    The A-spec isn't JUST a cosmetic change. Acura adjusts chassis settings for the A-Spec for better driveability.

    • @cashivan

      senorgato70 yeah, a Type S would signify more power, unless they're one and the same now

    so people are complaing that an appearance package has no power boost, but when they see a BMW m sport or Lexus f sport people don't complain.

    • @jstun2318

      Todd Medium Wellington those sport packages are criticized for that but at least they know it's a step towards the hi-po brands that they are based on.

      Because bmw and lexus actually has "performance" models like M and F whereas acura doesnt. If customers want the high performance models its accessible for them.

      It's easier to take pot shots at a car with FWD roots than RWD sedans.

    The more I see of the '18 mid cycle refreshed TLX, the more I like it. This TLX looks much sportier than the '15 - '17 models. I love the direction Acura is headed with their styling. I think when the 2nd generation TLX debuts in late 2019, Acura is going to finally offer much desired performance options. Acura kind of dug themselves in a hole but it seems to me they are slowly clawing their way out. Kudos Acura!

    We have a 2015. It is a great car. Sure it "only" has 290 hp but it is a massive amount of zip to get on the highway. This is not a car that is going to make the boy racers happy. This is a good car for the middle class people who want a bit of performance and some luxury. For anybody looking for an extremely reliable, a bit sporty, luxury, larger sedan I would highly recommend it. The most important thing for people who live in snowy areas that few people cover, the AWD system is absolutely amazing. As for the new A spec, it appears to be a waste of money. Add 50-100 hp to and and tweak the suspension a bit and you would have a great car. All the Honda Type R fans need to move along. There is nothing to see here.

    • @mikexcanxjerk
      @mikexcanxjerk Před 7 lety +1

      joeuncoolio the tlx is a midsize , but I agree 290 horses is potent , wonder if the charger with 292 horses is faster , how's the gas mileage on your car ?

    • @joeuncoolio
      @joeuncoolio Před 7 lety

      We get 23-24 in the city 27+ on the highway. Maybe even 30 on the highway. Hard to say as all I am ever looking at is the computer with avg mpg and it might be 23 or 24 city, then we we make a few highway trips the avg goes up towards 26. I bet it is getting close to 30 highway. I haven't really driven a car in a long time as I have always driven a full size pickup or Suburban size SUV. The Acura is my wife's car. When I drive it, it is a very nice driving car. I was really impressed with it. That said, I still prefer to drive my pickup. Oh, the only complaint I have about it is that the driver's seat just doesn't seem to have quite enough padding in the seat bottom. I find it gets hard on the butt pretty quickly. I found that I had to tilt the seat bottom back a bit so my weight doesn't go straight down into the bottom of the seat. I have found that to be a very strange issue for me.

    • @tomeisenmenger6475
      @tomeisenmenger6475 Před 7 lety

      The TLX is compact, at least in the back seat. I really wanted one when I was shopping for a new car last year and was severely disappointed in the space. It's closer to the TSX than the TL when it comes to roominess.

    • @1231nlp
      @1231nlp Před 7 lety +1

      Tom Eisenmenger this car is a large car. It's dimensions are very similar to the new Maxima which by the way is classified as a large car. A tall driver would feel comfortable driving the TLX.

    • @tomeisenmenger6475
      @tomeisenmenger6475 Před 7 lety

      I sat in one - twice - and I am 6'1". It was noticeably smaller inside than my '08 Accord. The back seat was comparable to a new Civic's. The published numbers bear this out - in fact, the TLX has less front seat head room than either the Accord or the Civic. It also has less REAR head room than both of those Hondas and significantly less rear leg room. See for yourself: www.edmunds.com/car-comparisons/?veh1=401715723|sedan&veh2=200759703|sedan&veh3=401679041|sedan&show=0&comparatorId=9643708

    Acura has really lost that way. they are going down the same dark scary way that Infiniti did a few years back with all the name changes. What was wrong with names like legend, integra, vigor or TL. I would even forgive then for TSX. Every new model makes you wish for the older models. Who thought the push button great selector was a good idea?

