  • Traction control is often more a hinderance to performance rather than an assistant to it, expect for motorsport applications and in high end exotics. Well, Powertune Australia told us they had developed a traction control system that would blow our mind. Why were we to say no to try it out.

    Good to see this stuff starting to make its way into the aftermarket. GPS derived speed is problematic at high rates (50hz) and at high accuracy rates such as 10hz it's not fast enough to be useful. The correct answer here is an inertial navigation sensor that uses sensor fusion (mag/Accel/gyro/GPS) to derive very high speed data (500hz) both in body frame (xyz) and globe frame (LLA). It will also provide lateral velocity data for cornering traction control. Hoping to have a product later this year.

    Syvecs/Life Racing have been the reference for Motorsport traction and have been doing similar for years….mapping on slip v yaw / lateral g / speed. Recursive decay algorithm is key for smooth power. 12 traction maps all mappable against practically anything with variable gain, recursive decay and slip map adders. Gps track marker can change settings per track. 100hz GPS for ground / radar etc. I run these and the best thing about them is the traction system. It’s good that motec are doing the same.

    car and truck manufactories... please take notes of this...
    not only for a car.. i drive several big trucks for work.. and when i get off the highway and trying to make a turn on a speed witch i know the truck can do ( usually around 50 km/h, depending on the radius of the bend).. the traction controll and ESP kick in and start to apply the brakes.. that is something i dont want because i can feel the weight of the trailer pushing the truck to the outside of the corner witch makes it unsafe.. sometimes i floor it to override the ESP so it doesnt apply the brakes but only cuts power/boost with the TCS so the problem is not just HP and car related.. this can also be helpfull in trucks...

    How are you able to control a bigger power N/A motor like a 440 LS7? I've been trying timing retard (as far as 0°) and richening up the mixture as far as 10:1 but it's still not enough in 1st and 2nd. Is ignition cut my only option? Not running DBW just yet. Cheers.

    • @sexyfacenation
      @sexyfacenation Před 3 lety

      That's exactly correct. Pulling timing is very limited to what you can actually achieved. This bloke talks about it like is a hidden secret. You can hear the car missing with timing cuts on first demo of traction control on.
