55 Chevy Gasser Gets a Gnarly Big Block! Drive line Swap - 1 Guy 1 Weekend

- Two years ago when I was originally putting my 55 Chevy together I had a 454 freshly built for it. Unfortunately the time line of the car being finished happened sooner than the motor being completed. So instead of waiting I bought a bone stock motor from a 1 ton truck, slapped on the tunnel ram and stuffed it in the car. It worked fine last summer but the other motor has been sitting in the garage taunting me. It was finally time to motor swap the 454 between the rails. While I was at it I decided to upgrade the transmission (a rebuilt TH400 with a high stall and shift kit).
There were a few hiccups along the way but I managed to get the drive line swapped and broken in over the weekend. This new motor sure sounds good! and boy does it like to rev. This car is really going to liven up when it hits the street again.

Had 'everything' for my new 5.0 Mustang motor. Trickflow heads, polished Saleen upper intake manifold, ported Holley Systemaxx lower intake, Crane gold aluminum rockers, new pushrods, etc, etc. .......everything....except a weird thread pitch pipe plug for the Saleen manifold. A day later and multiple trips to multiple parts stores I finally found what I needed at a plumbing supply shop.
Nothing like the sound of a healthy big block!! I always look forward to your next video. Keep up the great work.👌👍✌
Thanks man!
I love going back in time. You knocked a lot s$%t out in the past 6 months. You guys rock keep it simple like your doing thats the secret. Proud to be a DD Fan.!!!!!!
Love watching , I'm 66 been messing with these old rods for years. I have a 52 Crosley wagon with a speedway drop axle and a small block Chevy. My best advice is keep the ones you really like because I Have let to many slide through my fingers when someone offered enough money. Keep up the good work!
Yeah i know the feeling. Hard to keep em all though
Sounds great ! Can't wait to see a long smokey burnout !
Same
I have a licence plate frame for you ride. Just don't know were to send it.
Sounds awesome, can't wait for the burnout video!! 👍
I'm sure itll happen at some point
Good use of the weekend! sounds sweet👌
Big blocks rule! In the words of cleetus,
HELL YEAH BROTHER! 🧨put the excess wood chips in pails for floor dry, oh and you should make 600 hp with dual quads tuned.
Maybe! She sure is snappy
@@DDSpeedShop I would bet on it.
The grind is real , but so worth it Dan . Keep up the great work . Cheers
Thanks buddy
Hey Dan. You should get Flip-Flops like Dannie. Ha-Ha-. You sure got a lot done in one weekend. But then it helps when you know what you are doing. Heck, I didn't even know what you were talking about when you were describing the components you had on the shelf. Now you can use those wood chips to clean up all that oil. And Man she sounds sweet. I don't blame you for being stoked. It is looking fantastic. Thanks again.👍👍
Haha I dont wanna steal Dannies thunder. She likes her foot flare.
I have always loved fender well headers
Same i love em
Good job man, killer old 55 ya have there.
I think the teeth-rattling is part of the fun!
Haha yeah
Looks great. It's amazing you do most of the work by yourself.
I think I would have gone with the rubber engine mounts tho. Those solid ones are gonna shake your teeth out. 😆
Haha yeah. Never said I was smart
Cam sounds good, that thing should be a blast to drive now.
Yeah itll be wild.
All that saw dust will soak up all that transmission fluid just perfect! Things happen for a reason!
yeah throw all the wood chips on the tranny fluid good idea.
Haha I knew I'd make a mess so I chopped down the trees ahead of time
DD Speed Shop if you ever find some cheap bags of mortar or cement it soaks up oil awesome.
Alfredo Dirks was thinking the same thing I was, you have tons of oil dry with all those wood chips.
We use the dollar store kitty litter for spillage! Not as fast as the real oil dry, but a whole lot cheaper!! Good job, that would take us a month!!
She sounds good. Great job and Another great video 👍👍🇨🇱
You are "The Man" I'm 77 and love what and how you do things. My last project was in 2005 a 67 Camaro with a 427 BB Tri Power. That car was an animal. I can't get enough of your work. PS: On the engine mounts bite the bullet get a set of Polyurethane mounts. I tore new rubber one's on first start up and abuse. The solid ones will take all the fun out of the ride and the Polys get the job done without failure. Just Saying!
Sounds good Dan your almost ready for a cold snack and a burn out can't wait.
Yes and yes
I am glad you are wearing your "safety" flip flaps. Thank you for the video sir.
Yeah hate for Dan to "flop" over.. lolol
Oh f.. haha😲
Safety sandals. Just wait till u see me weld in them haha
The Blacktop 55 lives again, right on...

These are VERY cool license plates on the 55! "Make it three yards, mother-effer, and we'll have us an automobile race."

OL YEL SOUNDS GREAT !!! THANKS!
5/16 brake line makes nice transmission lines and no rubber hose and clamps to blow. Always fun to watch, love your energy!
Thanks man!
The 400 will impress you, every one I've had run super strong!

Damn Gretta is pissed!!!! You can use the tree stump chips to absorb the trans fluid. Sounds healthy Brother nice job!!!
Haha exactly. I'm recycling the wood chips

You just sleep faster than most people. Hotter than HELL here in Minnesota-mostly the sun but the whole city on fire helps.
