I drive a 1998 k1500 with the Vortec 350. I love my truck just a super fun truck to drive everyday. I get about 16 to 17 mpg with it. Fun truck and good times. Good that your dad helped you get it done.
Work well done, it was fun seeing you Work on your Chevy, congratulations
I use to do it just like that brother. I started doing motor and transmission together bolted up placed in . Then tcase last . Worked better for me
Seems to be that easiest way to do it for a 4 wheel drive application. There was no way that we could see the whole drive train being supported on the cherry picker we got and it would be such a pain to swing that whole thing in the engine bay with how long it all is.
Check out my channel at Mudd Dawg Customs .I built a swing arm off the center post of my shed to hang a chainfall.
Everyone dogs them swirlport heads but they have great torque and the burnout looked great.
just passing through but wanted to say that truck looks like a good candidate for restoration and honestly i think thats the way to go with it
doesnt look like it needs a whole lot of new parts just some cleaning a paint job and a dash pad
Numbers matching lol, look at the truck.... pieces of dis pieces of dat. That's what makes gm products great. Cool truck for sure my man, nice job on the swap 👍
Pretty sure Johnny Cash wrote a song about this truck… or maybe it was a Cadillac 😂😂
I have to pull the motor out of mines good imfo 😊
As far as paint do what one guy did around me. He had a square body Suburban and he rattle can painted it in several shades of flat and primer colors and it looked like it was camouflaged. He ended up using it for his hunting truck.
Not a bad idea but I’d really like to restore the truck one day. For now I think we are going to leave it the way it is. The truck is just super recognizable as that clapped out pile and I kinda like it that way.
@@BoneyardRevivals As long as it has a coat of paint on it and it doesn't rust out. It doesn't matter what color it is or even if the paint all matches. A little patina is a healthy thing. Not to mention you almost can't kill those Chevrolet small blocks.
It’s nice at its current state because I am not too worried about scratches. If ya make it too nice I’d be afraid to drive it or recycle tires!
Nice find that 350 for $500. I hope you eventually put the original NM back in. Nice impersonation of Derek VGG thruout the vid.
For 500$ it was definitely a score. And yes I am a huge fan of Derek, it might show it bit too much! 🤣 And yes that numbers matching 350 will one day go back in it as a 383 stroker along with a 700r4 since that is what it came from the factory with.
Nice truck! I own an 85 2wd long bed with a 305. I love driving it, and I plan to drop a 400 in it.
They are definitely fun trucks to drive. And I bet you will be really happy with a healthy 400 in that!
I have a 388 sbc. If something ever goes wrong. Imma do a 6.0 LS
Hey man. Seen you guys with Mopar Al at Power Tour. I'm in.
Awesome! Appreciate it.
I just put a 383 stroker in mine. Swapped out the good ol 350.
I’ll eventually get around to rebuilding the original 350 out of this truck to a nice 383 and put it back in but for now this 355 will do just fine.
@@BoneyardRevivals seems to be doing good.
It was my first swap I ever done. We'll see how it holds up. Its a new crate engine from blueprint.
Nice! Honestly with the price increases on parts it’s almost more affordable to just buy a crate engine anymore. But I am not smart enough to do that. 😂
FINALLY! Someone putting a SBC back into an old Chev rather than a LS.
We are old school around here and love the old small blocks. I like the LS but everyone else is swapping them into everything, it gets old quick.
@@BoneyardRevivals sbc with aluminum heads and some cool valve covers looks way better than an ls
with my 600 watt surround sound and powered sub.......i would turn up enough to hear you talk.......then the music would shoot my cat across the room.......................
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Note made, I’ll work on the audio in the future.
Hows the brawler doin? Would you recommend it? I am thinking about the edlebrock avs2 but im open to other options
@@8luggarage I’d choose the Brawler hands down. If your not afraid to grab a screw driver and tune it, the Brawler in my opinion will far out preform the Edelbrock
Do you have a welded diff or limited slip I’m debating welding mine
Neither, it’s an open 3.23. And it surprisingly spun both.
Used crossmember to come out the truck
Is that your dad and little brother? If so, it's so cool you guys are doing that together!