    • @AveryJH
      @AveryJH Před 7 lety +5

      You can't really knock the new infinitis with the engine overhauls, that's a massive step in the right direction

    • @reverendgreen5442
      @reverendgreen5442 Před 7 lety +2

      I agree they're somewhat boring and their motor choices are a little outdated. It makes the Honda models seem like the better choice over Acura. As far as the push button selector, it's not bad at all really. It makes the cockpit look cleaner and more spacious and it works really well. Really it takes no time to get used to using it. That 9 speed transmission is kind of a slug though.

    • @joeuncoolio
      @joeuncoolio Před 7 lety

      Yup, might as well have push buttons when you discover that all your "mechanical" shifters are actually doing is hitting a switch or a button anyway. I kind of like the paddle shifters once I am driving if I want to drop gears for any reason like long downhills or slick conditions.

  • @FamusFace
    @FamusFace Před 7 lety +7

    That video didn't say anything much about the refreshed car. Waste of time. They didn't review the new infotainment system in terms of speed and functionality, they didn't talk about possible difference between V6 and 2.4 L and ASPEC. There's an updated suspension and tuning on the ASPEC model and no discussions. Such a waste of 10 minutes

    • @SSC3034
      @SSC3034 Před 7 lety +4

      It's kind of a click bait title, but they really wanted to have a video out of the car before anyone else even if they can't really talk about it because Acura has put an embargo on driving impressions until May 18th

    I wasn't a fan of the first TLX, but the A-spec redesign & the blue color is winning me over. SH-AWD is also highly underrated vs. its competitors & a boon for snow-happy Canada. However that said, I'm slightly disappointed the A-spec doesn't get at least a ECU retune that gives it ~300hp.

  • @speedfiend925
    @speedfiend925 Před 7 lety

    Just a correction on this review. Everything I have heard about this car has been that the A-Spec model gets sportier suspension tuning in comparison to the standard TLX, so it's not just an appearance package. ;-)

  • @iamsam8446
    @iamsam8446 Před 7 lety

    Even though the A-spec trim is primarily cosmetic, it's supposed to have an updated suspension.

  • @willv88

    Acura mentioned that there are steering and suspension differences so the A-Spec really isn't just a cosmetic change.

    • @cashivan
      @cashivan Před 7 lety +4

      RevMatch nope, Lexus has been killing it with their F sport on all their models, Acura had a type s designation and just stopped using it for some reason...going back to offering Type S versions of all their cars will show that they care about performance, well in my opinion anyways

    I'm in love with that a-spec in still night pearl 😍! I personally think 290hp is plenty, people get too hung up on performance specs. The a-spec should sell for around 42k compared to the Lexus is350 f-sport which sell at around 50k. That's a pretty good savings, sure it's not as nice as the Lexus but it's still a very well equipped luxury sedan for the money.

  • @arquiraarquitectura7012

  • @Soldadummy
    @Soldadummy Před 7 lety

    I thought the Aspec had an upgraded suspension. doesn't it? Horsepower is the only measure of performance, we know this.
    That said, this car is too much of a compromise to be called a luxury car. Beat or at least match the competition.

  • @oldtwins

    Same old carried over timing belt J35 that's been around since the turn of the century. Might be a good value if they lowered the V6 SH-AWD pricing to low 30s. But not at mid 40s. The I4 version is a huge, cruel, joke too - civic cvt blows it off the road.

    • @ralphlukas9374
      @ralphlukas9374 Před 7 lety +4

      you know the j35 is constantly underrated by Honda right? Meaning dyno tests with more HP than advertised. The Honda j35 is the best V6 of all the imports

    • @reverendgreen5442
      @reverendgreen5442 Před 7 lety

      Completely agree. I drove the 2.4 ILX 8 speed and the 1.5T Civic CVT back to back and could barely tell the difference in handling, speed, and noise. And the Civic was $5k cheaper and came with a lot more tech. It's a no brainer. For the TLX it would be a hard choice because it is so much quieter and smoother than the Accord. but for the price of the 2.4 liter TLX you can get the 3.5 V6 in the Accord, just with a slightly cheaper interior and no upgraded stereo.

    What I don't understand is why go down in performance and technology. Acura had a 300hp TL and went backwards. I own a 2008 Acura Type S first owner no problems or issues daily driver, but nothing to move up to. I also own a 2016 Acura MDX thinking of trading for the Hybrid more up and SHAWD handling. Acura reliability is spot own performance and tech big let down spoken from an owner thanks TFL for the awesome reviews.
