No Personal Interest Associated With Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway - Umahi

  • The ingenuity of the coastal road came from President Tinubu when he was governor. He procured the right of way on the Lagos corridor and gazetted it. If you want to come out of inflation you have to prioritize investments in infrastructure, this project will address elements of return on investments.

I am Thaddeaus Longduut, residing at the UK. I am always listening to, and watch your programmes. You programme with the Honourable Minister of works and Transport, Eng. Dave Umahi. He dodged the question on fairness of bidding. High Tech might be the best company to handle the project but why was it not open to others? So that we could have seen the openness of the bidding process. Why the Government felt HighTech has the competence, therefore, others weren’t. I think that is why His Excellency Atiku Abubakar drown his conclusions that it was a friendship contract between His Excellency, President Ahmed Tinubu and the Contractor.

Senator Umahi just displayed his technical expertise at another level. I love his calmness and ability to attend to questions raised without being personal.
As much as Rufai was trying to bring out the need for significant financial transparency, he also needs to have some sense of respect when dealing with people like Sen. Umahi. My opinion is based on the fact that their guest has proven and kept proving logically and sensibly that he knows his onions.
Ruben Abati made some rude and unprofessional remarks in the course of asking his questions. He needs to be less carefree with his "lighter mode" remarks.

In other words, you should concentrate more on applauding the minister for responding well which shows he actually knows the in and out of what he is doing.
Remember, the minister included the Rail line gauge in his design as a yardstick to show superiority to the other design. However, the cost for that rail line was not included. Technically, that rail line guage alone might gulp 2times the current budget.

Kudos to Engr Umahi, I have watched his interview with Channel tv and now Arise tv on this same project. And we can see that he has projected a lot of confidence in his ability to oversee a project of this magnitude. As an Engineer he has demonstrated his proficiency of been able to explain the technicalities of the road project according to his design, to ensure the quality and cost effectiveness of the project. This is why it is necessary that ministerial portfolios are given to experts who has the competence to handle each sector rather than just given ministerial positions to Lawyers. As an Engr myself, I congratulate him on his efforts so far in the ministry of works. However, my concern is that can the APC Government carry out this ambitious project and ensure that it is completed before the end of their administration.

I read most of the comments here and I saw how almost everyone was commending the minister, that shows you that all these efforts are geared towards a better nation without sentimental attachment. Tinubu and his government aren't infallible so you people should learn to take criticism with a pinch of salt without needing to insult anyone

Good job honorable Minister of Works. I listened attentively to your explanations, and l’m impressed. My suggestion to you about all these projects is : Availability of “Rest Areas “ on these roads. The Rest Areas provides business that helps the economy of the State that the road is passing. The Rest areas will provide rest areas for trucks
, drivers that would like to rest, and people that would like to use the restroom. This is important for the maintenance of these roads.

This was a good outing. Arise TV was able to ask the right questions. Thank you always, Rufai; Ayo and Abati. Nice job!
