      When I saw Antony staying narrow on Van Dijk for the press, I was ready to smack Ten Hag in the head. You've left Allison, one of the best keepers when the ball is at his feet, with two brilliant options on either flank, free. And he didn't change it either.
      First of all, Weghorst won't be in midfield. I would have played Bruno, Sabitzer (As he is more composed on the ball than Fred) and Case. With Antony, Weghorst (To provide arial problems for Van Dijk) and Rashford to exploit the space left by Trent when he pushes up. Naivete from Ten Hag. Weghorst in midfield only worked for Barcelona because of how Barça liked to play, and Liverpool are not Barcelona. He should've changed it up at half time, bringing Antony off and putting Fernandes wide to put in first time crosses to the danger area. Two easy fixes that could've corrected course for United but his stubbornness cost us. Hope he changes that mindset quickly

At 4-0 Ten Hag should have given up on the comeback and fallen back into a low block to stop the bleeding and save some dignity. Instead he subbed off his best players and conceded 3 more goals. • @opinionatortv6457
      @opinionatortv6457 Pƙed rokem +1

      @@ComradeOgilvy1984 That's the trick, don't press him. Rashford should stand a few meters away from Allison, giving him enough space to lure him into passing to either center back. Allison, seeing that his fullbacks are being marked by the wingers, will make the pass. Rashford, or whoever is playing CF, delays his press by 2 seconds allowing the center back to move a bit forward with the ball. This is where those "few meters" come in. The CF bursts, full tilt, at the CB, throwing him off. His fullback has to track back to provide a safe passing option. The winger tightly marks the fullback, while the CF cuts of a direct passing lane to the CBs. This leaves Allison as the only option. Once that back pass is made, a full field press is initiated by United's front line. This will unsettle Liverpool allowing the game to fall to transitional moments where Rashford can thrive. I thought of this in my bedroom and a manager being paid millions couldn't figure it out đŸ€ŁđŸ€Ł

      Klopp used to use a lot of pressing traps. He does that less often now, preferring to cover passing lanes with appropriately curving pressing runs. That tends to be a more energy efficient means to maintain some pressure, albeit it can be more brittle. Lots of issues, which could have been avoided. First Ten hag should have played rashford on the left given trent's defending form. Sending bruno over there limited his ability to affect the play. Casemiro was limping at the start and should have been replaced by sabitzer. Luke shaw was also in a very poor form and could have been subbed. Also the subs made no sense which is why the heavy score. Mctominay should not play in that team ever again

You need leaders on the pitch to tell everyone to CALM TF DOWN, and slow the game down, the way Real did when they were 2-0 down within 25 minutes at Anfield.

    I think what was also very important that, after the 2 goals, Liverpool remembered how good they really are, and could finally release all the pressure and depression from the past months. That made them fly, as if they were 'unlocked'. And that, in a home game with the crowd support.. from then on, they were unbeatable.

    United's approach of pressing Liverpool's defence probably helped them as it opened up gaps around the field for Liverpool to play those quick transitions into their front 3. Liverpool's functional midfield would have struggled to create against a stacked defence and we've seen how good United can be on the counter this season. Rashford would have destroyed Trent on the left whereas Bruno doesn't quite have the same direct threat and would have been better served playing in his normal number 10 position. Strange decision IMO by ETH to line up the way they did.

    Very insightful! At the same time, the video (with these particular insights) didn't need to be dragged to 10 minutes. With what was focused on, the video could have been halved to: Utd's defensive tactic was to go 1v1 but they like have an extra man at the back, which often meant that a fullback was left open and Liverpool's fullbacks are some of the best down the flanks when attacking. Once Utd started losing the 1v1 battles, they lost confidence whilst Liverpool gained it, which led to more gaps and consequently the onslaught of opportunities and goals in the second half.
    If you wanted to expand it to 10 minutes for ad revenue, it would have been interesting to know why Ten Hag didn't change the system (assuming he didn't) once they were 2-0 down and Utd hadn't had tonnes of opportunities themselves in the first half when things were closer. You could even add your ideas for what other teams have done successfully and recommended something for Utd, given your fantastic back catalogue of analysis.
    Just a thought from someone whose job this isn't and wouldn't be able to create the content you do (i.e. pinch of salt)

    If this was Ten Hag's plan, he blew it before the first whistle.
    Allison can zip an accurate 70 meter pass. VVD is accurate with both feet at 60 meters. Trent and Robbo are wingback playmatchers who are world famous for switching play. Trent's left foot has been getting better in both range and accuracy. Nunez, Salah, Gapko are the fastest front three in the PL.
    With 1 or 2 open red shirts always open somewhere on the pitch, what fool tries hard to press that and thinks he is going to get a result? Allison zipped a ball to a wide open Robertson in the 44th minute, and it was all downhill from there.
    There is a lot of wishful thinking around ManU's first half chances. The only good chance at goal in the first 35 minutes was a Liverpool cross to Nunez that was barely denied by brilliant defending. Allison would have blocked Bruno's header if it were on target. Rashford had to make an extremely difficult first touch with two giant CBs on him. ManU did not look bad in the first 35 minutes, but Liverpool was hands down better.

    I say it falls down to a bit less tactical and more on the modern football approch. You see big veteran players say "I'm so glad it didn't happen at my time." But really modern top football are way more fast paced and the differences are much more extreme given a temporary drop of form, fatigue, focus or/and mentallity. Sure you could had big results in the past as well, but it will now happen much more regularly. And it can varies for all teams as most modern top teams need to play with high risk to function in the top league.
