  • Jalen Rose explains that Dennis Rodman's claim on First Take that Michael Jordan would average 50 points in the current era of the NBA is not too far off because MJ would make more free throws since the league is less physical today.

But by the 4th quarter, the Warriors would be spent. people tend to forget that Jordan would switch over to a strong scorer if it wasn't Jordan's natural defense opponent but that guy needed locking down. Using the triangle they'd abuse Steph so much when he was on D he'd have nothing left for the end of the game. There wasn't a need for load management. And then we should remember that Michael would psychologically brow beat the entire Warriors team while dropping 60, daring KD to keep up, and having them fall into his trap. I was born in 1970. I grew up watching the greats in the 80s and 90s. Rodman is completely right on all of his takes. If the Bulls team from the 90s played now, they would be totally dominate. I don't think Golden State could make it a 5 game series. I am saying this and I was not a Bulls fan. I saw MJ and the Bulls take apart my team the Knicks with my favorite player Patrick Ewing multiple times. These kids that play now in the NBA don't know what fouls are. I really doubt most of them could handle the rough play that happened in the 80s and 90s. Go back and watch footage of the great series between the Celtics and Pistons, or the Bulls and Pistons and you will see rough play.

This is what people these days talking about the NBA and players don't understand. Jordan is the single reason why many many teams never won. There were so many teams....Jazz, Knicks, Portland, Pistons, Lakers, Cavs, Suns, Hawks, Pacers, Magic, etc., etc., etc.. All of those teams had phenomenal players and all of them just couldn't compete with Jordan and his team. Jordan was clutch. They wanted a win...Jordan pretty much could win the game for them. He could guarantee the win.

But that's just it though. People are assuming even though the 3 shot is attempted more, that Jordan would just continue shooting mid range and layups. Its pretty much impossible to know exactly what kind of shot selection Jordan would have in this era NBA. He would either have to attempt more 3 point shots which will change his shooting percentage because he will sacrifice some of his 2 point attempts for 3's, or he would have to shoot more volume 2's to make up for the lack of 3 pointers. The in game flow would also change depending on how the leads change or what kind of runs are performed. Basically what I'm saying is something in his game would have to change in order for him to adapt to this era's gamestyle.
An example is From March 3rd of 2019. Thats when Lebron James passed MJ in points. The only reason that happened is because of the 3 point attemtps by Lebron James.
Lebron accumulated 27,120 pts from 2's and Freethrows
Jordan accumulated 46,830 points off of 2's and Freethrows.
So obviously Jordan whould along the way have to change his game to keep up with the scoring in this era, so that will change his efficiency in either a posotive or negative way. But nobody knows how his game would change. Therefore its pointless to compare era's. Too many viariables to take into consideration and one variable changes the other.

@@mazengwe28 - The biggest dif between today and the 90s is PACE. I've seen no articles showing "points per possession" (per trip down the floor) have dramatically changed. The myth is any belief tht teams r just better scorers today... The truth is teams move faster.
The 90s was a slower pace... Spurs/Pistons dominated early 2000s was the slowest... And even tho Steve Nash era Suns seemed fast ("8 sec or less") in tht era... They would b bottom 10% of teams today... Which is mind boggling.
Its a faster game... Big guys r smaller and fewer in number... Paint is more open... Perhaps Jordan shoots more 3s... Perhaps he using all those extra possessions to punch on more fools... More often... More often... With more free throws. Perhaps his 50% (guards in the 90s werent all shooting tht high)... Perhaps he shoots 56% in this era...

@Darial Fasenntao The only rule changes the league made was the flagrant foul and that had nothing to do with protecting certain players. It was about business. Fans pay to see stars, you can´t ask fans to pay full tickets to see Jordan vs Thomas and 2 minutes into the game Mahorn takes out Jordan and 2:30 into the game Cartwright takes out Thomas. You can´t ask viewers to give up their weekend morning or afternoon to see Charles Oakley vs Horace Grant. By the same token you can´t ask networks to pay top dollar for the rights to broadcast your product when the guys who actually drive ratings get taken out a few minutes into the game. The NBA changes based on viewership and revenue. I guarantee you that in the next 3 to 4 years if we keep seeing the game move away from the basket, pretty much making anyone over 6´7 obsolete they´ll change the illegal offense rule to stop teams from going 4 out 1 in. That rule was also changed after the league say the way Chicago used Jordan early on. Couldn´t have 4 guys on the weakside of the floor.
