Japanese Players Will Parry Everything in Street Fighter 6

- In the past, the Japanese and Asian scenes have been far ahead of the rest of the world in terms of controller optimization. This is what sparked the whole hitbox = "cheatbox" debate last year. With the upcoming release of Street Fighter 6, they are once again ahead of the game with leverless controllers. Because of how important drive impact and parry are going to be, the physical location of the buttons on your controller could mean everything. Nephew explains all of this in detail and a possible workaround in this video.
Street Fighter 6, the next game in the iconic series, will release in 2023! Take part in the Fighting Ground, which focuses on the classic fighting game experience with modes from previous games in the series. Two new modes will be available alongside: World Tour, an immersive single-player story experience, and Battle Hub, which will further expand the scope of player communication and engagement. Your Moment. Your Fight.

Another thing you can try is instead of having the parry and drive impact as the right-most two buttons (L1 and L2), set them as the left-most 2 non -direction buttons (square and X).
Slide the rest of the buttons to the right, and now you can just play normally but with quicker pointer finger access to parry and DI
This is what i was thinking recently. Gonna see how both feel as i didn't think of nephews layout.
that is the exact layout that I thought of back when I started playing streetfighter five, I’m not really sure why it isn’t more common
It's what I'm using in 6,works like a charm
great idea, i'm gonna try it, thanks!
similar to what chris schmidt did in marvel. very clever idea.
I think moving one button from the 4th column to the thumb is just smart. I always felt that the 4th column is less accessible with your weak pinky and i press these buttons less as a result.
I come from tekken, we only use 4 buttons lol
@@kickass2733 That's because Tekken doesn't have Light, Medium, Heavy version of attacks. Right?
@@metricrl_correct it has
left punch right punch
left kick right kick
I've been training myself to be able to hit the buttons on the right with my ring finger. It's insane how weak your pinky finger is.
Yo! Thanks for explaining this, Neph. I was confused as hell when I saw the pic of his layout. Guess it's time to whip out the hole saw and dive into the old box o' buttons.
Cool that you came up with new "tech" pre release LOL. Very smart to utilize the input priority system to keep your right hand available for everything. Personally, I'm a sanwa lever/6 button layout boomer so I'll be fine just using my middle finger for MP+MK and ring finger for HP+HK. Been doing the same thing for the universal actions in SF3/4/5 and I'll just boomer it up more lol.
mp+mk sure with the thumb but hp+hk is so awkward
I did the same thing when I first got to play 6, so we're gonna have to split royalties on the layout patent. the default layout immediately felt backwards to me in regards to those two buttons when I first played, to the point I thought my controller was configured wrong until I realized it was supposed to be like that.
literally same lol
Genius. I will be using the Nephew tech from here on out. Thanks man.
Clever! Definitely doing this. Just got a 400 dollar custom hitbox and seeing the extra button controllers gives me a lot of buyer's remorse. This will do the trick for a while!
at least urs isnt hideous
Keyboard players watching people catching up
Yup it's actually hilarious I remember being made fun of by my friends back in the day for playing on keyboard.. look at the FGC now 😂
The keyboard issue is simply not viable at tournaments because you can’t simply connect them to consoles.
I think it's great that the system is not only flexible but that also works really well on a pad, which is how 99% of players will be playing even if almost none of the pros are.
Menard plays pad tho and he's the goat
Based on the recent tournament majors, pad was pretty much the dominant hardware with leverless behind it. I think pad will easily be the counter to any leverless nonsense because of price and availability.
@@originalscreenname44 The problem is that the pad wears out very quickly and, in the long run, is more expensive.
Punk plays pad also. Controllers aren’t magically going to make you better. No matter how expensive it is or the amount of buttons it has. I got a Kitsune a few weeks ago; and I love it in SF6, but I also play MK1 and I will NEVER be able to not play on pad in that game. Fucking dedicated block button lol
Having a 10 button layout using a fight pad will be really useful
smart. I was parrying with both mediums & wasn't using the parry button at all because of its location. the Nephew layout seems like a great fix!
That sounds like you're a noob. The traditional location is completely fine.
The JP player controllers reminds me of my Frame1, which has a remappable right thumb cluster for smash. It's very useful to have action buttons spread out among all of your fingers.
Respect the Nephewtech.
I simply moved my punches and kicks over to the right one, and then moved the final column inputs to the front set of buttons. That means drive impact and drive parry are accessible with my pointer finger and thumb
I did same thing on guilty gear strive XD
I think this is the correct answer.
