me crazy I don't know I guess I live in a more quiet place👍😎🇨🇦
Its loud for sure. Double paned windows definitely help😁.
The Red Car is called a tornado trofeo. Its an oldsmobile that i believe shared the the same platform with the old cadillac sedan Deville of the time
Exactly, although I believe it was the Eldorado and Deville, and also the Buick Riviera.
You are correct. It was a very interesting car when it was released. Slated as ahead of its time because of the screen display amongst other tech advances. I tend to think of it as oldsmobiles next to last attempt to change the brands image prior to the release of the first generation Olds Aurora.......of which was a true game changer for Olds.
The podcast of the 40 anniversary vetted was great!
Thanks Leland, appreciate it. We just got the touchscreen back a week or so back and it is too cool to play around with and see it in operation.
Have a great Thanksgiving👍.
Bring it back. Make it great.
Definitely, confirmed the mileage last night, so I'll have another update on it soon👍.
Its a Toronado, but is it a "Trofeo"? My 1988 Reatta has the same touchscreen I believe.
Yep, it's the upgrade "Trofeo" model. Funny enough it doesn't say "Toronado anywhere on it.
There are so many Corvettes that it doesn't make sense to restore a beat up one when you can spend a little more to get a good one that's already running and driving. Spend your time enjoying it rather than fixing it. If it was a rare car then it would make more sense.
Funny thing is this model, while not especially rare is difficult to find in decent shape to potentially use as a driver. Many of them were put away in storage and used sparingly like this one was. All Collectors series Corvettes through the generations maintain a certain following, even if they're just a paint and interior package, so there will always be a captive audience for them.
In the case of this 40th Anniversary model, it is mostly original with extremely low mileage, and will make an excellent daily driver for many years to come. Spending money on it is more for the fun of bringing it back to life than trying to squeeze a profit out of it.
@@VetteSource I wasn't directing my comment towards you specifically. You're a content creator so you need to restore these cars for videos.
Gotcha, no worries man. Even though I'm technically a "content creator" I still deal with and have dealt with Corvettes as my main source of income for many decades now. YT is just a way to share my passion for these cars with like minded enthusiasts and the younger generations. If the Internet died tomorrow I would still be plugging away at these old Corvettes until I'm six feet under😁. Thanks for taking the time to comment, always appreciated👍.
It’s rare enough.
For sure👍
85 vet or the 90s felt like sitting in a bath tub
Yep, the C4 is definitely that bathtub generation of Corvettes😁.
That red car is an Oldsmobile Tornado like an 89 or so when it got downsized.
Close, it's a 90 model when they re-lengthened them for the last two years.
Corvette world or corvette warehouse in Dallas might know how to work on these
Yep, they sure do. I do ally own work, so I should be good. Thanks for the suggestion👍.
Been watching your videos I have the same car that I bought from the original owner only has 3885 miles very nice in side out. Need help getting it running I replace the sending unit and fuel pump also fuel fuses and fuel rely getting fuel to the rails cleaned out the tank when I put new pump but still won’t start it starts when I spray starting fluid down the throttlebody. What can be the problem any thing Notorious for the c4s PLEASE let me know thanx
I had a 85 c4 same problem, would start with starting fluid changed the battery it started right up. I'm thinking it wasn't getting enough current to the fuel pump. Sold it to a guy and it's still going a year later. Good luck
My first thought would be the ECM injector drivers aren't pulsing the fuel injectors. I would purchase a fuel injector tester at your local auto parts store to verify. If they aren't pulsing then it's likely you may have an ECM issue. Let me know how it goes👍.
Tornado Trofeo!
You got it👍.
You should give that guy who got the c4 with protochrager and top a top for his because it’s better lol
Ok, now I'm clicking your talking about LegitStreetCars. Another person posted about his car needing a top and I reached out to him. Thanks for the suggestion👍.
@@VetteSource I was actually joking but yeah he does need a top for his procharged vette
Yep we'll see if he has time to get back to me. I have a few extras laying around😁.
Red car @ front lawn : 1988 Olds Trofeo...
Close, it's a 1990. That's the first year they lengthened them after the first radical downsizing.
Fix it up mechanically, wheels and tires, slap a nice wrap on it. Good to go. 👍
Not a bad idea👍.
Did you purchase it from an owner or just found it? If so, how do you title it & get keys for it?
Hey DZ, it was purchased from the family of the owner after they abandoned the car and moved away. In this case, cars like this are usually sold on a Bill of Sale, and you will have to follow your states procedure to file for a Bonded Title. Luckily this car had keys. If they had been missing, I would've had a locksmith come out and make a new set for me.
the C4 is a great daily if taken care of.
Exactly, couldn't agree more👍.
I need a driver information center module for my c 5 do u have one ?
Hey AJ, I do have one available. Go ahead and send me a DM @VetteSource on FB or IG and I will get you squared away👍.
nice trofeo....
Yea, it's a really striking body design, even 32 years later.
@@VetteSource I agree, body design was futuristic, the interior lux, and the electronics were ahead of their time. btw, I have a 90 C4, polo green and I love it. Just solved the big oil leak mystery : (was the best case scenario) oil pressure sending unit. Now it's perfect.😁
There you go. Sometimes it's the simple things👍.
Have a great Thanksgiving.
40th anniversary..1993 Corvette
Ruby Red on Ruby Red..
If it looks that bad on the outside
You need not look further...
Good for parts though..
You must not have watched the rest of the video😁. Definitely not a parts car. It should be running in the next few weeks.
I’m looking for an abandoned C7 or C6
You know, I'll bet there's one put there somewhere. Just keep your eyes open and ears to the ground and you never know what will surface. Good luck with the hunt👍.
Olds Trofeo
Yep, that's it👍.
that is the right wheel cross flag for c4, but it supposed to have the 70th logo.
Yep, the center car should be the same Ruby Red as the rest of the car.
@@VetteSource well would sell it just like it is
Not right now, but thanks for the offer👍.
And to boot a 6 speed!
Definitely the icing on the cake👍
Sidewalk parking😂😂😂😂
Is there any other way?
I bought a Corvette over a Mach one Mustang about 25 years ago. What a mistake. Lol
Yea, the decisions that always haunt us. Now if had been a 67 427 Crorvette you bought maybe not so much😁.
@@VetteSource it was a 79 with a 427 slotted in. Rare car in the UK. I sold it quickly and always remember the Mach one.
Oh yea, that's the great thing about a C3. You can cram a BBC in any of them all the way up to 1982 and surprise many of the other cars on the road😁.
Thats an Olds Toronado. If i remember correctly.
That it is. I'll have a few videos out on it shortly👍.
Yep. I haven't seen another on the road since I acquired this one.
Corvettes the crazy cost to much to fix. Unless you’re a good mechanic
And that I am...😁
Have a great Thanksgiving👍
Good grief! I would sell my wife for a Maroon 6speed, '93 Anniversary! Damn
Don't let her see this post then. You may be banished to the garage with no wife or Corvette😁
Send pictures. Will you take payments?😅
Good one👍. If I did that then I'd probably be in the doghouse😁.
Yes they are. There is one sitting in the circle of our cul de sac right now. It's been there so long the fiberglass is degrading and the rear of the car is covered in lichen like mold. I guess it's technically not "abandoned" but the owner sure seems to have developed a permanent case of procrastination with the fucking thing.
Yea, that happens alot. The emotional pull of a car that has good memories and stories associated with it makes it hard for the owners to let go. Seen it many times and ended up buying many of them over the years. Sadly by this time they've become parts cars that I end up breaking down for parts.
Thanks for the comments and have a great Thanksgiving👍.
