I forgot the clip which covered my fifth point! The #5 reason is because of the customer support/company backing. Phil, Iggy, and the team are all humble and awesome people who work hard to get these campers out there.
I've seen comments that it is taking more than one year for orders to be filled, while the website explains that a cancellation requires a "15% Re-Stocking Fee." I really like these toppers, but...
@@kenhoward3512 It's over 2 years right now. Phil and the team are working hard to bring down lead times!
what's your mpg with that coffin on there HAHA!. awesome tour man I miss your 2nd gen.
About 16mpg average. Longer trips I see 18-20mpg, all depending on wind. Headwind up a hill? 12. Tailwind on flat? 20.
socalexpeditions damn a lot better than the 2nd gen
@@appleman812 Yes a lot better!
@@socalexpeditions I don't get these high numbers in my stock third gen, and I don't have a lead foot. I'd have to see your numbers to believe this.
@@ArbitraryLifestyle Go get gears and a tune like me, then report back
Would love to see the fan install video.
Also some videos of you camping in/ using the camper.
Sounds good! Will try and record this weekend using the camper. Hoping to get out for a day or two.
I take issue with comment of “upgrading to a third gen” 😂 nice little informative video. Next time, highlight those delrin wedges that make it easier to slide the sleeping platform.
It's an upgrade as long as you never drive it and feel how crappy the shifting points are haha! I miss my second gen a lot.
I will definitely remember to show the derlin wedges next time - They are a backsaver!
I’m skeptical that’s its 340lbs. I weighed mine and after and it was 500 lbs even. I doubt that my two FR windoors weigh 160lbs... Good review!
I got mine on scales and it was around 340 iirc. I have the printout somewhere.
socalexpeditions maybe the longer overhang on the SB where all the weight is at. Not sure.
Those FR doors weigh 70lbs each!
@@Tacoexplorer If you saw Anderson's response, your doors weigh 140lbs for the two of them!
@socalexpeditions Yeah they a bit heavy. Love the doors though. I find myself using the side doors more than the rear hatch when putting stuff inside.
How did you waterproof the bed, the back door and Tacoma tailgate?
Butyl and bulb sealing
how high is ur truck now? like what clearance can you go thru for underground parking??
My truck is almost 8' tall. I don't park in any parking garages.
I've wondered what's the distance from the top of the camper to the top of the truck, without any add-ons to the camper roof. Wondering if it can squeeze under a standard 82 inch high garage door opening. Tacoma from the factory is supposed to be 71 inches high. So that would leave 10 inches for the added camper height, plus an inch for clearance. I bet it's a no-go for parking in a standard garage. Then if you add lift, bigger tires, solar panels, ...
Do peeps just park the truck and camper outdoors if standard garage?
I need a fancier house with 3rd garage bay, tall door.
@@paulstivers3213 I mean yeah, I bet most of us just park outside haha!
Awesome rig; calvary blue 👍🏻
Thank you Juan!
Awesome vid man! Thanks for making
Climbing over a tailgate is not the best idea. A real back door like the Alu Cab would be much better.
All depends on if you use your truck bed or not for things other than camping, lots of things that door wont let fit in the bed.
Will it fit a Honda ridgeline?
Oops. I forgot I already asked
Will it fit a Honda ridgeline?
They make different models, maybe!
Older video but this is one of the only times I've heard someone mention how drivability and off-roading are affected by these. Thank you for your honesty.
@SoCal Expeditions, what did you not like about your bed build-out? I didn't see it addressed in any of your later videos.
I liked it a lot, I never changed anything
I’ve been checking out different ones, this is the best I’ve seen, it would be my choice. Appreciate you sharing, I’ll be following for more, love to see some adventure and sightseeing. Happy camping
Man! Awesome build! Got a new sub! Keep making making videos
Thank you so much
Nice review. I have a 02 tacoma and wanted something like the flippac but becoming harder to find. This looks like a nice alternative and they aren't crazy expensive (yet) compared to 4Wheel. Since it's so light weight would you have to beef up the rear suspension and what kind of mpg hit did you take if you left it on as your daily driver.
thinking of getting one for my frontier can you take me with you on a long weekend trip my name is jeff bed looks big for two
That's super awesome. Looking into it now. Thanks
Is powder coating it worth it?
100% yes
Have you ever had issues with the top sliding ? Are you using the standard mounting brackets or did you do something different ?
What do you mean?
@@socalexpeditions The clamps that attach the topper to the truck bed. Are they a standard clamp, or did you have the top bolted to your side rails on the truck bed.
@@Jmisslyn They are just standard clamps. 8x of them in total. I check them once every trip really quick with my low torque impact.
@@socalexpeditions And you have no issues I take it ? I like to go off road on easy to moderate 4 wheel drive roads and want to make sure that the top will be secured with what Vagabond has. Thanks for the info.
@@Jmisslyn Nope its glued on there
Wow those are some long nails 💅🏼💅🏼💅🏼
guitar nails on one hand
Thanks for making the video, I love my drifter as well. Do you know where the hear hatch seal can be bought? I need to replace the rubber piece as mine is too short.
Contact Phil for a new tailgate piece!
very good walk thru' and love the vagabond happy travels
Think I saw you on the 101 in SB on Wednesday... cool set up!
Wasn't me! But there are a few of us that look very similar! (:
I love vijana.
What was that condensation bag called and where can you get one.
Damp Rid, and Home Depot, Walmart, Lowes, etc.
Who built the cabinets? Commercial? Wonder if those or similar are available in Oregon. Super, nice clean setup.
Interior was custom built by previous owner!
@@socalexpeditions Curious if you have any more details on the interior build? Looks like some type of extruded aluminum. Much appreciated if you could point me to a vendor.
@@evanfranke3 Its all 80/20. I will be redoing the interior soon and making videos
Vagabond or AT Overland?
I am a big fan of the Vagabond! (: Both are great units.
Great video. I look forward to more videos
There is a version specifically for the Nissan Frontier with a 6 foot bed, but who in there right mind would buy one of those?? ..Ya, I just placed my order for a Frontier specific Drifter this week, at least its not a "disgraceful" Ridgeline! Haha. Your other video helped sway me from the AT Overland Summit, along with the $4000+ premium.
I've seen someone toss on a camper from a third gen onto a Frontier! It can be done - I think there was a fitment issue or it was too long.
Congratulations on putting your deposit down! You join the Tacomaworld forum yet? And you're welcome for the costs savings (:
