It is very smart to put these 2 performances up side by side. In ‘86 at Wembley in England you expect the crowd to know this song. In ‘85 in Rio, where English is not their first or primary language, they knew every word. Plus, remember, this was NOT the age of the internet, that wouldn’t come for at least 7 more years and then only to universities and to government. I remember sending my first email in 1993, and it was only to people IN MY WORK building, we didn’t get into networking to the outside for about 3 to 5 more years. The internet as you see it today, or even a version of it, did not exist in 1985. So the people of Rio had to get their hands on this music in the form of a record or a cassette OR be exposed to it in some way on television. I think that is what is so striking about it, they knew every word, and it really drove home the fact that Queen was big on the International stage. Even the USA started appreciating them more after Live Aid. 💗
yeah the amount of people at the rio gig is actually insane, that has to be up there with one of the biggest crowds in history
Freddie said he had a lump in his throat when the crowd took over in the beginning. His fans loved him to the end, and long after.
Queen forever ❤🇧🇷
No Brasil e outro nivel🎉
Kkkkk a primeira parte não é no meu amado Brasil. Aqui é diferente, amamos show festa felicidade 🎉😂❤
If you want to hear Freddie singing it all the way through, Montreal 1981. In Rio, I think Freddie and Brian were taken by surprise by the crowd singing it; it was the very first Rock in Rio, a huge huge audience (a couple hundred thousand I believe), and not an English speaking crowd. Freddie looks like he had a very emotional reaction to the love shown by the crowd.
I am thinking about doing a full performance, its just finding the time for reaction that long
@@Roryreacts The entire Milton Keynes concert is highly recommended .
O público cantou em São Paulo em 81
Remarkable the Rio fans solidly sang the lyrics and English is not their first language! They tell me that Rio crowd was chanting "Brian" "Brian" also.
Keep in mind, the crowd at Rio was not an English speaking audience, most spoke Portuguese as a native language, yet they had memorized the lyrics of this song and Brian's name to chant. If you're new to Queen, check out their performance at Live Aid 1985. You won't be disappointed.
This was AWESOME.... The performance at Rio gets overlooked most of the time in favor of the more-well-known Wembley version, so this was SO. GREAT. to get to see BOTH of them... THANKS!!
Primeiro foi em São Paulo em 81, depois no rock in Rio em 85
Queen love their fans & the fans love Queen they were all for audience participation We Will Rock You is an example they wanted the audience to have a great time & be part of the show x
yeah think I will do that soon, even though I've heard it a lot I've never seen a performance, we will rock you and we are the champions
@@Roryreacts they also did a fast version in Montreal 1981 of We Will Rock You it’s brilliant x
Pure magic❤️❤️❤️
Thanks, Rory -- the extraordinary thing is that in Rio - the audience speaks Portuguese as their first language - but they are the most enthusiastic singers -- !! - they also chant "Brian" when he is playing guitar -- lol
Yes ❤🇧🇷
RIO: The Works Tour in 1984/1985 was one of Queen's largest tours and included the Brazil Rock in Rio festival-in which they appeared on stage at two o'clock in the morning in front of 470,000 people during the first night and 250,000 on the second night. The Boston Globe described it as a "mesmerising performance".
Queen - Somebody To Love - HD Live - 1981 Montreal
I think the average person may not fully understand the significance of the technical difficulty and skill required of one who plays a 12 string, but I do think the average person can easily find the beauty of a 12 string guitar and emotionally and musically recognize "something" extraordinary about it, especially when played with the kind of sensitivity and beauty Brian did in this performance of an already tender and sweet song as "Love of My Life." Brian's performance is stunning. I could listen to just him playing that guitar in this song all day long.
Harmonics..that’s what you heard🤩
Only Freddie can make you smile while your near Tears .
❤️❤️
Queen's performance at Live Aid is voted MOST ICONIC festiwal moment of all time. Check out a whole set-20 min long.
