    I don't know if it was..But in the days of my youth, I traveled around, camping...fishing..even hunting (for substance) in a 21 window VW van! It have the canvas pull back top, 4 speed and classic 4 cylinder motor! I love that rig! I wished I owned one now...I wonder if it was built there?

    The most common police car here in Finland ;-) I like watching manufacturing videos, especially automotive because they have so much automation and the whole process is unbelievably complicated and I always wonder how on earth all the parts arrive at the right moment every time!

    Thanks for yet another informative and entertaining video Thomas. I appreciated the subtitles as well but may I suggest to next time make them smaller. Like you see on television. Makes it ironically easier to read and gives the text room to breath. Or just add English subtitles through youtube so viewers can choose whether to put the subtitles on or not.

    vw bungled one of the biggest business opportunities in the u.s. they basically created the mini van and didn't do anything with it. the sales numbers pale compared to what the big three did with it

    I wanted to ask, I notice on so many German cars they use lug bolts, instead of studs with nuts. What is the reason for it?

      +World Traveler东北 not only german cars, all european do so.
      i'm not sure but i guess the reason is, that if one stud is broken, you have to remove the whole wheel hub. if a bolt breaks, you still can drill it out. and there are also differences between steel rims and alloy wheels. the alloy wheels often have longer bolts than the steel rims, so studs with nuts wouldn't fit exactely if you change between steel rims and alloy wheels.

      More headaches for owners in the future........and creates more jobs for State Supported car companies in Germany,France,etc.
      Good question though.
      Sad the Transporter falls behind the Ford Transit,Peugeot-Fiat, and Benz Sprinter offerings. VW has left-overs "small bite" of this particular Market;competition is so much better.
      If the "Euro way" was so great, why does Toyota stick with sound lug studs on wheel hubs for 99.9% of their entire range?

      Most people in germany dont really care. If they liked Volkswagon before they still will do.
      If not, then its not because of the emission scandal.
      More general problems with boring design, a durabilty wich is not good enough for the high pricepiont.

      +thedon008 They indeed dont care so much about it as Americans do. They rather laugh about it and make jokes (on the expense of VW) but it wont change if they like the brand or not. As I stated earlier, I also criticize VW for what they did, but still the main problem of climate change are not car emissions but industrial livestock farming. So there can be no complaining about some more CO2 emissions from cars which make up about 10 percent of the global emissions while eating your t-bone steak with livestock farming accounting for almost half of the emissions (and even worse, mass torture and murder). Those are UN-figures btw.

      Totally agree there.
      And even if we will buy only electric cars in 10 years we havent won anything.
      As long as most energy is from fossil fuels there is no difference in overall CO2
      Only good thing is more newtonemeter and that towns have better air :b

      Radioaktivify I don't think we can say that leaving fossil fuel behind in terms of transportation wouldn't make a big difference. Think of China and USA, and even some big cities in Europe. Just switching to electric would make a massive impact on our lives. Of course, we need to change everything, not just transportation, but with transportation, since it's a change in perception, those other necessary changes will also come. It's just that people need to ask for that, in order to get it. Otherwise, oil companies won't just kill themselves, of course.
      It's not even a question of environmentalism. Even if you're a skeptic, fossil fuels are not sustainable. Why risk everything and not sacrifice a bit now for an earlier improved future?
      And yes, I agree about the animal farms. I'm a vegetarian myself for all the same reasons.

    Very interesting video. I’m a ford transit person but will admit the VW engine is probably better. The transporter also looks more posh than the transit. Transit is more rough and ready. I would have a transporter if it’s wasn’t SOOO EXPENSIVEEEE and had a horrible driving seat position. If they got their prices more competitive with Ford they will sell a lot more.
