So when she had a riding crop it fit in..don't know why they ditched it for 15 but, eh, it is what it is.
Honestly I'm glad that the riding crop is gone. Not because I have a personal vendetta against them, but she had it in KOF 13 despite never using it in her attacks, and I've come to discover that I get extremely annoyed when a character has a weapon on them but doesn't actually use it at all. At that point you're just taunting the player with a potential moveset that the character COULD have, but doesn't.
Btw, fun fact: Geese Howard isn't dead in the KoF Timeline. FF and KoF are separated timelines which is why he's alive in '96, XI, and XIV. The Nightmare Geese costume ia a reference to Maximum Impact (for some reason). The reason is because no one told the KoF devs Geese was gonna die during the making & release of '96. Still Terry adopts Rock Howard. Why? How? No One Knooows.

I really don't get where Max gets that Geese and Rock are KOF "mainstays." Rock has been in ONE mainline KOF (14), and he was DLC and non-canon. Geese has been in TWO mainline KOFs (KOF 96 and KOF 14), the other two he was in were Dream match releases that added him for fun (98UM and 02UM). Geese is a mainstay in Fatal Fury and Rock was only in the last Fatal Fury game ever over 20 goddamn years ago (and yes "Garou" IS Fatal Fury, SNK just never localized it for some reason, maybe they ran out of money, that's when they were about to go bankrupt. Oddly enough the Dreamcast port was localized.) To explain the Fatal Fury/Garou thing, think of it as Resident Evil/Biohazard or Street Fighter Alpha/Street Fighter Zero.
To be fair, only people that actually like videogame lore would know anything about kof, and even then in the northern americas thats a rather small percentage of them. Max has made it very clear in just about every video he so much as utters something about lore that he could not care less about it, even in fighting games that he actively plays and loves. The most he probably knows about is street fighter, and that’s just because it’s the most “white bread” story imaginable.
Also playing since '94 and TBH that makes it tough to really be disappointed. Daimon & Kim have always been mainstays for me. I love Kasumi. Wish Xiang Fei & Vice were here. But it's ok because after playing so many iterations, I've still got like 10 other favourites here I can turn to.
Agreed. Seems the producers have taken variety into some consideration. Variety like, "OK, we'll have some of the staples but we'll put in other people in the base roster and figure the rest later, maybe DLC". I think of it like band concerts - they can't play all their hits every single time or else people will get tired of it.
for a KOF veteran the roster is amazing, top favourite characters are already in the base roster (vanessa, angel, blue mary, mai, shermie, ash, k) also, all the 4 main characters and their villains of all the series are there (kyo-iori, shun`ei-isla, ash-elizabeth, k-kronen) for me kronen (k9999) was the character who really shattered my expectations the only characters this roster needs to be the best of the best are: Kim and Rugal (maybe Rock and Gesse)
i can dig it! im probably running ikari warriors since i love them so much, although likely will keep Ralf & Leona and sub in wit characters like Ash & Delores.
Pretty much the same way I feel as a relative KoF newbie, glad they got the main characters+rivals (especially Kyo+Iori and K'+Kronen), got most of my favourites with Blue Mary, King, Yashiro, Ramon & Vanessa. All I need is Yamazaki and Kim and this is pretty much perfect for me.

