I think there is more to this landmark demolition than the government is telling Nigerians.Other countries without beach are looking for ways to create artificial beaches yet Nigeria is destroying a beach.A coastal highway that would need a beach to enhance the road, that would need a beach to justify the existence of such road is being destroyed.Even the distance of the alignment before it goes back to the original alignment is so short it does not justify destroying a beach for..Further down the coast, the road is away from the shoreline, avoided even smaller bungalows yet they are bent on destroying landmark beach?🤔There is more to the destruction of these places than federal government is telling us.Also Arise news, please dont only bring us infrastructural news when the minister is visiting,it would make more sense and impact if you report on the state of the country's infrastructure independently, with or without government visitation.Nigerian infrastructures would improve drastically the moment the media start showing interest, not only sending a reporter when the minister is going to be at the site.Thank you.

Does that mean there is no engineering solutions to this through diversion or creating alternative route to avoid this destruction. I was once in Portugal i observed that just to minimize destruction of people's properties or homes roads were constructed in a windy and narrow manner across some neighborhood in Lisbon. Of what benefits is the coastal roads when the existing roads in the hinterlands are death trap? Have we made all the existing roads motorable and safe? When you have people who are not enlightened at the helm of affairs, what do you expect(of course you know that buying a degree from a third party abroad does not mean you are enlightened). There's no main land roads in the country where you can drive for 30 minutes without entering potholes. Yet the government does not think it's necessary to fix the existing roads before thinking of a new one. If the coastal road is necessary, why not start with the bridge from Oron to Calabar and commission it for the people to start using and allow people at the beech in lagos more time to relocate. Why in a hurry to destroy their business when you know very well this project will not see the light of the day. PDAPC must not return to power in 2027 o.

Spending 15 trillion naira of borrowed money on this bogus white elephant coastal highway project with all the hardships facing Nigerians all over the country is purely wicked, evil and heartless. Saying that other countries have coastal highways is simply senseless. Other countries have fixed their electricity, insecurity, water supply, food security, quality education, and other basic problems. The only conceivable reason for the priority given to this project is the personal interests of Tinubu and his Lebanese business partner. Under the Constitution (and the Land Use Act incorporated therein), land is NOT owned by the federal or state governments but rather are merely “vested” in the federal or state governments “in trust” for the benefit and USE of the Nigerian people.
In a nation with probably over 50% unemployment, let’s destroy scores of small businesses providing thousands of direct and indirect jobs and supporting thousands more livelihoods, when there was an EASY WIN-WIN of reverting to the original alignment.

Majority of Nigerian road networks are not motorable, and there are many federal and state abandoned projects in many places, why would our government(i mean the cabal ruled government) embark on such an huge economic demanding project that will eventually yield little economic rewards? No doubting it, this is the dumbest government ever in the history of Nigerian politics, the misplaced priorities are sickening and financially cancerous, why would government bring down an hundred billion naira projects for something that can never(and should) replace the airports within the states, a project that its financial feasibility is way out of sight and logical reasoning should only exist on the minds of a dictator - not in a functioning democracy . Corrupt Government representatives will do anything that weakens the opposition or brings cheap embezzlement of the commonwealth of the country. Let's see if Karma will not strike the head of these monster called "corruption", alot of mistakes are destined to be repeated when the worse among the available ones manage the biggest government on the continent.

In 1999, someone wanted to sell a landed property to me in Ibadan. I collected the survey and noticed a proposed high in front of the land on the survey. I called attention of the seller to this and he told me not to worry about it because even In the next 100 years, government cannot even think of embarking on such project. I told him that I do no more interested just because of that. 7 years after, late Governor Akala of Oyo-State started the Akala dual carriage highway, and the land fell on the offset to the road.

I feel for the owner and the few Nigerians who are directly invested in Landmark. I hope they get decently compensated for their loss. Unfortunately, expropriation happens everywhere in the world, included countries with rule of law. It doesn't matter that it was not the original plan. @anthonyashiofu Před 16 dny

Hi @themark7948 Although I am a nobody I have an opinion about this. Here are my thoughts about this. I live in the USA and for the last two years, my family have visited Nigeria with me. They have been to Landmark about 4 times in those two visits. The amount of human traffic there and businesses is much more than we have at our coastline beach here in Galveston, Texas. The coastal highway is good but the change of design that directly impacts these businesses with international funding Is very bad. Multiple jobs, at minimum 1,000 jobs will be lost. Probably one of the best tourist attractions in Nigeria will be destroyed. Due to the history of similar projects in Nigeria there is great fear that this project may start and never be completed. It is tough to market the demolition of this facility and others around it as a good thing for Nigeria at this time.

Once again, Tinubu showing us all what an unmitigated disaster his presidency has been. Is this not the same Lebanese company that hasn't had a major project in their resume? Tribalism out of the picture, did this company actually do their homework? Just because it's a coastal highway does not mean it literally has to be on the coast. What I'm seeing so far at the Landmark site from all indications means that far more material (dredging) and effort will have to be utilized just to combat the effects of encroaching water and rising sea levels. What will this coastline look like in 10, 15, 20 years from completion? If the current road network is any indication, then this road is in serious trouble. What a waste.
How can you speak of the commercial boost this road will provide when you haven't fully optimized other forms of transportation provided by our waterways and rail? At N15t, when will this road pay itself? Just like fuel subsidy removal, Tinubu rushing headlong into hasty decisions without due diligence. I'm especially concerned with the speed at which they're breaking ground. Why the rush?
