      @ericskonberg5408 Před 4 měsíci +4

      A tragic situation brought them together. Corporate music kept them together. Michael should have ventured on his own sooner. He’s too nice of a man to admit it but he didn’t need a group to be exceptional.

      @thedevilinthecircuit1414 Před 3 měsíci +7

      People love to 'blame' McDonald for the change to their sound, but you have to remember Johnston quit the band and they needed someone to fill those huge boots. So they brought him in. He didn't kick down the door and exclaim, "I'm in the band now!"

    • @OFLHLGZ28

      It was a different musical aesthetic when Mac joined the band. They needed something to revive their flagging musical fortunes and he was the ticket. A lot of people didn't like the change in style, but it brought them additional success in record sales and radio play they wouldn't have had otherwise. They found a new audience. And Mac is still with them when they tour now.

      I was born in '47. After 4 years of military service I got into bands like the Doobies, which I liked a lot. However, I think they were wrecked by the addition of Michael McDonald's pop-music sensibilities and incomprehendible lyrics.

    In a world of rhythm and rhyme,
    Let the music take you on a chime.
    Feel the beat, let it guide your soul,
    As melodies and lyrics make you whole.
    Close your eyes, let the sound surround,
    With every note, a story is found.
    From jazz to rock, hip-hop to blues,
    In the music, find your own muse.
    Whether it's a symphony or a catchy tune,
    Let the melodies lift you, like a helium balloon.
    Let the harmonies carry you to distant lands,
    Where the power of music truly expands.
    So listen closely, to the magic in the air,
    Let the music ignite a fire, a flare.
    Feel the rhythm coursing through your veins,
    As the song plays on, let it erase all pains. Still listening in Fresno Ca 11.11.23

    The thing about The Doobie Brothers was/is it’s always about The SONG. Not one member outshines another , and the contribution is centered on the song itself. Some bands showcase a member or 2 , but the DB’s is a sum, equal of all parts.

    I know it worked for Road Angel on their 'What Were Once Vices" album, but I never saw the benefit of having two drummers! One more guy you have to split the cash with. 😄