I'll definitely be giving this a try. I think at some point i will either mod my hitbox or build a new enclosure for it though, I always like more buttons.
What's the name of the controller
Ty for the new Nephew tech
The super customizable control layouts along with modern controls is gonna go crazy
I switched parry and DI on my stick the moment I started playing the beta. Mostly because of drive rush.
That is a crazy twitter tag that was trending in USA @5:32
Hey Nephew. Thanks for the videos! Where can I get a hitbox like yours? I think you should do a video on it and why you like it over the other hit boxes out there.
Been using this layout, nephew tech.
What ive been thinking is chaning the buttons orders to H L M Parry so that you can have your index and thumb always on both heavy p and k (which will give you DI) and your pinky stays on parry. Should be very easy to move your thumb over to grab too. Ive never had a hitbox tho but I ordered one recently. Ill try it out once I get it.
Thanks for the great idea that switching DI and Parry buttons, very helpful!
For the longest time I thought some of these innovative controllers were cool, but lately I've been thinking all of these 11 button boxes are getting really ugly
I actually already do this by putting parry and drive impact of the left hand side of the fight stick and hitting them with my thumb. I've basically been doing similar stuff to this since Strive came out.
I've wanted extra thumb keys on my hitbox for years (kind of crazy that there is one button shared by both thumbs when on pad you usually have four buttons your thumb is comfortably responsible for)! I do hope people start selling those sweet looking leverless controllers over here just for the sake of being able to actually use my thumbs when I play games
All of those changes to the button box layout are nice for offline tournaments, but for the game itself, pad is best. In particular, the Flydigi Apex 2 with smart use of reWASD PC software is the way to go. You can disable the up and down d-pad buttons and do them from some of the back buttons instead, giving yourself most of the button box advantages such as precise diagonals, motion input shortcuts, and up + down = up SOCD cleaning. And since it's a pad with a ton of buttons, you can fit all 13 buttons for Modern controls without having to do any combination inputs (6 face buttons, 1 Menu / Start button, and 6 shoulder buttons). You also have two sticks which are useful for the 3D areas. You can do stuff like put L3 run on the edge of the left stick, so you can easily run in 3D areas. Push the stick a small or medium amount to walk or jog.
You can use reWASD's shift feature to easily and quickly use all 15 or so of the training mode shortcuts. You hold one button down, and it will change the function of 15 buttons, making it possible.
There will be times when you need to switch to Classic to test something, but you can configure reWASD to swap to your Classic profile easily, along with re-enabling the full d-pad if you want it. The Apex 2 + reWASD combo is so good that the idea of playing on PS5 without it is revolting.
thank you for your comment
yep. I changed parry to top right during the closed beta. feels way better for me.
thank you neph i just bought a fightbox b1 mini and was trying to figure out what optimal mapping would be for this same layout! Are you playing on classic or modern?
I had the nephew layout since day one of the demo. I honestly thought it was default and had to check.
Nephew tech + D-Brake would be perfect
nephew tech came thru ngl I was only using 6 buttons LMAO
great video, though I feel kinda robbed by your patent because I was using that button layout since I first touched the demo. if you think about it, it's basically the same thing a lot of people were using for SF5 with those buttons being used for VS and VT.
your hitbox looks super slick! where's that bad boy from?
If having more than 8 non-directional buttons that all have unique functions isn’t already illegal then what is capcom even doing
I don’t think having a standardized layout is necessary though
Also, there's the layout daigo uses with the parry button on the left of the left direction button to hit with the pinky. maybe parry with the thumb is easier, idk. Gladly, I use a custom all button controller so I can try out any layout :D
This is some interesting tech! Gonna have to come up with a catchy name for it though... I wonder who thought this up first? 🤔
5:08 What are the plugs covering the buttons you don't use called? Trying to see where I can buy some.
I was considering swapping drive impact or parry and up on leverless
Nephew tech is actually amazing
One of the first things I changed cause I have that button mapped to dash in GGST, but I’ll let you claim the tech, mister pro champ of intel tourney, lol. Yea it’s so key to have access to parry and meter build in SF6.
Ironically I've been using the same layout, but I started doing it in Soul Calibur V (which does allow the same button to be bound to different buttons). It was much easier sliding my thumb up then across for Siegfried's iAGA. You can easily just drill a new hole through your top plate to do so, that's what I did years ago.