Yea that’s them in the flesh, we ain’t got no paid actors here. 🤣
@@BoneyardRevivals not yet but you keep make entertaining content and you'll be there in no time! 😂 But really stick with it and hopefully CZcams turns into a career for you like VGG
That’s the goal. I’ve actually meet Derek. He’s one hell of a guy that does a lot for the community. Definitely a big influence to me personally.
What did you do for the kick down on the trans?
When the Turbo 400 was in the truck I never had a kick down. I would always manually down shift it. There is a 700r4 in the truck now with a TV cable.
Did you have to change the flex plate or did it bolt up
We used the same one
How do you like the turbo 400 compared to the 700r4??
In stock form I’d take the turbo 400 all day. As far as a built trans I do really love the 700r4 for long highway trips. This truck gets better fuel mileage with the 700r4 that’s in it now.
For me it depends on the application. For a driver that will see a lot of highway mileage a built 700r4 is solid, for a 4x4 off road or tow rig, I’d have to say the Turbo 400.
Is carburetor better than throttle body fuel injection???
It changes the drivability for sure especially in the winter and colder months, however I think swapping to carb is way better for performance oriented builds. (Which is what this engine is) It’s hard to get performance from a throttle body because you have to change chips in the ecu to accept a bigger cam and a few other things. Normal fuel injection like on the LS engines are more refined and have a lot of aftermarket support. Overall they are amazing.
But when it comes to the TBI system, they are not really great in my opinion. It was GMs way in the late 80s to say hey we have fuel injection like all other manufacturers but in all reality it was a carb with two riky dink injectors on it. Good for the winter time and reasonably reliable but other wise a joke (in my opinion of course)
What radiator did you use ?
Initially when we put the truck together in this video i used whatever one was in the truck when I got it. That was 2 years ago. About a year later I switched it out for a 4 core rad out of a 6.2 diesel truck which was a year ago.
I just bought a 1983 3/4 Chevy CK -20 truck the only thing I am not sure of someone put a 1972 Z-28 Camero motor and transmission in it so is it possible for this motor and transmission to pull this truck.
I wouldn’t see why not. Everything is gunna depend on the engine build and the converter in the trans along with your rear gearing. If they all play along together nicely it will probably run just fine.
@@BoneyardRevivals Well there is only one problem the older motor and transmission doesn't meet EPA Standards for 1983 you can modify a vehicle going forward but not backwards that doesn't meet EPA Standards for that year model which is against the law.
@@DanielSloan-bp4su If your exhaust has a catalytic converter and meets the emissions requirements then you should be fine. In some states if you register your vehicle for classic or vintage tags it becomes emissions exempt.
@@BoneyardRevivals The original motor had pollution devices for it in 1983 in 1972 there was no pollution devices on a 1972 Z-28 Camaro motor and transmission this motor doesn't have enough power to pull a 1983 Chevy 3/4 truck how many times did you see someone pulling anything with a 1972 Z-28 Camaro motor you don't put a car motor in a truck this truck had a 350 big block with a turbo 400 transmission because it was built to pull heavy loads.
Nothing good is easy an nothing easy is worth a fuk.. ✌️
Disappointing? That's a nice engine, i need an engine bad for my 81 an i wood knot use it to do burn outs in lol..
I thought 3500 bored over 30 is a 383?
@@tavarisphillips8987 Nope a 383 can be 30 over but it has more to do with the crank than it does the bore size
Just needs a paint job or a vinyl wrap
Or… hear me out… it’s prefect the way it is. 🤣
The real plan is to one day do a frame up resto on her. It’s just hasn’t happened yet. And I don’t want to rattle can it so multi colored she’ll stay.
Ok 250 hp
It’s not new just new to you
Be yourself don’t try and be like vice grip garage..
Obviously I am a huge fan of Derek and what he does. It’s not that I am trying to directly copy someone else but I do take a lot of inspiration from him. There are a lot of similarities because of that inspiration but I am not trying to be a duplicate of him.
Great video of the drive train swap. You should put super quiet exhaust on it so it will fool everyone on the road🙂🙃
@@robbiewallace2754 🤣🤣🤣 but loud pipes save lives and assert dominance. Haha