I really hope this game does well and gets like a Tekken 7 or SFV amount of DLC, because there are so many characters that I feel should be included in the game. Which is crazy because I think the starting lineup of the game is cracked, but there's just so many good characters in the series that I wouldn't be upset getting like 15 more teams.
There was a leak in reddit with pictures of other characters as stand ins for the real one...and someone that saw the picture guessed EVERY base character not revealed from that picture (like Angel and K999) If that ended up being 100% real, then it means that Rock, Geese and Yamazaki are going to return as one of the DLC teams
There is a trial mode advertised for this game, you can try every character and do their combos, that way you can get introduced to the whole roster & pick favorites according to BOTH mechanics and appearance instead of passive judgement
She looks so good, man. From the character model to the light effects (which honestly, the multicolored light is cooler looking than the basic white light she had before), to the really cool and unexpected super move (I never would have guessed Elisabeth was a fan of the Zelda games, because she took the Light Arrows for herself.) With that said I'll see you all in two weeks when Rugal is revealed as the secret 40th character 😏
Ryo is the hard-hitting heavy puncher, and Robert is the lightning fast kicker, and they shares a lot of moves. Ralf is the heavy hitter, and Clark is the grappler, and they shares a lot of moves. Terry, Andy and Joe share a lot of similar moves with similar commands. K' and Kula have essencially the same moves, but they're meant to be opposites: fire and ice... Kyo and Iori both have projectiles, anti air, rekka moves and grab moves, and they're definitely their own thing... And only now on SFV Capcom managed to actually make Ken an entirely different character from Ryu, in terms of gameplay...
Playing since 94 and for me this its most variety roster since XI (that roster was freaking crazy in every way) its a shame some characters like Kim are miss but help get things fresh and always its the DLC option

Yo this pretty much confirms that leak from a few months ago was real. If the DLC for this game does continue to follow the leak then there's a couple characters coming in the future Max will be very pleased with

Cults revolving around reviving ancient Japanese gods, then an evil conglomerate cloning the protagonist of the 1st arc and its effects, then, AN EVIL TWINK that's not actually evil, he's just misunderstood guys, and now...a time paradox that's revived all of the dead characters from the last 12 or so "canonical" games (minus '98 and '02, but you'd wouldn't know that from just playing the game offhandly) That lore? Yeah, totally straightforward and all that.
@Ares 0160 I think the point Phantom034 was trying to make is that the lore of KOF can be difficult to get into. Yeah, the lore's important and definitely makes the experience better, but you shouldn't need it in order to enjoy the game.
So, there are 14 characters that are "Solid maybe" or better for Max. Not a bad amount. Some of the DLC are going to be 100% I think we're gonna see a good amount of KoF XV on the channel, mostly because the net code will be there for it to be a fun time.

Yo this pretty much confirms that leak from a few months ago was real. If the DLC for this game does continue to follow the leak then there's a couple characters coming in the future Max will be very pleased with

I remember Max was planning a KOF Legacy: it would be cool if he completed each game with its canon team, but I'm not sure if it would be fun for him.
@Ares 0160 I mean, the overall L O R E of King of Fighters is fucking wild. Cults revolving around reviving ancient Japanese gods, then an evil conglomerate cloning the protagonist of the 1st arc and its effects, then, AN EVIL TWINK that's not actually evil, he's just misunderstood guys, and now...a time paradox that's revived all of the dead characters from the last 12 or so "canonical" games (minus '98 and '02, but you'd wouldn't know that from just playing the game offhandly)
That lore? Yeah, totally straightforward and all that.
@Ares 0160 I think the point Phantom034 was trying to make is that the lore of KOF can be difficult to get into. Yeah, the lore's important and definitely makes the experience better, but you shouldn't need it in order to enjoy the game.

So, there are 14 characters that are "Solid maybe" or better for Max. Not a bad amount. Some of the DLC are going to be 100% I think we're gonna see a good amount of KoF XV on the channel, mostly because the net code will be there for it to be a fun time.

I used her in 13 so i'm pretty happy, the "super" unfortunately doesn't have the same punchy effect it had in 13 with the dramatic pause into a big noisy explosion, maybe a stronger version of it still exists, otherwise i'm glad she's here.
I'm gonna miss her Neomax... But we haven't seen the climax to the end, maybe there's a trick on the camera angle

damn max’s taste is just😬💀💀but for some reason i feel like he’ll like he’s gonna try characters he doesn’t care about. ik a lot of characters i lm not into for either design or gameplay reasons i’m gonna probably try cuz this roster is just sick. and i’m a new ass KOF fan and can already tell how crazy and different the roster is. i just learned about the lore last year and seeing k9999 come back with an actual name and somewhat similar to his Tetsuo design was just mind shattering

It hurt a bit that Rock wasn’t in the starting cast, but I think my team I want to start with is, King, Delores, Bennimaru.
