I had a full surround theater in my last house. When I sold, the new owners offered a lot extra for me to leave everything as is. So I did. In my new house I've got a really solid 2.1 setup that I've been using for home theater. I've been impressed with how immersive it is. So much so that I currently have no plans to re-implement surround. The cost and (more significantly) effort seem high for a marginal improvement in experience. I'll likely add a second sub to smooth out bass response in my room, but after that I'll use it for a while and see if the surround bug bites me at some point in the future.

5.1 is still very immersive and enjoyable. It's better than soundbars by a mile. Having height channels and more channels on the bed layer is great and all but 5.1 is great.

Hmmm, Erin didn't say that he doesn't like Atmos, and instead (Erin like many) stated that "the hassle of getting Atmos ceiling height channels installed in his room isn't worth it"... and that I believe is a HUGE take away that most manufacturers don't address nearly enough. People would often be willing to spend the money IF the Install (and setup) were much more user friendly... and that doesn't just apply to Atmos ceiling/height speakers but all components of a full fledged Home Theater / room.
