    Hi;
    You sure have a lot of tools in a small area. i was also lucky to upgrade to a 8" Grizzly jointer a couple years and added a Byrd head on it. If you go to a 3 Hp dust collector, please go with the metal pass thought blast gates. The plastic one's get dust in the bottom and then the gate don't close all the way. This is something I learned the hard way.
    I ran into the same problem that you are having with 220 volt machines. I got tired of moving heavy cords and added 4- 220 volt outlets, but in your shop I think you could get by with one on each side or your shop. I also put a sub panel in the shop so if I killed a circuit I did not have to go in the house. I understand all these upgrades cost money.
    On your little A C does it have a filter and how hard is to to change or clean? The fine dust in the shop gets in everything.
    Have Fun in your shop

  • @crossgrainwoodproductsltd9230

    You have a Rigid isolating sander and a drum sander. Why not setup the extra table saw with stacked dado blades? I would think that would be handier than another type of sander. Just curious no judgment. The 6''jointer could find you a nice 3hp dust collector. The jointer looks new and Powermatic power tools has a great resale value. That actually would buy you the dust collector, pipes and accessories for it. Nove layout too!

    • @GarageWoodworks
      @GarageWoodworks  Před 4 lety

      I've thought about doing that before, unfortunately the fence and rail system for that saw are not very accurate. And aligning the fence is undone when it is re-positioned. I also don't have an outfeed table for the saw which would take up too much room for my already overcrowded shop. The sanding disc seems to be the most appropriate tool to use in that saw. I appreciate your question.

    Great video! I wish I had the extra space. Please forgive me as my mind is spinning in a 'wish list' if you will. It is definitely giving me some ideas for a future shop of my own if I can build one. If you do go to sell the 6" jointer, swap the 8" jointer to that location. Allows you to access the other side of the outfeed/assembly table. Could even drop the router table on the table saw extension wing since that side opens up for you. Then would suggest switching location of bandsaw and router table. That way you can rip with the bandsaw across the width of the shop.

  • @heystarfish100
    @heystarfish100 Před 5 lety

    I would suggest moving that lumber storage unit to an outside shed if possible. It’s really hogging a lot of valuable wall space needed for a dust collector. Those extra machines I bet really hurt and that outfeed table needs a rethinking. In a one man shop such as yours, upgrading the 220v circuits could be one dedicated to a dust collector and the second have multiple taps to feed each machine. Unplugging and replugging is a hassle you can do without as your never going to be running more than one machine and the dust collector at the same time.

    • @GarageWoodworks
      @GarageWoodworks  Před 5 lety

      Not a bad idea moving the lumber storage outside. I'd have to build something to store it.

    I have always been envious of your tool collection. I am very surprised at your minimal dust collection. I also have a dust deputy hooked up to a Shop-Vac but find even my cheep Harbor fright DC hooked up to a supper dust deputy to be far superior. Especially when using my 6 inch belt sander. Certainly something I find invaluable with my thicknesser and jointer. I must say I have a basement shop and find dust wandering upstairs is an issue, so DC is a big thing for me.

    I feel you pain with the patches you have created for dust collection, I am in a smaller setting and have to move hoses for connection. IMO, time is money and with the amount of work that you do you should invest in the expense and time to install a proper vent/vac system along with protection of your health....enjoy your channel...ATB

    @bargainboondocker3420 Před 6 lety

    I was wondering if you ran the dust collection from the drum sander so that it exited horizontally, instead of where it goes up vertically, if that would help. Then you wouldn't be trying to lift the sawdust so high but just move it sideways. Just a thought.

  • @jbb5470
    @jbb5470 Před 6 lety

    Thanks for the tour. A few questions I had is regarding dust. Does dust migrate into your home? How do you control dust in the air? Another thought, I too work in out 2 car garage. I purchased a 1.5 hp Laguna dust collector which I connect to each tool individually when in use. I have a Laguna 17" band saw, 3 hp Sawstop table saw, Dewalt 13" planer or my router table. I roll it around to each tool as I use them. I have not been happy with this size of dust collector. Just my two cents but if you are in the market for one my research / recommendation would be to look into one that is at least 3 hp. I am saving for this size and will replace my 1.5 hp as soon as I can. Thanks again for your video.

      My goal this summer is to try and prevent most dust from getting airborne. Dust does make into the entry way of the house but it's dust that comes in from my shoes.

    Nicely done, Brian. Always like to see other peoples shops. Good luck with dust collection from your bandsaw. I have lots of suction in a 6" hard-piped DC that splits into two 4" flex hoses that attach to the 4" upper and lower ports of my 19" bandsaw, and I get maybe 50% of the dust. On my 14" I get maybe 20% of the dust. Might as well not have them hooked up :-( And one suggestion for a 2-car garage shop that worked well for me: I replaced my 13" portable planer and 6" jointer with a Jet combo jointer-planer with helical head, saves a ton of floor space and having a 12" jointer is almost life-changing! And the helical head is much quieter than straight knives. How did you get wood species all mixed up on your storage racks? I thought you used cherry, cherry, cherry...jk :-)
