This is very impressive--in 1971. 50 years later, I really don't see the point, except maybe nostalgia. No matter what kind of synthsis that you do, there are more advanced, versatile and powerful units available.

Good points, and I'm with you, but if for example the DMC released a perfect copy of the 1981 DeLorean, do you think you could get one for $20K? Hell no, they'd be six figures minimum, even though there are WAY more practical and economic options for a vehicle. Because you wouldn't buy one if you simply needed a car, and you wouldn't buy one of these if you simply needed a 3-osc mono synth. You buy this thing if you NEED an ARP. Not for everyone, but I guarantee they'll sell out in a heartbeat to folks besides me and you. And I'll certainly enjoy the music people make on them, because the synth is badass no matter how you slice it.

@@homeslice1479 Classic cars are very popular, but, again, mostly for nostalgia. Nobody buys a 1971 Corvette because it's a better-performing sportscar than a 2020 Corvette. By Modern standards, it's a dog. Likewise, I understand that there's a market for classic synths, but I'm astounded that it can support the production of new ones in hardware, when much better newer hardware is available (and when VSTs replicate the originals cheaply).

@@looneyburgmusic The Arp 2600 is one of the greatest synths ever made. The Roland Boutiques are cheap plastic clones of Roland's own synths. The reason they sell is they allow people who wouldn't pay for the real Jupiter 8 or JX-3P, etc, to say they've got one. At least when Korg remake a thing they do it properly and FULL SIZE. Keep your Boutiques. This knocks the shit out of them.

I've owned three Arp 2600: The Blue Meanie, the Grey Meanie, and the Standard production model. The earlier models are next-to-impossible to repair, because the circuit boards are dipped in expoxy resin. The sliders are fickle as hell. The filter for the Grey Meanie was the best, but since Bob Moog took exception to the design (I believe there was a lawsuit, or threat of one), they went with a different filter design for the production model. It's a great machine to generate pulsating beats through self-oscillation. It's not as fat-sounding as the Minimoog but it's a highly programmable semi-modular. The most iconic use of the 2600 can be heard in Herbie Hancock's "Sextant" album (1973)

They didn’t talk about the price, but from the looks of it and the mentioning of it comming in three flightcases, this is not going to be a cheap thing.

Wonderful instrument, but some of my best patches took too much time to set up, so it wasn't live stage friendly, and (2) polyphony would have also have been killer. @@mitsanut5869 Nice DAT? Showing your age mate, although it is a format I still have in my studio.
As with any equipment that is a premium price of course there are many of whom it is out of their reach. Just because it is and they express their opinions doesn't mean they don't have a right to just like those who can afford it and those like me who wish they could but aren't prepared to fork out due to other more important financial investments. I could easily take it on credit but I don't do credit I pay for my music things upfront and won't ever change that policy.
It's a nice chunk of gear which is really a collectors piece as you can get it in software and Behringer are coming with a budget version. Personally I've already stated elsewhere that if I was to get it I would prefer to get the Korg as it's the nearest to the real deal but it's not essential to my set up. As for X Y Z gen I think you may be referring to my children or maybe my grandchildren but it's nice to be mistaken for youth.
For your point about "defensive" maybe if you didn't attack under my comment I wouldn't have given you the time of day. If the dick size comment hurt your feelings well just like instruments it's not how much you have it's how you use it. Happy? Maybe that will help "your" hurt pride a bit.

Of course no one can get one since the release was kept to so few. Speculation is that the “FS” or full size will be followed by a Korg mini (read cheap, crappy) reproduction. And yes, Behringer has thrown their hat in the ring with their out (cheap, crappy) reproduction. And we as consumers will just stand by in this race to the bottom without saying one word in protest.
I for one am speaking out and requesting KORK to step up with real production runs of the 2600FS. Runs large enough that they can actually use their economies of scale to reduce the price. I’ll even take mine in a cardboard box ... drop the price without the marked up road cases. KORG, recognize the demand. Listen to your customers. Give us what we want.

The thing I have problem with this synth that it is monophonic. No polyphony - in 2020?
Throw another 2 K on top and you've got 8 voice polyphony on Moog One and for another 1K you will have 16 voice polyphony.
Why would I need one voice mono synth in this day & age is beyond me.
And I am an old timer....and a fan of Korg, owner of Korg OASYS and Radias (fantastic instruments, btw)
Just visited Sweetwater Music at Fort Wayne and tested Moog One for little bit. (Went there for other reasons this time).
Now that's a beast for you. Moog One and OB-6 are two very serious supersynths. No need for this, unless one is independently wealthy and can afford all top notch instruments available today.
And Behringer imitations of the originals simply are just that: imitations

@@roseneathorganics2597 so what else are you using besides matrixbrute?
I personally like to have a choice of polyphony on any of my keyboards.
To me it's like having a guitar with only one string. No matter how good the guitar would be, one string's just not cutting it.
And for basically $5,000.00 I think I can get some other keys that will give me more for the buck.
Perhaps in 70's it was a killer synth. They should do what Moog did with their technology. Moog One has 8 or 16 voice polyphony so you can really go crazy there, and with robust sound as well.
But we should be happy with what choices we have today. Thousands of them

    • @mitsanut5869
      @mitsanut5869 Pƙed 4 lety +1

@@roseneathorganics2597 Waldorf Quantum is a good synth, no doubt. I just tested Moog One a few days back, I like it a lot but prefer OB-6 for the sound color. The price difference is not the reason, although no one wants to overspend for potential disappointment. I find Moog bass very friendly to my taste but the highs not so much. OB-6 is more balanced and does not feel so sharp in higher range. Hydrasynth - have to taste it first before I would consider it but it does look like it's a great instrument, especially for the price.
But then again, it all depends on how much you can squeeze out of any instrument. Some people can create great sounds and music on less expensive equipment because they know how to use it, and vice versa.
Anyway, have fun, nice talking to you

To whomever edits these "Andertons - Keyboard Dept" vids... Your live mics are cranked up so much that I can hear heavy breathing. When you do that, you also increase the noise floor.
