Beau, you remind me very much of the old school journalists I worked with back in the 80's when I first graduated from Kent State and went to work at a small daily paper in NC. This was back when Ethics in reporting was a thing, a time when editorial comments went on the editorial page. This was back when journalism was about factual information. It might have only been a small town paper, but we had credibility. We reported what happened, not what we thought might have happened. Often, stories came directly from police reports and city council minutes, and facts were attributed to these sources.
All that seems to have gone out the window with the invention of the internet. It's good to know someone is out there willing to say, these are the facts, and this is my opinion, to differentiate between what's known and what's believed. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, I was getting numerous phone calls and text messages from friends and family looking to share the sparse information they had heard as well as their own personal theories. My response to each one was the same. I told them right off the bat that I had no interest in wild speculation. I shared my opinion that it would be days before anyone learned anything of substance and weeks or months before we had anything close to meaningful information about motive, responsibility or political effect. Then I went back to watching a movie.

Sadly, I stopped receiving wild political speculation months ago, when I had a friend telling me that Jack Smith was impartial to Obama because his wife donated $100.00 to Michelle Obama's Musical and should RECUSE himself... I mentioned that it was very mighty impressive mental gymnastics that he had... Some teacher made the class stand in separate areas of the room based on political affiliation. That, in and of itself, isn't good practice, as it exacerbates differences between students. In the case of this young man, it most likely led to further intensification of the bullying against him, as he was the only one to stand in the conservative corner.
I've heard no details about his relationship with his parents, particularly his father, but I strongly suspect that things were far from ideal there also. His dad being a "gun nut" and strong GOP supporter, probably wanted his son to look and be more "manly".
He may have had words with his son, that caused him to go over the edge, took one of his dad's rifles, and decided to go teach his dad a lesson about supporting the ruler of all bullies, instead of supporting his own son.
