I must say this is my dream come true to FINALLY be able to get this ICONIC hardware synth that was introduced in 1971! You said it well, what a time to be alive! My life is complete now!
If anyone wants to know what the Behringer models add to this. Built in LFO, vibrato and portamento controls from the 3620 keyboard. VCO1 - LFO hardwired to FM in place of VCO2. Vco2 and 3 have switchable sync. VCO3 has triangle and sine outputs, same as VCO2. VCO3 has PWM input. Filter tracking via keyboard CV has dedicated slider, not just on or off. Envelopes have 3 different time factors to make them much longer. ADSR has dedicated gate in. Regardless of the sound I’d feel the Korg is a step backwards in a number of ways.
Got to say we particularly enjoyed being able to just sit down and explore sounds without plugging anything else in! Which is just as well because sound design on the 2600 is pretty addictive...
@@rexaguilar2353 I have the Behringer Gray model. It sounds great. But this Korg one just sounds closer...I'm struggling, that's why I asked the question, not to spark a debate about Behringer

Your knowledge of the 2600 is thorough - and that's no small feat. Even as a 2600 (Antonus) owner I picked up tips. (31:45 what it's doing to the tom or snare here is special)

The patch book mentioned (link in description!) definitely made us realise there are so many clever tricks to discover, eg. using the Ring Mod as a pseudo-VCA, also using the electronic switch at audio rates with multiple oscillator shapes going into it to flip between them and make more complex shapes! Oh wow, that would have been a fantastic deal even with repairs to complete. One supposes you couldn't have known if there were other surprises down the line as all vintage units need some TLC sooner or later! On the plus side...now you have a 'BNIB Factory Sealed Unit' option, albeit a little bit smaller!

We were doing some research on the Fairlight recently and were blown away to discover that it only had 16kB(!) of sample memory. Per voice, but it's still quite incredible to think what was achieved with that.

Yes it is! In fact the Gate input for the envelopes has been tweaked on the 2600m so that it'll trigger with +5V (much more common in Euro) rather than +10V on the ARP2600FS (and original!), and it uses standard 3.5mm minijack sockets rather than tini-jax on the vintage originals.
As Do'be says, yes! It magically powers AND receives MIDI through USB, and should work with most class-compliant MIDI keyboards with just one cable. Also, a super nice touch, is that the KeyStep 37 fits (very snugly, but still fits) inside the included carry case.
The beauty of CV is it's a (fairly) universal language, so that two pieces of CV compatible gear will complement one another, in both directions! You could absolutely treat the 2600 as an expander, a little bit like the MS-50 was an expander for the MS-20. Speaking of which, the only things to be aware of are differences in voltage level (some inputs may expect more voltage that a particular source might be able to supply. But to the best of our knowledge a Moog Matriarch & 2600 would be very compatible), and that there are a few voltage scaling standards - 1v/Oct which Moog and ARP both use (so they're fine with each other!) but also Hz/V which Korg MS-20's use, and Buchla uses 1.2v/Oct.

Can you run any external audio through the filters and reverb? If so that makes this so much more valuable to me
Yes indeed, from microphone to line level and guitar, it's an effects processor/filterbank as much as a synth!

We stuck the sticker from the ARP2600m package on a Keystep 37! You get an amazing pack of stickers with the synth.

Any of the various Behringer clones are more versatile and affordable.
The Behringer 2600 is a better deal, and much less expensive.
