  • Swamp walking through Bradwell Bay was one of my toughest hiking days so far. waist deep water while your leg is knee deep in mud. Made it through safe.

    The spider web and the hollow tree was awesome. That swamp was ridiculous! Happy Hiking PT!

    Swamps are places to be leaving, not entering :) Here's to some dry hiking! :)

      I, too, mourn the loss of your video footage of those days. If you ever decide to come back and re-do video from that segment, give me a ring and I'll be sure to drive down and give you magic everyday

    after watching today - and absolutely hating hiking with wet feet - I give you props for getting thru. especially when you thought it was good and had to do that last bit. great job keeping your motivation.

      You have to come to the realization that your feet will be wet almost everyday. That seems to help. I just try to avoid end of the day wet feet.

    1:55 ...Morning *SILK BLAZING* is not fun !!
    3:40...Hahaha..May the Force be with you , younge padewan
    3:57...Double Blaze - Two blazes, one above the other is an indication of an imminent turn or intersection in the trail. Offset double blazes, called *Garveys* , indicate the direction of the turn by the offset of the top blaze.
    6:50.. *Bushwhacking:* To travel through an area here no path or markers exists; such as through the woods. Most of the time this requires clearing your own path (usually with a machete or other instrument). Usually used to create a shortcut to another trail.
    7:19 Mood Swing Trail = one part of trail is dry , and next it is wet…one part is no trail and another part is Blazed up nice. lol

    PT - have you ever been tempted to walk in stocking foot fishing waders? Some FT sections seem to be more water than hard ground.

    • @probationtermination
      @probationtermination  Před 2 lety

      Too bulky and cumbersome to carry, just for the sections of swamp. Which sometimes you never know they are coming.

    The first few times I hiked through a swamp, I actually lost my shoes.

    Congrats on getting through Bradwell...it's all downhill from there...well, you do have the highest point on the trail to get over :) but you know what I mean. Videos just don't do Bradwell justice probably because in the worst parts everyone puts the camera away and have to focus on just staying upright. Worst 4.6 miles I believe I've ever hiked.

      I had to put my phone in my fanny pack and wrap it around my neck to keep it dry!

    Man.. I would like to attempt this but I’m legit too scared. What happens when a cotton mouth bites you when you’re in the middle of Bradwell Bay? Any bear signs or sightings?

    • @probationtermination
      @probationtermination  Před rokem

      No bears, lots of tracks.. snakes and gators are not really a problem. Just steer clear of them.

  • @melissaderekdepot7115

    I have heard that section is one of the toughest of the Trails. In your opinion, Was Bradwell Bay or Big Cypress harder for wading?

    • @probationtermination
      @probationtermination  Před 2 lety +1

      Bradwell bay is tougher by far. It is only about 4 miles total, where the tough part of Big Cypress is about 13 miles. Bradwell is unmaintained and it is tough to navigate, blazes are very hard to find, and it can get very confusing. Water and mud got almost chest deep on me at times. I would NOT recommend it for an inexperienced hiker, and I wouldn't attempt it later in the day. Make sure you have enough sunlight to get through it completely or you may be in trouble.

      @melissaderekdepot7115 Před 2 lety

      @@probationtermination I imagine it just be so hard for volunteers to go out there to maintain the trail when it is chest deep in most areas. Probably not many access roads either. Thanks for the info

    My man, what percentage of the time on this trail are your feet wet? It just seems like a heavy toll. I guess you get used to it.

    • @probationtermination
      @probationtermination  Před 2 lety

      Almost every day. It's a lucky day when your feet don't get wet.... Or your road walking all day.

      @ScottKent Před 2 lety

      You'll find gators along the coast and near the edges of swamps like Bradwell, but the water levels inside that area are too inconsistent and gators don't have an escape to deeper water. Snakes on the other hand...
