    thanks for this video.... I am trying volleyball dad to serious sport video shooter with the ability to shoot some stills as well. I was wondering if this camera would be a good first step? I am just getting started and I'm ashamed to say I have canon rebel t 7 i think😓 I have a couple EF lenses. So I was thinking of getting the R7 and a 70-200 as that is big when it comes to sports and the adapter so I still have the option to use my current glass... Do you think this may be a good strategy for someone new to the game?

      Hey Kyle! Thanks for joining the conversation and I’m glad this video help a little bit!
      There is nothing to be ashamed of with your camera set up! Anyone that takes pictures and actively tries to improve them is a photographer, be that on a cell phone, a Canon R7, or any other incredible tool we have at our disposal!
      That said, it does sound like the Canon R7 would be a tool that would go well with types of images/videos you’re trying to make. It inherits some autofocus capabilities from the R3 that I think you’ll find very useful when shooting sports!
      If you’ve already got a few ef lenses I think it makes perfect sense to stick with those and adapt them to the R7. The ef lenses have an incredible history of capturing images!
      Thanks again for the comment and let me know if you have any other questions!

    Appreciate your through overview. I purchased the R7 but always fall back to my R6 for most of my content. I need the expanded recording time. I am pretty inefficient when I video. So yes I go over and I overheat. I pair the work down in post. You inspired me to get to know my R7 better. I really is a great value.

      I had a similar view of the R7 and had largely dismissed it when it was release because it wasn't full-frame. I'm glad I went back and gaave it a second chance though because it fits in to my workflow really well! (Even if I do miss full-frame sensors from time to time! Lol!)

    I love my R7... even thinking about picking up a second one for times where I need to video cameras. I have two R5s, but with the 30 minute recording limit they are not optimal.

      I find myself loving my R7 as well! As hard as I try to not like it, it always works and it never slows me down. So it's really grown on me!

    Love the content! Solution to the ISO not having a dedicated wheel, you can program it to the control ring on the new RF lenses!

    • @TroyMairs
      @TroyMairs  Před rokem

      That’s a great solution! I had disabled the control ring on my RF lenses quite some time ago (when I got the original EOS R) and I kind of forgot about it!
      I might have to go in and give that another shot!
      Have you been regularly using the control rings?
      Thanks for joining the conversation Chris!

    Great video Troy! Love the R7, we just need some more RF-S lenses. Hoping for an RF-S alternative to the Sigma 18-35 1.8

    • @TroyMairs

      Thanks James, I appreciate you saying that!
      I had kind of written of the RF-S line in my mind for some reason, but a lens like that would really worth while! I assumed the RF-S line would subpar, but they could do something pretty neat with it! Fingers crossed!

      Use RF lenses. Don't wait for RF-S, they won't be the best quality anyway...

    • @TroyMairs
      @TroyMairs  Před rokem

      I lean towards agreeing with you, but there really is no reason they have to be poor quality! Super 35 lenses are much “simpler” from a physics perspective to get a super high quality image out of than trying to cover a full-frame sensor. So Canon could (and likely will) take that and make the cheapest lenses possible for the line up. BUT, what if they took this and made a super35 set of cine lenses? That’d be worth taking a closer look at!

    Hey, sir, thanks for this awesome video. Everything looks fantastic, and you deserve a lot more recognition (you gained one sub).
    Would you suggest the R7 to a small creator currently using 80D and iPhone 14 Pro and, before that, had a t3i, or would you rather say I should get into the Sony system with an Fx30?

    • @TroyMairs
      @TroyMairs  Před rokem +1

      Much appreciated! Thank you for the kind words and I'm pumped to have you here!
      Great question, the good news is that you truly can't go wrong with either decision so you're in a good position! I'm currently shooting within the Canon lineup of camera, so I might be a bit biased. I've used the R7 as a BCam to my C70 for some time now, and truthfully I never want to like it. BUT it always proves me wrong, it always works and never slows me down. So... it's growing on me! Lol
      That said, the Sony system is a great series of cameras, I;m just not familiar with them enough to give you a well informed opinion. Thanks for commenting!