Reading the FINE print with the cheatbox lol
I would believe Gachikun personally drilled these 3 extra holes on the plate...there is a video on his channel...lol
Lol "nephew tech", 100 percent can't wait for Justin Wong to use that sentence 😂
To be honest i have similiar set up on my keyboard since beta " movements on wasd - di on space - parry on right ctrl - 6 action buttons on ins del -> page up down buttons - also i can set up x2 punch kicks for specific characters like kimberly's tiger knee air throw on arrow keys D: it's so fast and easy to use those short cuts . As you see i switch to keyboard just because of this , because after socd changes there is no reason to play on another leverless control to me , i believe that will be standart for every game sooner or later so it's better adept earlier.
THANKS NEPHEW
What stick is nephew showing us in the beginning of the video, not gachikuns but his black one?
My fingers are always glued to L1 & L2 on pad, I feel for the first time pad players have more advantages than stick/hitbox. Feels real fluid for me and precise. I have a battlebeaver controller with mouse click buttons too.
Do you have the battlebeaver dpad replacement too? How do the buttons compare to stock?
@@CutShadows honestly, I’ve been switching back and forth between ps5 and battlebeaver, came to the conclusion that mouse click dpad isn’t 100% accurate sometimes the input will drag or you’ll forget to take your finger off and it’ll click twice and give the wrong input. After finally breaking in my ps5 controller (building the callus on my finger) I think it’s the perfect pad for fighting games. Sf6 seems to have been made with pad in mind, having a single button for drive impact and parry are ideal. I switched L1 and L2 so I party with L1 and L2 is drive impact. If you’re still keen on split dpad, don’t go for mouse click, split buttons are great, but the clicky buttons are much better for triggers or your other buttons. I use the split dpad especially when playing charge characters. Hope this helped 👌🏻
I moved my DI button above right arrow and DP above LP. And throw button between the right arrow and jump button. If I play classic or modern those buttons will remain the same. For modern all punch buttons become attack buttons and kick buttons become auto, special and super. The reason I moved the 4th column is because my pinky is just way too slow.
my man went stright for that capcom 11 attacking button limit lol
Anyone else remember the first time Nephew patented this controller config? I think it was like this video ago.
Where did you get such a thin hit box controller? Can you please link me? I have a hit box and it’s so uncomfortable because it’s thick
wait. so what about using a keyboard?. they let you map everyting ou want. whay would leverless be banned if more butons than a sp5 controler?
Exactly, my logic also same. Unless they want to ban keyboard, which is default controller of PC, then they cant ban those leverless.
My issue is I frequently accidentally press the pinky buttons so I unmapped those. I just rely on pressing the combinations. How much did I gimp myself?
Wow that nephew tech is genius. Thank god I don't have to buy another Hitbox (or parry box?)
Is mapping DI to the touch pad on the dual sense tournament legal? I recently did this and I'm loving it. Much easier
I never understood why the flatboxes copyed the right hand button layout verbatim.
Even back when i played arcade, I always hated having to slide my hand to hit the 3rd or 4th row (depending on the board) or use my pinky.
Imo the action buttons should be alliegned vertically in two rows, so you have the whole width of your hand to hit all the buttons without sliding or wiggling your hand in weird positions.
As soon as I saw how often you would need to DI and parry I knew people would start macroing their buttons and drilling holes/changing button layouts on their sticks lol. I know Tokido was experimenting with this in SF5 with I believe Boxer with the TAP button, but I think the last time you REALLY saw this level of macroing was SF4 when people would macro the select button to get select button plinks for 1f links with LP, this was especially crucial for characters like Ibuki where to get those jab tsurugi loops you would need to do very tight 1f links with stand jab. I think there was that marvel 3 player who played C Viper that had his stick banned for macroing multiple directions to a button to get perfect tiger knees. Funny enough he could use a Crossup now and get similar results.
I'm still going to be doing the plain old method of pressing 2 buttons because I'm a stubborn old man, until I feel it's absolutely necessary to change. My hands are hovering over all 6 buttons all the time and I constantly shift my hands around where generally I get button combinations quickly.
I have the same hitbox as you and I also swapped the DI and parry buttons same as you did around the time the game came out :) I did not know about the button priority though. We going 50/50 on that patent? ;)
What hitbox is it exactly? I need one
I had a feeling setting parry to one button would be ideal.😂
Correct me if I'm wrong as I don't have a PS5, but doesn't the new PS5 controller have 4 additional buttons underneath it anyway?
What's the leverless controller he is using as an example?
I'd like to know this as well
Any updates?
what switch button do you use in your hitbox Nephew ?