They basically use that guitar for that song. Brian uses His Red Special which he built with his dad. 💕💕💕
Brilliant❤
🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Omg Rio -85 is fenomenal……have now more word……exsept crying 👑😢♥️
❤🇧🇷
Because they were fucking Amazing and Amazed at the fans !!!!!!!!! 💛💛💛💛💛💛👑🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Wow 🥰 beautiful Freddie ❤️ we still you Freddie ❣️ Freddie Mercury ❤️
Awwwww - You are diving head first into the Queen 👑 rabbit 🐇 hole 🕳😁
You get a “thatta boy” for doing both versions of Love Of My Life 💗 Freddie wrote it about his former fiancé & life-long friend, Mary Austin. IMO - I believe Freddie wrote the lyrics from Mary’s perspective!! That’s the only way the lyrics make sense to me. Anyway, this song touches all the fans .. as you can see!!💞

You're back! That was fun seeing both performances. I'm looking forward to watching you enjoy lots of Queen music.
You please check on Queen Live performaces such as...White Queen at Odeon and Somebody to Love in Montreal..
I’ve missed you! I haven’t seen you nor have I been able to find any of your previous Queen reactions. Hope all is ok, but I’m glad you’re back. Freddie had such charisma he could have asked the audience to walk over hot coals and they would have. I love the crowd chanting Brian’s name in the Rio version. This was a music festival and there were over 200,000 people who couldn’t speak English but the knew all the words. What must that have felt like for Freddie? It must be the ultimate accolade. Loved seeing both those versions in one reaction, thanks
I've missed all you queen fans, i knew I was going to make queen a main part of this new channel, no one showed love quite like you guys
yeah im going for the live versions straight away this time, haven't actually come across a bad live performance yet, so any requests let me know
@@Roryreacts Now I’m Here live at Wembley 1986. It’s so energetic, will really get your toes tapping
Great reaction, thanks! Nice to see you compare the two. The Rio one blows me away because of the size of the crowd and because they sang it in English. I can't speak or sing in another language so that is impressive to me. It seems to take a while for you to pop up in my feed but know that I do love your reactions and will try to keep an eye out. Have you seen the Green Day crowd that spontaneously started singing Bohemian Rhapsody in 2017 in Hyde park? Truly amazing. It was before the concert started. They even sang the background vocals and guitar solos. You should check that out if you haven't seen it.
It’s really cool that you earn subscribers by watching queen
For something completely different, Stone Cold Crazy Live at the Rainbow 1974.
And since it's so short, I'd say do the official lyric video and then the live version. Live version doesn't have as much guitar (although it's very very fast) and it's hard to make out the words. But it's got energy galore.
Better late than never(for me to watch that is)
Freddie was a fan of Jimi Hendrix. He sang without caution or restraint sort of like Hendrix on guitar. Not quite as different as they seem, huh. Hope you do more Queen - there's got be some surprises out there for you.
I'm not a guitarist and know very little about them except they are amazing... and I LOVE your nerdy guitar comments! Don't stop.
I really really enjoy your honesty
thanks, try to be as real as I can, and I don't edit, so I appreciate that
"What's your favorite instrument to play Freddie?" "The Audience Darling"
It was one of a few songs that always remained a staple of live shows. Always different, yet all fabulous. The Rio performance is crazy good wrt to the audience, all 250,000+ of them.
If on your own you want to hear pure Freddie & Brian try Montreal or late 70s versions.
To be complete, you have to do Montreal 1981 version, different but very very good. Love your reaction.
I think you should listen to some of the earlier shows, like Houston '77, Milton Keynes '82, Tokyo '85, Earls' Court '77, San Diego '80 (audio only but it's great quality), Hammersmith 1979, maybe even some of the South American shows like Sao Paulo '81, Caracas '81 or Buenos Aires '81. If you're looking for Freddie in a rougher state I'd recommend checking out the circulating Tokyo 1979 footage. Freddie's in very bad shape there (partially a cold, partially nodules, partially exhaustion) but the band still pulls through relatively well (minus a couple of flubs from Brian).
Good reactions, I like your content.
Thought I’d like to hear. Say it’s not true , by Roger Taylor. I believe it’s about Freddie. Also Where are you now, also by Roger.
His favorites were Aretha Franklin and Jimi Hendrix
4:53 so strong