I need to make more holes 🌝
Switching from arcade stick (sf4 , skipped sf5) to controller pad. Easier to be consistent especially when you visit friends place. still can’t figure out what is the best setting for pads. Standard classic setup makes it tricky, missing out on all 3 P and all 3 K, for certain characters. Currently using triangle + r1 , circle r2 for OD , which may not be consistent. Arcade is a lot easier, but big learning curve. Any recommendations?
Im switching from controller to hitbox style, im prepared to get whooped for a liittle
I basically play like this on my keyboard, the buttons are smaller so i slam my finger to press 2 buttons
So what I'm hearing as an analog stick player is left stick click = parry and right stick click = drive impact.
Your leverless controller is fire! How much did you pay for it? I have a hitbox but the small buttons annoy me.
I will remember the Nephewtech
yo what's your take on 24mm vs 30mm action buttons?
What leverless controller is he using? Keen to learn more about it. Thanks
*What's the model of this controller? Manufacturer? More info?*
Bruh wtf is going on with that hashtag... nevermind I don't wanna know. Good video!
There's no way they ban these controllers, if they did, they'd have to ban pad, and making only 1 layout for leverless would be dumb, because of people like alex myers and ultra david, who play on weird leverless controllers for ergonomic and hand pain reasons.
where can we get one of these leverless extra button controllers?
Your are the man and the first to put us on to this .. im gonna drill a hole and mod that button today lol 😆
Thank you Nephew
There's parries now? This reminds me of SF3 all over again. Can't wait to get the game.
I already do this with the Hori Octa, you can map two buttons to the l1 and l2
Okay this video made me realize that I hold my fight stick weird because I always have my pinky over both parry AND drive impact... Does anyone else hold their stick like this?
So with the button setup of
1 2 3 4
5 6 7 8
I press buttons 1, 2, and 3 with my index, middle, and ring fingers.
I press 5, 6, and 7 with my thumb (reaching under my palm like I'm doing crossovers on a piano).
I press 4 with my pinkie, and I press 8 with the heel of my palm. Kind of like, the meat underneath my lowest pinkie joint.
People have said I have really fast parries playing the SF6 demo, and I never considered that most people are moving their hands to access the lower row of buttons. I just play like this naturally and never realized it was odd.
You can totally access this tech without any special equipment or button mapping. You just have to be a little weirdo.
Thats how I play except I press 8 with my pinky too
The nephew tech will rain supreme!!!!!!! Just wait it's only a matter of time before they make everything even by setting a specific layout, because they can't have people be at a disadvantage in a tournament setting, and this definitely gives a big enough advantage to warrant such changes.
what is the lever less controller that nephew has in this video
I’m doing an additional hole to my leverless controller right now
What's the leverless controller he's using?
what controller does nephew use?
So much things to optimize
This game is going to be insane when people get good and even crazier when dlc brings back more monsters 😂
Capcom can't ban the leverless layout, even banning extra buttons is hard because Dualsense pro has extra L3 and R3 at the bottom
To be fair, upgrading a stick only costs a few dollars per button. You just add a button and daisy chain it. Doesnt require any PCB mods or anything like that. Just the cost of a new button.
I'm using my pinky for Parry because drive rush , I'm okay with slamming my face against both heavy punches for drive impact
i've always preferred thumb over pinky, i play on the rightmost buttons
What the hell is ln your trending tab my guy 💀💀💀
Been using that same config on my b0xx that I had from playing melee.
We had too much access to SF6 before launch. The fiends have figured out waaaaay too much
For the past 10 years we have moved towards what is basically a keyboard-styled controller with a Spacebar button. It is funny considering that 10 years ago FG players said that keyboard is bad and stick is the norm
Yep. We just didn't know due to most keyboards not having sufficient n-key rollover, plus the fact we didn't consider space bar for up.
Plus the fact you can't really double tap on keyboard buttons. The 6 or 8 large buttons on the right help with input consistency.
@@Un1234l you absolutelly can double tap keyboard buttons, wdym?
@@Nobody-su9km
How are you double tapping keyboard buttons? Do we even have the same definition of double tapping? Using two fingers to quickly tap the same button rapidly.
Can someone tell me the name of the upgraded control so I can purchase it?
5:10 damn that thing looks clean
Need a perfect parry tutorial 😊
Pad players mostly use Drive Parry and DI com Triangle+Circle and R1+R2 or L1/L2 shortcutes?
6:05 goddamn it!
